NRL ALL STARS - Which Tiger Will U Choose?

I noticed that both Farah and Ennis will miss out as there is only one spot for a specialist hooker and that is already taken by Smith, but they wernt in my team anyway.

1\. Hayne
2\. Vatuvei
3\. Folau
4\. Best
5\. J. Morris
6\. Lockyer
7\. Marshall
8\. Blair
9\. Smith
10\. Civoniceva
11\. Ellis

13\. Harrison

14\. Tolman
15\. Douglas
16\. O'Donnell
17\. Tongue
18\. Robertson
19\. Gidley
20\. Pearce

I didn't really want the last three but you have to pick someone from each club and this was the closest I could get.

Gotta go with ellis. The big pom would do the club proud and smash a few of the others too.

Although, Marshall and Moltzen have a good understanding. Tim coming off the bench, or even a surprise selection somewhere in the starting side could be a good move by bennett. Those two would carve up. There aren't to many combinations possible due to the nature of the selection process. Don't be surprised to see this happen.

12:39 Wayne Bennett: You're a smart judge. I totally agree, i'd put him in my team!

What about Robbie Farah ? do you prefer him to be in the side as a utitility Tuesday January 5, 2010 12:44 Elias

12:45 Wayne Bennett: No. I've looket him & Mick Ennis and i don't think they would work as well as utility type players. As good as they are, they probably don't fit.

Wayne Bennett says who he wants in All Stars side

WAYNE Bennett hopes Matt Cooper, Gareth Ellis and Kurt Gidley are voted onto the NRL All Stars team he is to coach against the All Star Indigenous side.

Fans get to pick 16 players, one from each NRL club, for Bennett's 20-man squad to play the pre-season clash at Skilled Park on February 13 against a powerful combination containing the likes of Greg Inglis, Johnathan Thurston and Justin Hodges.

Bennett has shortlisted 64 players, four from each club, for fans to choose from.

And although he has no direct say in who is selected, the veteran St George Illawarra mentor has his own ideas about who should line up alongside the four nominated automatic choices - Darren Lockyer, Benji Marshall, Adam Blair and Cameron Smith.

Asked in a live blog on the NRL website to name the one player he would pick if given the chance, Bennett plumped for Dragons centre Cooper.

"The centres will have to pick up Hodges and Inglis and he is one of the best defensive centres in the game," Bennett said.

The coaching great also nominated Englishman Ellis and NSW skipper Gidley as players he would like to see in his squad.

"I hope Kurt gets picked - he's ideal for this game adding to the balance of the team," he said.

"He can play anywhere and we'll need guys like him. He'll get plenty of playing time."

Ellis, who enjoyed a successful first season in the NRL last year, is named alongside Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence and Tim Moltzen as the Wests Tigers' nominations.

Bennett agreed with a claim that the former Leeds Rhino was the best player on the list and said the poster who made the call was a smart judge and Ellis would be in his team.

Voters have until midnight (AEDT) on January, 29 to make their selections at NRL All Stars

WILL ELLIS MAKE THE NRL ALL STARS SIDE?
Wednesday, 20 January 2010

NRL All Stars Coach Wayne Bennett has shown his support for Wests Tigers second-rower Gareth Ellis by declaring he wants him in his side for the February 13 match.

The fans have voted Israel Folau, Billy Slater, Kurt Gidley and Anthony Watmough as their top picks for the NRL All Stars side and with voting now closing a day earlier – at midnight (AEDT) on January 28, 2010 – the public has only eight days left to shape who will face the Indigenous All Stars in the inaugural Harvey Norman All Stars clash on February 13.

More than 12,000 fans have selected their NRL All Stars team but the final line-up is still undecided, making it more important than ever for fans to cast their votes.

Voting in this final stage has been moved forward a day to allow the NRL All Stars team a longer preparation and will now finish at midnight (AEDT) on January 28, 2010.

With the deadline fast approaching for selectors, NRL All Stars coach Wayne Bennett is once again taking the time to confer with fans through an online blog.

From 12.30pm AEDT (11.30am in Queensland) tomorrow, Thursday January 21, on http://www.nrl.com/allstars" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, Bennett will discuss the potential make-up of the NRL All Stars side.

Fans can then take the opportunity to cast their votes as to who should join automatically selected internationals Darren Lockyer, Benji Marshall, Cameron Smith and Adam Blair to wear the NRL All Stars Jersey on February 13.

In his previous blog, Bennett posted comments in response to questions about the team, the All Stars concept, modified rules and broadcast innovations. His comments included:

When asked on his preferred position for the voting leader, Israel Folau:

“Definitely wing. That’s the best position at the moment. Later on he will handle centre but wing is the position he plays most regularly.”

When questioned on the importance of a forward pack versus a strong backline:

“It’s a tough decision, having gone through it myself. We need a good forward pack, but getting the balance right is the key. We need to be able to gain yards and defend, then have a backline that can capitalise on yards gained.”

