Nofa needs to stay on his wing in defense

Jam in…yeah Nofoaluma should stay on the touchline..then there would only be a 18m gap between him and Kevvy..I'm sure teams wont be able to exploit that at all...

It starts in the middle...

He's 20m off his wing, and there's always 2 players on his outside. He's clueless. We're the 2 try's from kicks Naiqamas fault? Widdop and Nightingale said after the game they studied video all week and they knew "Nofoaluma likes to jam in". EVERY TEAM KNOWS IT EXCEPT US

It's not just his fault but he is the no 1 problem. He is so good in attack that the fans don't want to state how bad he is defensively. You have to keep him but he needs to be given clear rules about coming in. I also think the forwards we have on this edge are consistently not up to it.

If you guys understand footy it's not Nofo, the only thing he is crap at is high bombs that go his way.
We don't slide in defence and that is our major problem if Nofo stays on his wing? There would be a hole the size of a bus length. Alot of the times Naiqama rushes in and unfortunately Nofo has to follow his inside Man.

You know footy…

By the time the Bronco's clash comes around Ivan will have this team humming...best 800 bucks we will ever spend...

forevertiger, You are so right, and the Coach says easy to fix.Cleary might not sign with us after seeing that performance.

Cleary won't have to sign with us, Webster has the answer. It's now an easy fix, Couldnt do it over the off season, didn't see it from last years highlights, I'm sure the players he coached previously are fantastic defenders so it's just an easy fix. I was happy to give him latitude but that comment annoyed me.

Not really

I don't think Ivan will drastically change how we play but I think it's more the effort and pride on the Jersey that is none existent and that is what bothers fans, hopefully that is where Ivan can start the focus.
1/2 to 3/4 of our team aren't up for 1st Grade footy.

Ive watched this game again and very closely the right edge tries and we just arent numbering up and indeed it starts from the forwards…...is Teddy not telling the forwards to move right, cos numbers form on the right hand side and they arent coming over.....Moses jams in cos its a 5 on three,Kevvie the same and Nofa looks like a nutter cos he is flying in off his wing and letting in tries.

I dunno whats going on but the pigs have to move where the numbers are.And help that right edge out.

The problem with the right hand side D is there is no trust with each guy inside them and that comes from the middle 3rd in D inside our 20..

I agree. Nofo stays on the wing they score inside every time because the inside defence strategies are either wrong, or not properly executed.

Surely Nofa has a voice. He should stay wide and be screaming at Kevvie and Moses to move out.they probably would ignore him, but he's at least staying on his player. Even if they move out, they'll probably still be scored on anyway.
Doesn't anyone talk to each other in the team
I've been saying for more than two years that it's suicidal to try and hide 2 defensive liabilities, in the one team, meaning the halves, but we have 4 serious defensive disasters in our team and 3 of them are on our right side.
More than one has to go NOW! Shouldn't the alarms have been ringing for some of our coaching staff when they took over the team. Over two years ago !!!!

Nofa , at least has an upside with his attack, but needs lots of work on defence, but Moses amd Kevvie have very little to make up for their terrible defence

Get rid of Kevvie, as well as Moses and his inflated opinion of his worth .
Keep Brooks as he's at least got some speed, get someone to work on his defence with him like Matt Johns.
Chase an experienced 5/8\. ( doesn't have to be the most expensive, but someone who doesn't think that defence is the thing that's built around the house).
And put Nofa on notice regarding his defence
Having someone at 5/8 who has a clue about where to be in defence should help Nofa's defence as well
We need to cut our losses on Moses.
That would still leave us with two problems, but with one of the 5/8 being a better defender, and with a centre who isn't just a speed bump. Along with some specialist coaching for Brooks and Nofa
The sign above our backline saying"SCORE HERE"just might be removed

stop talking sense geo, im pretty sure anytime theres a two man overlapo its always the wingers fault, its not like he just followed his inside man infield like all wingers are told to do form under 8s

The fact the our line doesn't slide means that Nofo has to jam in and attempt to close the play before it gets to the wing, unfortunately it means they just need to swing it wide or snap it over the top which was the result for the Dragons yesterday.

Moses is non-effective at his best and non-existent at his worst, Naiqama is hopeless and that is Nofo's fault?

If he's getting beat one on one week after week I'll concede that, but he's not, he's nursing a two man overlap time after time. He stays out, they score inside, he stays in and he has a chance of closing it out. Where are the inside men putting pressure on the kicker?

I did actually say "like Matt Johns,". not specifically him.
But never mind your inaccuracy
But as you seem to know a hell of a lot about Matts capabilities as a halves mentor, you must know of someone extraordinarily good that you could suggest instead, that might have been constructive, instead of your usual drivel.

Johns has worked with quite a few of the clubs over the yearsincluding the Storm with Bellamy and has a good record of good results with players.
But Bellamy is hopeless at picking people to work with his players, isn't he, he is a tosser as well I suppose.
Another reason to go with Brooks is that he seems to want to be here and wants to learn , unlike Moses who seems to know it all ( in his own head at least.)
I wouldnt care if it was Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon that we brought in, as long as he could make Brooks a better player.

So please enlighten us all as to who you would bring in to help a young half whose struggling a bit. Remember though , we don't need Tossers

The problem starts at the middle. You could single out players but it's the whole team.
It starts at the ruck, the Dragons for most of their runs required 4 man tackles. This requires 2 men back in the line. In those long sweeping plays we had 2 of those men going to a defender on the short side and no one in the open side pushed across.
I have problems with our goal line defence.
It is a different defensive strategy, it's all about numbers and upper body tackles.
Most teams prefer to defend on their line and would even give away penalties to ensure it, here's why.
A penalty requires all 13 man at the goal line. When the penalty is less than 10m from the try line it ensures we are well covered and there is no body's pushing back from the ruck.
I've noticed teams have been smart to adopt this strategy to their goal line defence.
If you get a chance to watch the game again. Look at how many men the Dragons have at marker less than 20 out. 1\. And less then 10 meters out? 0\. Also look at the positioning on the line between Dugan and Tedesco. Tedesco nearly always gets caught around the ruck on the short side and man's up there.
Food for thought although Kevie looks like he has no idea and nofoluma from that matter. They are only reacting to the spaces that have now been created. There is no pushing, no up and sliding, no talk.
The team is a rabble and I believe it starts from the lack of leadership from our lumberjack captain.

I see it similar. The push from inside out starts late at our right backrower and filters to Moses, then when Kev makes his decision all hell breaks loose. Nofo has no chance at all in this situation. Kev comes in on Moses's man 90% of the time. I dont know if its a lack of trust or a lack of brains, but its clear he wont change doing this. We simply must remove Kevin Naqaima from the team, and we must push across earlier from the inside and we must start trusting each other.

It's the defensive system that doesn't work Kev defitley dosent help but it's poor old Nora left stranded with an overlap each time.

Time for new strategy survey !
