And your parents would’ve said the same thing about your generation’s music and so on and so forth.

I listen to more music released now than any era before me because I’m young. Everyone’s biased towards the era of music they grew up in because that was the trending sounds of the time.

No. Not at all factual. I have a love of music - not generational music. But the rubbish that is produced and fed to us now is bloody appalling at best imo.

Wrong.

I would agree that a lot of currently charting music lacks quality in comparison to what charted in previous eras but there is still a wealth of extremely quality music being produced every single year.

Just have to look for it sometimes.

For sure. The music of one's youth is almost always the primary listening, though the genre will vary.

That said, I have trouble imagining club music lasting into the old age listening habits of most.

Mate your user name is rustycage and your avatar is from badmotorfinger clearly pegging you as a soundgarden fan and playing you as tied to a musical era. You may listen to music from all generations but you have a bias towards certain sounds. Saying what is fed to us now is “appalling at best” also shows your bias.

The Wiggles would have taken out top spot because 1. It’s actually a decent cover, 2. They are a familiar band for the ‘youth’ triple J promote towards (mid 20s grew up with the wiggles). 3. You vote for up to 10 songs with each song only counted as 1 vote, enough people put a song in their top 10 it wins.

I’m 40 so don’t know most of the songs in the countdown but can see how it won. It has nothing to do music these days but more the system.

Don't know what genre of music you most enjoy, but in the past 5 or 6 years, Kendrick Lamar has made some of the best hip-hop music of all time, Gang of Youths have emerged as a terrific Aussie rock band, Anderson .Paak is awesome in the soul/R&B scene, but those are just some of my favourites.

Once again, I'm 20, so my music tastes are tied towards the sounds and trends I've grown up with. In 10 to 20 years I might think negatively about the music of that time.

Went to see the Doobies and Santana a few years back at Homebush. Same lineup with that sax player. Absolutely Unbelievable show. Funniest part was my mate took his 20 yr old daughter who sat next to me and at one stage during the show commented how amazing it was that they could all play instruments!!! I see what you’re saying.

Yes mate. That's my point. Clearly you get it. I can't be bothered to argue on points here. I let those that disagree be. During my teen years, I was pretty obsessed with hair bands - white snake, Motley Crue, Ratt etc. But if I had a favourite band, it would definitely be Steely Dan. But I also love the fact that Soundgarden put together some unbelievably technical music - particularly Matt Cameron as drummer and CC with his lyrics and vocal ability. But rather than argue the point with someone that thinks a simple cover of a song is red hot, I move on.

I don’t care what era you are from, if you think any of todays music is as profound as The Beatles or Zepplin, you are off your head.

Just heard that Wiggles like a version song that won hottest 100.
The cringe was out of this world. Just aweful.
Each to their own though…
