Nick D'Arcy risks passport ban by filing for bankruptcy

Nice to see Darcy keeping a clean nose along with his BSing mate Monk

Hope they kick both off the team for London

Most everyone I know who has been to Vegas and even Hawaii has pictures of themselves with guns etc. It is no big deal at all. They were engaging in a legal, supervised activity and have done nothing wrong

Honestly speaking,

I hope they use this, and I hope they both break world records, and spring major upsets in their respective categories, Hauling in Gold medal after Gold medal so we then get to watch the media force themselves to verbally fellate the pair of them, and backpedal on all the nonsense over the last couple of years.

That would be awesome.

Not sure about the first sentence - I've never thought about going near a gun when I've been in Vegas but I take your point with the rest of your post. Personally I think the bloke (D'arcy) is a bully and comes across as arrogant, surly, and obnoxious but the coverage of this photo is an over-reaction. If Nick D'arcy wasn't involved it would haven't got the run it did.

Firstly , there's no way his bankruptcy trustee would stop him travelling to the Olympics and no way England would bar him from coming into the country.
Secondly , the media uproar over the photo of him and Monk posing for a silly photo is a joke.
The biggest clown is the guy quoted from Gun Control Australia, John Crook , (no - I've never heard of him before , either) who gets dragged out to say the guns they are holding are the same used in mass murders - like they would have known that?
He was also quoted as say "This is a new low for athletes"
If two young guys taking a silly picture that doesn't hurt anyone is the WORSE thing any athlete has ever done then it makes you wonder what he thinks about drug cheats , women bashers and worse.
Finally , they had the hide to headline the story with "Idiot swimmers"
The only idiots were the journalist who wrote it , the editor who decided to run it and the idiot from Gun Control Australia who contributed his inane comments.

Well said cktiger. There is only one extra thing I would like to add…....

His girlfriend is HOT!

How does such a d$%# of a bloke seem to have so many things go right for him? Was he overseas on a personal trip? If so how considering he is bankrupt? He smashed a guy in the face and ruined his career - if he paid for it by getting a loan and paying Cowley the money then well and good and let him compete.

But he didn't, he filed for bankruptcy and deflected his responsibility and for that he shouldn't be rewarded. But the photo itself is an absolute storm in a tea cup!

There was a phenomenal article about NicK D'arcy in the Good Weekend. It wasn't sensationalist, but he didn't come out of it looking particularly good etiher. As put by Kerian Perkins in the article, there was never any contrition, never and acknowledgment that he did anythign wrong…not how shitty is it that I did an awful thing and now somebody's face has caved in, but how shitty is it that I don't get to go the olympics.

Interesting comments by Geoff Huegill also. Huegill seems like a fairly affable guy and has a fantastic reputation. I'd think if you can't get along with him, you're doing something wrong.

But then again, if Kul says you're a top bloke...well.

If the picture was of Magnusson or any other of the swimming golden boys in this country nobody would say a word.

But Magnusson or other Olympic athletes would not be stupid enough to post this photo on social media sites!!

Seriously these 2 guys should be doing eveytthing possible to stay out of the headlines after the issues they have had in the past. Personally I think there is nothing wrong with the photo but why would you give the media the chance to bag you.

It was a good article. Bottom line, even with we accept that ND is a top bloke and SC is a douche, it's hardly grounds for doing that sort of damage to someone and compounding it by refusing to show an ounce of contrition over the whole thing.

Agrree…good post.
Nothing photo....but I wont be cheering for him.
Karma always comes around.

This article made me so happy this morning.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/london-olympics/aoc-to-punish-darcy-and-monk-by-sending-them-home-after-their-olympic-events/story-fncv3huf-1226389860530

Leave the two blokes alone. They're still young adults in their 20s who were participating in a legal, safe, social activity when having probably their last amount of down time before the most important point in their life. I think the media and society sometimes forget these athletes are people too.

Media overhype at it's best.

I think this is absurd.

Why

The guy beat the crap out of someone whether he was provoked or not Unacceptable

After losing his court case , he then after some time then announces he is bankrupt which should prevent him getting a passport , but also prevents him from paying his court punishment for his improper actions

If this was you or I we wouldn't be able to get a passport , watch Border Security and see these people get sent home for similiar reasons that D'arcy get a passport

Then he shows no class again by standing there like a wannabe gangsta on his social website page

People this stupid don't deserve this many chances

Lets use a comparison for an Olympic swimmer Dawn Fraser . Dawn's career was ended for something nowhere near as embarassing or as bad as what D'arcy did

He shows no TRUE remorse for any of his actions .

I don't condone violence , but I would love the chance to put him in the same position he put Cowley

I mean the crap about the gun photos. The rest I'm not gonna comment on but the deal made about the gun photos is just ludicrous, especially in light of the bonding session at the rifle range Swimming Australia put on.

Yeah I have to agree with this. It seems like a massive over-reaction - one suspects the media have just been waiting for the change to have a crack of ND and this was their big moment.

The real question here is how someone with a criminal conviction and a 14 month gaol sentence, suspended reliant on good behaviour, is selected by Swimming Australia, has that selection endorsed by the AOC and is off to London to represent his country?

Some people here need to have a good long read of the judgement

That would be awesome.

D'arcy is up against Michael Phelps in his pet event

Good luck with that thought

What's he going to do , pick a fight with Phelps when he loses (This isn't a joke either , this nutter could do anything)

You have to earn the right to represent our great nation UD

Both in and out of the pool

This is something unusual also

Bloke is told not to break his social media ban and return home directly after the Olympics so what does he go and do :brick:

Breaks his social media ban and goes on holidays on a luxury yacht (pretty handy for a bloke who is bankrupt ) in Croatia

To his parents (and each to their own ) If this was me and my parents and I owed $180 k they would have me working three jobs to pay it off

He has no respect for anyone (and that goes for us to , the taxpayers who paid his way to the Olympics ) and believes he is a higher than the rules

To put it mildly , in my opinion you are scum and should never be allowed to disgrace our great nation EVER again
