The sounding of the end of shift siren at the Holden plant at Elizabeth on Friday means the closure of the factory, and the end, for the foreseeable future, of car manufacturing in this country.

At the end of the 1983 season, Western Suburbs Magpies were in a difficult position. Wests played the season without a major sponsor, were gearing up to fight the NSWRFL's efforts to kick them out of the competition, and finished 1983 with a wooden spoon. So the club needed some out of the box thinking to get back on track over the off-season.
The solution? A high-profile rock concert at our home ground of Lidcombe Oval, on 23rd October, 1983.
