New S+C Coach

i think you missed my point.. im just saying not to get the hopes up in regards to that. tbh, most of our first grade injuries haven't been due to S&C but mainly bad luck. im not too sure about the lower grade injuries though and since smith wants to overhaul the entire system- it could work wonders. however, if bad luck persists, then i hope we dont get a 'sack keegan smith' thread going on.

Injuries are one part….It's the chicken(no pun intended) and the egg...If your fitter stronger better trained etc it reduces the risk of bad luck injuries that we've had for what the past 3 years....

I understand what you're saying but i dont think you understand where I'm coming from. So I'll leave it at this lol.

I get where you are coming from. S & C is only an adjunct. A well conditioned athlete will not beat a less well conditioned athlete if the lesser conditioned athlete is better.

S & C is no panacea. Injuries will occur. Having the best players helps the most assuming that drugs are not an option which I assume they aren't.

In top level sports that statement re less conditioned more talented is proven incorrect more often than not.I reckon I could beat Usain Bolt in the 100 metre sprint! If his condition blew out to 600 pounds.

Jerry and stevetiger, both your points are valid, howeverS&C is just as important as other factors in League…eg pre game there is a lot of muscle work, massaging, taping etc to support injuries such as knees, anckles wrists etc..
Post game Recovery is very important eg.icing old injuries as well as new injuries etc...
The examples I have given are only few as there are many other things that need attention of the S&C staff...
A very important part is rehabilitation, what treatments are required to overcome certain injuries and how long to keep up the treatment..
As you can see I have only touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to S&C and how they work, this is why you really require a person who knows what they are doing and I think Keegan fills that position quite well..We will wait and see how he performs during the next few months..

Most injuries are caused through contact etc that is fact ,but a large proportion of injuries are caused by the mind ..If the athlete is in a negative environment and his mind is encompassed in negativity for some reason the body is more at risk of injury. With the appointment of Smith the one thing that stood out for me was his emphasise on new philosophies and the mind! This type of thinking can be pretty much exemplified by teams that have very few injuries through out the season ..I take Manly for example the previous few years there was an aura of positiveness and hardly any injuries ,this season there has been turmoil within the club and player ranks .. look at the injuries as the season progressed and in the end they were busted may be a coincidence? Souths this year every player was available for the Grand Final coincidence ? Yes injuries occur but I think next season the Tigers might get a break as I get the feeling that positivity will be the catch cry of the new era If Smith has anything to do with it! 😛ray:

Lol. I am sure you are right Jerry. I am also sure our boys will learn a lot and are in good hands with this wonderfully sculptured hunk of a man

Probably teach them a thing or two on and off the field.

Hmmm…so being a wonderfully sculptured hunk of a man equates to being able to teach people things. Huh? Can you explain the connection, please?

Are you serious? Just having a bit of fun LCA

LCA,Tigermama and Jerry are praising his professional credentials as an S & C person ,as well as his good looks….

With a twist of humour.....  :sign:

Thanks TT  Spot on!

If anything it shows that the new board is willing to address issues head on. Every Tigers fan could list numerous things that the club has consistently overlooked for years on end. We now have people making change where it's needed.

I just hope his father does not become involved with West Tigers. The mid season review was bad enough.

I suppose the question that begs to be asked is why we didn't do what we are now doing last season , 2010 or at any stage in the past

Everyone has known about the issues for many seasons ( sorry Brian , we didn't need your report ) and it wasn't an issue before ??

I certainly wasnt a huge fan of Brian Smith the coach despite the fact he took 3 different teams to Grand Finals. If he'd just won some grand Finals he would probably be remembered as a super coach given the fact he'd coached 604 first grade games.I just remember his last year at Parra in 2006 where he seemed to lose the plot with positional changes ala sheens despite the year before in 2005 :sign: when they were favorites to win the title up until the cowboys upset them the week before the grand final. He then took a Roosters outfit to the Grand Final in 2010  the guy is so maligned considering the amount of "success" he has had.Never won a title but anyone that can take Parramatta or St George to Grand finals is a miracle worker considering there choke efforts the last 20 years. Now for Brian Smith the Brain and what he brings to the table is very encouraging. He knows league inside out and what structure is needed to create a successful club.He also seems to have done very well as a father considering the impressive story of his son, also his younger brother played in a first grade grand final(which Brian coached) and his brother was also coach of Great Britain. While his other son was coach of Tonga.Love him or hate him the Smith clan of which Brian is Patriarch know rugby league especially behind the scenes type of stuff such as player welfare/support and the right coaching and training environment. We have sown the seeds of success which will harvest net year and the crops will only get better as the years roll on.As fans we just need to all get on board with it and enjoy a new direction that with it comes a much smoother ride.If the NRL was a plane the Wests tigers have just been upgraded from economy to first class. :sign: :sign:

I think the answer is that there were those within the club that tried to hold onto the old boys club in the hope they could remain the Balmain Tigers or something other than the mighty Wests Tigers.Steve It has taken 15 long years but FINALLY sanity has prevailed. :sign: :sign: Out with the fossils and in with the more talented types with Wests Tigers best interest at heart.
