Well done Ellis…...

Lawrence robbed.....

The Indigenous side doesn't have much in the way of Props....so it will be an even match Up....

Wonder if Laurie will go looking for Ellis.....

LOL...Nate Miles......ALL STAR

Fairly strong lineup which will hopefully make for an interesting matchup. VERY strong backrow with Ellis, Whatmough and O'Donnell all able to go the distance and hit hard in D. Good looking backline too.

I think the indigenous side are specials...not because they have a better side, but because they're playing for their people.

Just imagine what will be going through the head of guys like Preston, Thurston, Laurie etc.

All stars no chance.., it will all be about passion.

Hope the bookies put a market up.

I think the Indigenous team will win…the Props are pretty even.....I'd rather the All Star Props in my team...

Fui Fui would have been better but where would that leave GOD....

Nar the NRL All Stars have a much better front row and it could have been even better if Fui was playing. I am tipping the NRL All Stars to win because they have the better forward pack. That's where they will win it. Also looking forward to seeing a combination of Marshall and Lockyer with Slater chiming in..

BENJI MARSHALL AND GARETH ELLIS NAMED IN ALL STARS GAME
Friday, 29 January 2010

The smile on the face of Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall said it all…the All Stars game on Saturday, February 13, is going to be plenty of fun.

As the Kiwi Test captain, Marshall was an automatic selection in the inaugural game which brings together some of the game’s biggest names in one team for the first ever time.

Wests Tigers second-rower Gareth Ellis will join the five-eighth in the All Stars jersey. Ellis has captured the imagination of the rugby league public following his superb debut season in 2009 which led to him representing England and being named the world's best second-rower.

Apart from the playing talent in the match, one of the reasons Marshall is excited is the chance to again spend time in the company of one of the game’s greatest coaches in Wayne Bennett.

The two formed a strong friendship after Bennett acted as an assistant coach for the World Cup winning Kiwis in 2008\. Marshall has been blessed in being coached by two of the best in the business in Bennett and Wests Tigers and Australian coach Tim Sheens.

“I can always make Wayne laugh,’’ Marshall said, minutes after Bennett cracked a smile.

Marshall and Ellis will be joined in the All Stars side by the likes of Billy Slater, Israel Folau, Benji Marshall, Darren Lockyer, Cameron Smith, Dave Taylor, Jarryd Hayne, Kurt Gidley and a star from every NRL team.

When asked who would be calling the shots, Marshall’s smile widen.
“Locky…Marshall will just be sitting back watching it happen. I have always admired him,’’ he said.

NRL Chief Executive, David Gallop, joined the NRL All Stars coach along with Marshall and Taylor to end two months of public voting and to signal an historic start to the 2010 Rugby League season.

The team will assemble on Sunday, February 7, with its first public appearance at Blacktown on Monday, February 8.

“With the names unveiled today the fans have certainly delivered an amazing side for the Harvey Norman All Stars match,” Gallop said.

“The prospect of Darren Lockyer, Jarryd Hayne and Benji Marshall together against players like Johnathan Thurston, Greg Inglis, Scott Prince and Preston Campbell is an incredible one for every sports fan.

“Over the last few months, 50,000 voters have made it clear that these are the players the fans want to see and I think everyone is now counting down the days to kick-off.”

Bennett points to the strike power of both teams in predicting a showcase of League’s speed and skill:

“There might be only two points in it at the end but I can tell you that with the players on these two teams we won’t be looking at a 10-8 score line,’’ he said.

“Players on both sides are genuinely excited about the chance to play together and they’ve all got plenty of pride, they are going to want show what they can do.

“I certainly think the fans have done a great job in selecting both teams.”

As well as providing one of the most talked about Rugby League season openers ever, the match is on track deliver $1.5 million to 2010 community projects, with a particular focus on Indigenous areas.

“It’s a real example of the clubs and the players coming together to help their community,” Mr Gallop said.

“As well as providing some great entertainment, the match will have a lasting legacy through One Community and Indigenous education programs.

“The spirit in which the game comes together on the second anniversary of the Prime Minister’s apology to the Stolen Generation underlines the way Rugby League brings people together to celebrate the best in Australian sport.”

If one of the newly-appointed NRL All Stars announced today is unable to play in the Harvey Norman All Stars match, he will be replaced by someone from the bench.

Another player, from the injured player’s club, will fill the bench spot – the new player having recorded the second highest number of votes from that club, either as a forward, back or utility, depending on the position needed for the bench.

While public seating is sold out, there are still a number of corporate packages and seats available for the game. Ticket enquiries can made through Ticketek outlets, on 132 849 or http://www.ticketek.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Really? Webb is a back rower (and a bloody ordinary one at that). Rose is a solid bench prop, nothing special. Laurie is useless and Lahrs is more of a back rower (but the only good player in the 4.

For the All Stars, Bailey is an Australian international, Myles is a Qld rep, Blair is Kiwi vice captain and Taylor is a future origin rep. Indigenous backline better be able to score some long range tries if they want to win this one.

I think the Indigenous team will win cause it's pre-ordained…It's their Game...bit like Charity Cricket games........

As I said....Would prefer the All Stars Props in my team.....Them indigenous boys will fire Up for 'Pride'.....make it even.......

I'm thinking Community Sentiment will be with the Indig - Team

however I will be baracking for Benji and the All Stars

I'll just make sure it's headed in the right direction, says Bennett of his role with the NRL All Stars

Q You'll have Benji Marshall and Darren Lockyer in the same team. Will that make your job easier?
>
A It does. It's not just those two, though - you've got guys like Adam Blair, who is a wonderful player. He now gets a great opportunity to play with the Australian forwards who he only ever opposes at international level. And he gets to play with Lockyer. It's opened a lot of opportunities. There's the big fella from Auckland, Manu Vatuvei - he's a wonderful player in his own right and now he gets the chance to play outside of backs he only ever plays against in club footy. It's the reverse too for the Australians. There's not one of them that wouldn't be looking forward to playing with Benji.
>
Q Lockyer and Benji are two guys you think highly of. How do you think they'll come together?
>
A You know what - Benji will love playing with Locky, like all players do because he's such an unselfish player. Benji will also enjoy the freedom that Locky will give him by throwing the ball at the right time, when he wants it. It will allow Benji to play his game and bring Benji into his own light. Sometimes he can't play his own game, but with Lockyer there and Cameron Smith as hooker, it will allow Benji to show all those wonderful skills. He'll be able to run the football the way that he can.
>
Q How do you coach a team like this? Do you let Benji and Darren take over or do you still need a structured game plan?
>
A I just see myself as a facilitator, making sure things are organised and that everyone is on the same wavelength. [Assistant coach] Brad Fittler is there as well, so I'll give him some responsibility. No one can question his qualities as a player and a tactician of the game. They'll sort it out. I'll just make sure it's headed in the right direction.

Ellis is out of the match because of a so called injury and the same for Daine Laurie.

Laurie was an obvious one with his broken toe. Panthers are aiming to have him ready for round 1\. Ellis is a surprise though, hope it's nothing serious.

That is disappointing. I wonder whether our second most popular player becomes his replacement despite not playing the same position.

I have since read an article stating that Ellis has been granted compassionate leave to spend time with his new child and wife - rather than being injured which is a relief.
