News.com.au - NRL Summer Patrol for season 2011

Its a "thumbs up/thumbs down" look at each team summed up in a sentence -

TIGERS -

Thumbs up - Benji Marshall (above). When
fit and confident, anything can
happen. He needs a strong, robust
forward pack to dominate. He has that.

Thumbs down - The same side as last season. They
didn’t win it then, why would they
in 2011? Halfback still a position of
deep concern

Meh, a real nothing statement either way IMHO.

St george had the same side, Manly when they won the comp, Melbourne, Brisbane the list goes on.
Halfback is of no concern. For the first time since Prince left we have 2 rock solid options at halfback.
I'm confident Lui or Moltzen will get the job done in 2010

Rubbish thumbs down comment by Ritchie.

1) We have 2 better options at halfback than most of the sides in the NRL
2) and we missed the GF by 1 point with 4 first string players out (Payten, Moltz, Tui & McKinnon) and Fifita, Dwyer, Murdoch & Lui all pretty much rookies.

WT recruitment should be applauded for the way they have set us up leading into 2011.

Thumbs down comments to me mean that Bulldog has no other intelligent reason to add. He does forget the knees to the ribs Lote copped that should have been awarded a penalty with in goal kicking range that would have won us the game. I think Bulldog should have written….. Thumbs Down - I can't see any thumbs down for this team this year.

Could you post the thumbs up/down for other clubs as well??

Its a dodgily formatted PDF file on the news.com.au site - so when i tried to c/p it, it all came out very dodgy.

here is the link though:

Ritchie claims that Parra "still have a quality side" in the thumbs up!! And he doesn't question their halves (Mortimer, Robson) in the thumbs down department! What a crock - they have had a crap team for two seasons (despite Hayne's 2009 heroics) - that has only got worse with the loss of Keating, Mateo, Inu, Grothe & Tahu!!

For Canberra he rates them as "the best crop of youngsters in the game" - but for thumbs down he notes "rookies don't win comps"! He fails to mention that Campese is due to miss 80% of the season!

For the Bulldogs his thumbs down is "Can Trent Hodkinson make this side his own after Brett Kimmorley's departure?" Failing to note that Kimmorley's so-called ownership of the team took them to the bottom of the NRL in 2010 - and that Hodkinson is just a rookie who was not even the chief playmaker for an under-performing Manly last year!

He does question Manly's halves with Daly Cherry-Evans yet to debut - but ignores the likes of the Sharks lack of halves - instead saying they have "insufficient depth" - which is far from acknowledging that they simply do not possess a top-grade quality halfback!

Comparing our halves to these five alone - I fail to see how no. 7 is a "deep concern" for the Tigers!

Same old standard comment from the so called experts dude… surprised he didn't pull out the small forwards opinion haha

His comments are designed to get people talking…saw this in the paper today at work, a space filler nothing more

Hard to disagree, sensationalism sells papers. It's more comical than anything else.

Thnx Underdog

The one about Broncos makes me laugh, the forward pack: umm Hannant, Tronc, Parker, Thaiday.. are you srs??

PS never knew Beau Champion signed with the Storm!!

he can write what-ever he wants.
its a shame there is not a coaches - v- media- "friendly" footy game before the season starts.
would be fun to see, with Tim Sheens & Steve Folkes giving him a good solid two person tackle.

Hannant Parker & Thaiday are all pretty good forwards, dunno what youre reading but nothing about them in the article

I believe he is referring to the fact that Ritchie rates their back-line but claims it could be wasted behind a struggling forward pack!

"Can the Broncos muscle up and be dominant? Many say no. No use having a quality backline if the forwards get swamped."

TP - is noting the quality foundation of their pack has not been fairly considered - (add T'eo, Gillett, McCullough, McGuire, Glenn, Kenny and they are far from the ligh-weights the Tele predicts)!

It says for thumbs down: "…No use having a quality backline if your forwards gets swamped"

So he is basically criticsing the Broncos forwards which has the above mentioned people in it.

Pardon? 😕

Sorry young t_pz!

My query was based on whether I was correct in presuming that your references to Hannant etc - were made to prove that the Tele's Dean Ritchie **was just plain wrong in his lowly assessment of the Broncos forward pack**???

Was I wrong in that presumption???

You should certainly realise that you suggested - (by citing Hannant, Thaiday & Parker) - that the Broncs have a quality pack - (as ignored by 'bulldog') when it was alleged that their "quality/class" backline might be left left posted!!!

If you couldn't keep up with my previous posts - the above paragraphs (+ your HSC) may be seriously diffcult!

Good luck anyway!!!

 have you been on the Red …..RED...

What's this thread about ....the Broncos...who cares about them apart from how many free lunches the get off WATTO.... :unamused:

Any Wests Tiger news in the article if not it's fish n chip paper.. 😕
