NO Drama

As an old magpie supporter I have to have a giggle about all this sniping going on on this forum. It is pretty evident most of the posters were not around pre - 1999\. Back then wests were winning 4 games a season and balmain about 6 a year. Now we are sitting equal 8th in round 18 and the world is at an end after 7 wins. Not saying we should settle for mediocrity but at least we have a team that could win on any given Sunday. All is not lost keep the faith.

My workmate used to go on & on & on about Doug Rawlings every monday, used to give me the shits

Thing is no internet back then but lots of beer and the topic from poor footy would often change very quickly

It's the circumstances surrounding the club, at the moment, that are causing the real concern, Ed, not so much where we sit on the ladder. Also, this team is way more talented than our old Magpie teams of the late 1990s, hence, much more is expected of them. We were only 1 point away from the Grand Final last year and were primed to go well this year, but it's all turned to crap - on and off the field. This is why everyone is so concerned on here and rightly so, I reckon.

Some great memories Ed. I remember going to Campbelltown Sports Stadium every week and watching the maggies get flogged, but out of blind loyalty and a love of beer, kept going on the off chance that we might jag a win.

Mind you, I'd take those bunch of battlers over some of these blokes we have masquarading as footy players. I'm not sure how Tommy would react to Twitface, youspace, blogbook etc

The difference is in those years we found it hard to compete because of money issues but these days we are in a much better situation. We should be going alot better.

Most people are more worried about the club than our current form.

Weve already lost 8, with more to follow apparently. On top of that there are pesistant rumors about our best wanting to walk as well.

LOL blogbook.

Yeah, the thing is when we were really really crap, those rare upset wins were oh sooo sweet.

I guess its a positive that its been quite a while since a win has felt like that, always expect a win these days as opposed to blind, 1000/1 hope back then

You are right about the upset wins being sooo sweet Ink, I remember going to watch the maggies play manly at campbelltown, the maggies were written off by all and sundry, when they got up and won it was unreal, Bozo Fulton was the coach, he couldn't get out of the ground quick enough, sweet memories.

Wests were always a club that relied on its junior base (with the exception of the 50's and 60's). Given the reliance, there were always periods when the junior base was not at its strongest and spoons were the norm. Although every now and then a crop came through that made the finals and threatened a premiership.

The same thing is occurring now with the Wests Tigers, the only difference being that we don't win spoons. It all comes back to your expectations as a fan.

Touche,I guess we now expect more.

And the Andrew Willis field goal on the coldest Monday night ever was a great memory.

Reschs certainly dates you.You had to have a cast iron gut to enjoy a reschs. But each to their own.

Silver Bullet is a good drop. Nothing wrong at all with that.
Dirty Annie (Reschs DA for the youngens) on the other hand….not so great.

But
All beer is good; just that some is better than others!

Yeh pilsener was good, I still r emember the old DA cans with the pic of the harbour bradge on em, was everywhere in my neigbours yard as a kid

When you talk in those terms lads, todays problems see a far cry from those days. Yeah the odd time we used to win geez it was great ….... particularly the one against St.George at Lidcombe in '85 when Lee Crooks kicked that goal from half way after Gary Warnacke potted a field goal to put us in front 13-12\. To this day that rates as the greatest upset of all time for me.

It would be nice to see some of that spirit come back into the Wests Tigers again. I know its been one of those years when it started off badly with the Benji problem then continued on with so many injuries and now players been shown the door ........ its not too late to turn it all around though. Just need a bit of that old battler spirit to come back.
