I never realised he was actually Captain Midnight. I only ever knew him as Jet Jackson. The name change came about when producers moved away from Ovaltine as a sponsor of the show.

Captain Midnight (later rebranded on television as Jet Jackson, Flying Commando): a television show (1954–1956) and was rebranded from Captain Midnight to JJFC because the program went into syndication after its initial two-year run but the ex-sponsor (Ovaltine) still owned the rights to the "Captain Midnight" title (again just as you said @Halbrowne61.
