Yeah Super League was awesome. :crazy
Because of them there is no more North Sydney Bears, Western Suburbs Magpies, Balmain Tigers in first grade, and if they had their way South Sydney Rabbitohs aswell. We still don't have a Perth team or a second Brisbane team which the ARL already had. Brisbane Broncos were greedy and wanted the whole of South East QLD to themselves.
Super League was founded as a direct result of the Broncos not being able to stand over the then NSWRL who despite being run at that time by Ken Arthurson and John Quayle was doing a very credible job.
I read Arkos book and one of his biggest regrets was not making the newcomers pay a franchise fee, at least when the hypocrites signed with Super Greed then the ARL as it evolved to would have had a fighting fund.
I can't believe that after all this time the organisation that gave the GayFL such a head start could still seriously bring us back to the dark old days of the mid 90's.
Players are mercenaries so will go to who ever pays the highest $$$ but in the case of 1997 the ARL had the better product despite losing all the fringe players who provided depth, the only game from 1997 that anyone ever talks about is the ARL Grand Final with Newcastle pulling off the upset.
Manly were the dominant team in 1995 & 1996 and only had a slightly weakened roster and were expected to easily win the decider and if the top 4 teams, two from the ARL & SL had gone head to head in a Super Bowl scenario I'm of the opinion that it still would have been the ARL teams slogging it out.
It's emotional when you drag up old wounds but when News Ltd still has a clause that could see them try and control the game again at their whim then it's just wrong, Rupert you turn coat, get the @#$% away from our game and remember it's still A sport in my eyes and not about $$$$.
You and your son broke so many promises, why is now GayFL the major sport when in the mid 90's was imploding and what has happened about making RL players household names in outer Mongolia!.
