NRL announces rule changes

My pet hate is players lifting their leg and smoothly rolling the ball through . . . so I'm looking forward to correct PTB's.
Personally, I don't know why the new rule says "attempts". I'm sure most forward passes are attempts at backwards passes ?

Agree, the word attempts makes it subjective. You have either done it right or not.

These new rules still don't benefit dairy farmers. There are no rules against milking a penalty.

Having players have to leave the field if the trainer stops the game will help. There’s still plenty of instances where a player milks a penalty and then jumps right back up, Nathan brown style

It will help, but most of them will claim a Hia and get a free interchange anyway.

Hia is obviously being rorted in alot of cases, but I don't know how you can monitor or enforce it.

2 point field goal? That's huge.
And no scrum if the ball goes out, just a ply the ball. Scrums only for knock-ons I guess, that's a big change too.

To control the speed of the game, more work will be spent in the wrestling whilst standing in the tackle, then dumping to the ground just after the ref calls held. Storm and Roosters did this very well last year, we need to follow suit.

Greg inglis got ir right then with the field goal when down by 2😂😂

I'm the same. No excuses for not playing the ball with your foot. The player only has to drop his leg maybe 5 inches and slow down a poofteenth.

IMO, 6 again for inside the 10m will be utter chaos.

Also, bit ridiculous to try and implement significant rule changes with only one trial game.
Refs will take the matter into their own hands on the field and inconsistency will run rampant.

I don't think the league does enough to support the refs, they are not the main event but you can't have the game without them.

They should adjust the kicking rule that results in a 7 tackle set for defending team..

*Leaping from or positioning 1 foot on your own try line & catching the bomb results in a 7 tackle set.
Should be changed to;

*7 tackle set should only result from the attacking team knocking on in goal or the ball going dead off the attacking team.

Yes.

Imagine 2 minutes to go and you're 2 points ahead defending your line. Why would you not just stand offside and spoil the attack knowing they won't award a penalty (unless that's discretionary in which case the entire rule becomes subjective)

I think in this circumstance they would award a penalty and use the sin bin

This is a great decision.

Agree, it will stop a lot of fake injuries just to hold up play and give the team a breather. The penalty is it will take up an interchange. I’m sure there will be some circumstances where the captain/coach will abuse it and think it is worth it anyway.

Well I got that wrong, only off for two minutes. This will be abused beyond belief.

I like the idea of less scrums. Its not the scrum itself that annoys me but they take an age to set, then re-set then the team with the feed just gets it anyway.
Get rid of them.

I don’t like the 2 point drop goals, I don’t want anything encouraging two point plays. I want to see try’s scored.
Some good additions though like the injured player must be interchanged.
Find it odd no one is bothered to address the defending team getting a tap restart when an attacker has knocked on in goal while attempting to score a try.

Really don't think it's fair.... Genuine cases shouldn't lose and interchange

They will just get around it by calling every player down as a HIA. Unless you are now going to lose an interchange for HIAs as well.

Yeah, likely to be plenty of players returning with ankle and knee strapping from their HIA experiences.

These new rules are all well and good if the refs officiate the teams evenly, but we all know that never happens. Until the refs are fair to both teams during a match we’re never gonna see the game improve.

Every year they always review the rules, trying to make the game more marketable. I wish they'd focus on consistency between referees on a week to week basis and even in calls made by the same referee. For me there's way too much subjectivity in a the decision made within a game, and barely any focus on the consistency. This is why decisions can appear so skewed, and thoughts of bias in the referee decisions are brought up.

Hopefully employing badger can help us get our head around these rules, and use them to our advantage.

To be honest, consistency across referees and games is over rated. I would much prefer refs to officiate with their own style and personality instead of trying to be identical and meet KPI's. When I played you would know what ref you had and knew some refs were harder on being offside than others, for example and adjust your game to suit.

Refs are human with different traits and personalities, some are more suited to being more authoritarian while others would be more suited to being game managers and letting the game flow. Trying to make them all the same is part of the reason officiating is at such a low.

Need a referee clean out and just piss the bunker off all together .

I really don't care if a player doesn't touch the ball with their foot when playing it, as long as they look like they've tried.
I really don't want to watch a game where a ref is blowing penalties for something that really doesn't matter.
Blatant rolls between the legs is fair enough ping them

He was definitely a player that was ahead of his time.