On Wests Tigers’ forward Gareth Ellis:

“I’d put him in my team.”

Voting for the teams has been overwhelmingly supported by over 47,000 fans who have taken up their opportunity as selectors in the creation of the Indigenous All Stars side and the shaping of the NRL All Stars team.

Coach Bennett has provided the public with his guide for the team by dividing the 64 shortlisted players into his preferred positions.

The coach has divided the backs into three groups:

• Fullback – Specialist role

• Outside Back – Includes centres and wings

• Inside Back – A player who can play five-eighth or halfback

Forwards are also divided into three categories

• Tight Forwards – A player who plays front-row and also second-row

• Edge Forwards – A second-rower or lock who can play on both the right and left side edge of a team’s attack and defence.

• Hooker – Specialist role

The coach wants at least three tight forwards in the starting line-up

The Coach’s remaining notes are:

• Players marked as utility players have been designated on the basis of their ability to cover multiple positions.

• The seven man bench will require:

- two Tight Forwards
- one Edge Forward
- one Inside Back
- one Outside Back
- two Utilities

Bennett has already appointed Lockyer at five-eighth, Marshall at half, Smith at hooker and Blair in the front-row. Bennett has assigned each of the 64 short-listed players in the position he wants the public to consider them for and players can only be voted for in one of their designated position/s.

The first representative to be voted into the NRL All Stars team will be the player that receives the highest number of overall votes for a single position. This will mean that no other player from that representative’s club will be eligible to make the team.

The next player selected will have recorded the second highest number of overall votes for a single position.

If a player is unable to play due to injury he will be replaced by someone from the bench. Another player, from the injured player’s club, will fill the bench spot – the new player having recorded the second highest number of votes from that club, either as a forward, back or utility, depending on the position needed for the bench.

There are just a few remaining tickets to the game, including corporate packages and single seats. Ticket enquiries can made through Ticketek outlets, on 132 849 or http://www.ticketek.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

ELLIS AN ALL STAR?
Thursday, 21 January 2010

In just one season in the NRL, Wests Tigers forward Gareth Ellis captured the imagination of the Rugby League public and he is now riding a wave of fan support to be on the verge of NRL All Stars selection.

The popular Englishman had a stellar first year at the Wests Tigers in 2009 and after a strong showing against Australia in the Four Nations Tournament, Ellis is within touching distance of joining the game’s elite in the NRL All Stars side to take on the Indigenous All Stars on February 13.

Ellis is fighting off competition from his own captain, Robbie Farah, and flyer Chris Lawrence to be the Wests Tigers representative in the highly anticipated game.

“Twelve months ago I was in fear of the unknown,” Ellis told NRL.com.

“Playing in the NRL was a big test for me last year, one which I thoroughly enjoyed and things have happened pretty quickly for me.

“The fans have been great, they have made me feel really welcome from day one, and that is a big thing, when you move from one side of the world to the other, is to feel wanted and that is exactly how I’ve felt since I’ve been at the Wests Tigers.”

The public must select 16 players – one from each of the NRL clubs – to join automatically selected internationals Darren Lockyer, Benji Marshall, Cameron Smith and Adam Blair.

The first player selected in the NRL All Stars team public vote will be the representative who receives the highest overall number votes for a single position. His selection will mean that no other player from that representative’s club will be eligible to make the side.

@Buckets of blood said:
I'm more interested in our trials than this mickey mouse game….lets just hope our boys come thru healthy

Especially as the two reps will now miss our first trial and the Cows will be light on as well

The full 20-man squad, in playing positions, will be exclusively revealed on NRL.com today at 12pm

Automatic inclusions: Darren Lockyer, Benji Marshall, Cameron Smith, Adam Blair

Fans selections*:
Billy Slater (Storm)
Israel Folau (Broncos)
Manu Vatuvei (Warriors)
Dave Taylor (Rabbitohs)
Anthony Watmough (Sea Eagles)
Jarryd Hayne (Eels)
Luke O’Donnell (Cowboys)
Kurt Gidley (Knights)
Anthony Tupou (Sharks)
Alan Tongue (Raiders)
Luke Bailey (Titans)
Josh Morris (Bulldogs)

But four representatives – from the Dragons, Wests Tigers, Panthers and Roosters – will not be confirmed until a final tally of the votes occurs later this morning after thrilling selection races that will be determined by just handfuls of votes.

Based on the criteria, I think it's down between Farah & Lawrance. There is still a centre & a utility position up for grabs. Unfortunatly I think Ellis has missed out. Same goes for Moltzen.

Farah will probably get the utility spot, even if he isn't really one.

Neither is Gidley, but that doesn't stop him from being picked there.

And the rest are….

Garreth Ellis - Wests Tigers
Dragons - Matt Cooper
Panthers - Michael Jennings
Roosters - Nate Myles
