Call me what you like,my opinion is that as an Australian citizen born and bred in this magnificent country,I was raised to respect everything Australian,my parents came here after WW2 and called Australia home ever since, they have now deceased but are buried in this great country in a small cemetary in the Southern highlands amongst purebred Australian friends that respected them for who they were..
I was always taught to sing the anthem loud and clear from a very young age at school, back then it was "waltzing matilda"..then it became Advance Australia Fair..I bet LM,ADO CAR AND Walker were all made to sing it in school as well..How pathetic to turn your back on the true essence of Australia because they think they are hard done by...look what they earn and the privaledge they are given from playing our great game in this fantastic country...and they think we are privaledged because they are indigieous and we are white,,,as far as my parents thought we were all equal and working to make this country great...how politics and minority tossers have ruined this country...

How can Advance Australia Fair represent the true essence of Australia when it’s was only made the national anthem in 1984, many years after your parents arrived here. Did we not have an essence before that.

The real essence of Australia is multiculturalism with all cultures equally respected and until we have a national anthem which reflects this then I don’t believe we should be forcing anyone to respect it.

Just to answer your question mate...it was the Anthem that people voted on to be the NATIONAL ANTHEM,it was by Australians for Australians...that is the true essence of our country ,we as a whole work together, live together and stick by each other to be the great country we are,if a minority that wants to split because they have issues from the past or other forms of missalighnment instilled in them...then their not truely grasping the multicultural essence we always have had..

When you say issues from the past I suppose your talking about the whole attempted genocide on our indigenous culture thing. Attitudes to the indigenous cultures today are very different to what they were in 1984. We have began to own the horrific treatment we subjected these people to and are in the process of attempting to atone for past crimes. Part of this is accepting indigenous Australians as equal members of our society and the national anthem should reflect this.

We are lucky we won the war, couldn’t see the Japs being to worried about any of us tbh.
Of course attitudes are changing, except for some who want to live in the past.
Btw, we can’t change the past, so not sure what you think we should do.

If the indigenous players do not want to sing the National Anthem - then they should stay in the sheds until the Anthem has been sung - that way they won't be disrespectful to the Athem or offensive to the majority of Australians that DO respect it.

Lucky the Dutch didn't colonise Australia before the Poms or it would have been different country now.

I want a few lines thrown in there about how unfair the nrl is to my team.

There's more to life than bloody football mate.

We all LIVE in this country, and we have much to rejoice about.

Maybe you should try to live in Eritrea or Rwanda for awhile if you think there is nothing to rejoice about here other than football.

Could you imagine a New Zealand Rugby or Rugby League player refusing to be respectful while their National Anthem was played or refusing to take part in a Haka.

You can call me a redneck or a racist, which is believe is a long way from the truth, but all I can say about it is:

Australia, Love it or Leave it!

New Zealand is a different country which had a treaty, which was originally brokered between the Maori and English, as a founding document of the country. The NZ anthem is also fairly inclusive of the Maori people.

So people who's ancestry goes back before there was an Australia should leave if they disagree with aspects of Australia or don't feel represented by a song?

Thankfully Vlandys took charge and common sense prevailed it is the Australian Anthem played at GF and Origin always.

Maybe I could be wrong ....The Maoris believe they owned their land ......The Aborigines lived on the land but didn't believe in ownership of the land as such

I don’t expect you to take responsibility for the past but we do need to accept that it happened and seek to repair the damage it caused to our indigenous communities. It’s a process and we have made great strides in this but we have a way to go and accepting that the anthem does not reflect the hopes and dreams of all Australians and excludes a section of our community is an essential part of this.

Does anyone know of any of the betting agencies offering odd on Anthem protests?

What price someone takes a knee?

I hope they do take a knee if only to see Pauline Hanson’s head exploding.

I cant believe that the Anthem has been sung for years since it was made our national song....ONLY now with the generation of entitlement and BLM supporters has it had grievance, along with take a knee since a black american with a criminal background died because of an excess of drugs in his system and some excessive force by a WHITE police officer....I can see where the division is and it aint coming from me......

Who's National Anthem is it? Iceland, Ukraine, Brazil.......?

You say " it excludes an important part of our community" how? is that community you speak of Australians or not?

And while you are on your high horse you might like to ponder a couple of facts.

This community did not just miraculously appear here ... they came and they took, just the same as the first white settlers did.

The stolen generation was also white as well as black.

Australians (through our PM / Government (at the time) said SORRY to all the indigenous people of this land.

When is it going to be enough?????

Obviously not until everyone that is not termed indigenous leaves these shores and takes all our 212 year history and material rubbish with us.

However - you cannot change the past ..... your solution is what??

I don’t care if any player sings it to be honest ...
The ones that protest against it shouldn’t be using sport to protest ..
They should be voicing there opinions in there own time ..

The not singing of the National Anthem in Australia started well before the BLM movement. It is possible that the reason this is occurring now is because for a very long time indigenous Australians did not have a voice in this country. Advance Australia Fair became our National Anthem just 22 years after indigenous people received the right to vote. It is possible they are now just starting to find their voice as a people more than just individuals.

The one the Seekers wrote is by far the best one and more reflective of all Australians, imo. I think they should change it to that, Advance Australia Fair is quite uninspiring really.

I have no problem with anyone who decides not to sing a song, when I'm at events where it is played I sing, but I don't care if others do or not.
