Next seasons prospects

Will next season be any better than this one ? All clubs around us on the ladder are bolstering there squads with pretty good talent so where does this leave the Tigers . I am starting to think even with the younger guys getting a bit more expieriance the fact that the club has not gone into the market place does not make for a very positive outcome.
There are a few of the older types that really another season will see them offer a lot less, looking into the lower grades there is a bit of talent but untried the ones tried have struggled to perform to NRL levels.
I believe a strong centre and another back rower at least with a proven NRL record needs to be added for next year at the least, next season at this stage does not look that great especially the way the team is performing at the moment ,defence has improved but that is
Relevant to to whom the team is playing as the better sides seem to have no trouble scoring points.
So should we all be excited about next season or will a bottom 4 side be the outcome!

We've done nothing but head south for years….you can only get as bad as.last...no worsen.

I can only see minimal improvement

If the WTs want to be competitive in 2016,then good recruitment is imperative…myself I'm a bit sick of hearing the young talent coming up is our future,as I said way back earlier..all we do is develope and give players experience in NRL so as for others to poach them or we get rid of players that we don't want...

Bodene playing fantastic for the Warriors ..
Austin in unbelievable form for raiders...
Blair,Bennetts go to man....

these are quotes made by the league commentators and I'm inclined to believe them.all the players mentioned are having a stellar season elsewhere....so what is our problem at the club, maybe this is why MAYER got the arse and the board are starting to realise that we must look outside the square and start recruiting to the benefit of the younger guys coming through..otherwise we will always be at the bottom of the ladder and we could lose good young players to the opposition where they eventually shine, albeit I love that we have a great junior base eg,as far as the hype on Brooks,he was good against Souths,he was ordinary against Manly..this is precisely our problem..we put them on a peddlestool and they are great as kids against kids, against men it's a different thing..we need experienced NRL players in key positions to give the team balance,at the moment our balance favours the opposition...until these things change then the next few years will be like 2015..... :brick:

After JT arrived it was said that there would be no significant player signings until 2017 due to previous mismanagement of the salary cap, I believe that Balmain are due to repay their loan to NRL in March 2016 or forfeit joint ownership of WT (correct me if I am wrong on the date) , if they forfeit, the NRL has 3\. votes on the board Wests have 2, what happens then with an under performing club with limited income and player purchasing ability - relocation?

Good Post TT
I was disappointed listening to JT and it all sounded like Waffle, I know I'm not his greatest fan, but it all sounds like excuses, in reality. What seems to be happening is the same as ever, even in Sheens day , He would get the team up for a big game in defence and attack every now and again but it never lasted we would pretty soon drop back to letting the opposition stroll over our line as we are still doing
After the euphoria of last week it still appears there's been a lot of talk but not much substance behind it
Still we can all hope.

Of the young guys, the one who is gradually starting to impress me is Lovett,
He seems to be on a gradual path upward. Could be an assett next year along with Lodge

What is new - nothing.

We are only half way through this season - lets get through this one first. Far too early imo to be talking about next year. As rex2ce said above with 3 NRL and 2 wests board members, we could be in Perth as the Ironmongers next year or the year after and we won't have to worry about it.

I am placing more importance on what is happening this year. I still see a lot of positives, most of the young blokes are coming on (don't agree with Lovett), agree we need a couple of experienced players for next year (as we know there isn't any coin - end of thought), Rocks and diamonds will continue - that is the way it is going to be.

Why do we keep rehashing the same threads all the time.

I get the frustration, the dissatisfaction, the dislike for JT and certain players - how about we have a permanent "Frustration" thread where everyone so disposed can dump their crap and then for anyone not interested in that they can read all the other threads. Next years problems solved straight away.

Russ,if your happy for the club to relocate..that's fine..

If your happy not to recruit some class NRL players that's fine..

If you want a team to under achieve week to week ,that's fine…

And if somebody else wants to give their opinion on next year ,that is also fine....remember we all have our opinion while we respect others...l

You have missed the point TT.

I'm saying - too early to discuss this.

I'm saying who knows the outcome of the board and what the 3 NRL members are going to do - it is out of our hands and I am not going to worry about unless relocation is a reality. No point talking about it until then.

I'm also saying we need experienced players - we have no money so why talk about it now. let's talk about it when we do.

I'm saying let's get behind we have now and hope its a Diamond game next week.

Everybody has opinions and they are welcome to express them on the Forum - yes.

I just don't get flogging and regurgitating the same old stuff under different thread titles. Comments with respect to all posters.

I'm not sure the answer is going to the market to buy players. Next year we will have at least 6 NRL standard backrowers (Lawrence, Sirro, Sue, Lovett, Santi, Taupau) with a few pushing up (Lamar, Fine).

Hooker is covered if we extend Cheerington.

Props are a bit thin (Woods, Lodge, Ava, Sue) but would be covered if we resigned Galloway.

We have a hole in the centres/winger atm with 4 first grade quality covering 3 position (Simona, Kev, Nofo, Richards).

Halves are a bit thin. But do you really want to spend big money on a backup?

Looks to me to buy anyone decent we would have to let both Galloway and Richards and Moltzen go. So the question is, would we be prepared to weaken two positions (prop and wing) to strengthen centre? Depends on who is available and at what price, not sure there is anyone who fits the bill (Fonau the Melb bloke, Morgan or Whare).

I'm not a big fan of buying players or maybe better put thinking that is the answer. I think our squad isn't that bad. Get a quick outside back and move Richards on and that would probably be enough.

We all knew this year would be difficult but the future does look good. I would much rather be in our position with young players emerging to fill our vacancies than going into the market to pay big dollars for players such as Maloney, Hodgkinson or even Lewis Brown. Cherrington has seamlessly slotted into the NRL team and yesterday we witnessed young Woods and Martin play outstanding debut games for the NSW Cup team. The radio commentators were in doubt that both are NRL players.

Ink your post makes me :bawling because it's so true. 😢

I think we can forget about going into the player market for improvement. Firstly, who is out there who would be better than we already have and would want to come to us? Secondly, by letting players go, we have only brought our salary cap back to a manageable state, so we don't have the money for star players anyway. We all need to take heed of what Taylor has said; no significant signings before 2017.

As for next season's prospects, we will see gradual improvements from our youngsters but their form will be a bit inconsistent until they have about 50 NRL games under the belt. Meanwhile as fans, our job is to get behind them and having our support will provide a mental boost for them through some tough times.

Its all about cap management

Yes its important to have a good junior base but it is also necessary to bring players in from the outside

They bring different ideas from different clubs which is also important

You won't keep every talented junior you have , look at what's about to happen with Te Maire and in the past Fifita

You just have to hope you keep the best that suit the club the best in the long run
