NRL cash might put Wests Tigers' Leichhardt affection to the test

Play it at the SFS and grab an extra $200k while they're at it IMO.

Atmosphere is important as is Home ground advantage, The Tigers are still a growing club and not as affluent as your Drags or Eels. The significant extra $$$ means a lot.

Correct if wrong
NRL Bonus + Additional Gate Takings (or is Semi Gate takings go only to NRL)

For me the ultimate factor is that there will be the opportunity to take my 3 kids along to watch out Tigers as the SFS affords people like me with a young family through access to parking and allocated seating.

This all seems to be another Humphreys masterstroke. If he had have announced the game would be at SFS we'd get squat from the NRL. By dangling Leichhardt as a possible venue now we're talking about some serious cash coming our way.

I dare say you're pretty much on the mark Yossarian. He's a razor sharp operator and it wouldnt surprise me this is exactly his ploy.

Sorry kids I was being sarcastic. The night against St George was probably the best atmosphere ever experienced at a football game (so I'm told). The only game that rivals it was the Maggies v Chargers in the late 90's…wow!!

A semi at Leichardt would be awesome in my opinion and would actually give us a major advantage against which ever team we have to verse unlike SFS.

i'd happily pay twice as much as I normally would for a ticket if the game were held at Leichhardt

Sorry the atmosphere at the SFS is awful as well. Who can forget the games against Brisbane and St George in 2005, it was like a morgue!!

you obviously didn't go to the same prelim final against St George that i went to.

until i went to an EPL match in England last year, the prelim final at the SFS was by far the most electrifying atmosphere of any game i'd ever been too

and its a tough situation the club is in, but its a bloody good one.

at the end of the day the best business decision for the club is a game at the SFS

I was at Brisbane and St George SFS games in '05 and it was certainly not a Morgue. esp. the Dragons game where the Tiges fans were noticeably outnumbered because of the dragons rorting the ticket sales and we yelled them out of the stands. Great memory!!
SFS is a must for Gary Bakerloos reasons. esp. the 20k fans who'd miss out.
& if we can get $250k or so cash as a bonus why not! (btw, my guess is that the club has already decided internally that they're happy to play at the bigger ground but are trying to get some extra cash out of the NRL before they tell them. Smart move if that's what they're doing)

X2

I would love to see the final at LO but lack of reserved seating really kills it for me. Packed hill at LO is not really kid friendly.

Didn't a whole of Tigers fans (and members of this forum) kick up a big storm that Tigers fans missed out on tickets against the Dragons in 2005 and that the game wasn't moved to the Concrete Jungle? Though I wouldnt mind the game been played at one of our traditional venues I wouldnt want to shut the gate on 10s of thousands of Tigers fans that can't get into the ground.

The Wests Tigers will have 75%+ of the support against the Roosters or Silvertail scums at the SFS. Which will mean 30k+ Wests Tigers fans will get to see the match. Whereas a game at one our traditional venues will only enable approx 15k Wests Tigers fans to see the match as a portion of the tickets need to be made available to away fans.

Anyways all this talk of home semi is making me even more nervous. Like Sheens… said "lets wait till it happens"!!

there is a big difference between week 1 of the finals and week 3

We wait 5 years to make the finals again and we shut out 20,000+ fans and provide awful corporate facilities for our sponsors.

Wake up.

If it does turn out to be the Rorters….then NO WAY......stuff the Corporates ...a win at Leichhardt or Campbelltown in week 1 and then the SFS or wherever,,,Or we could play Leichhardt and claim Cambo as a region like the Dragons did with WINongong week 2....

The Tigers, currently in third place, are keeping their options open. Chief executive Stephen Humphreys did not wish to comment on where a first final would be played, should they claim one, although he was set to brief the club's board last night.

Even though it is up to **the clubs as to where they play their home finals,** the NRL would certainly prefer that a final against the Roosters be played at the Sydney Football Stadium. There are also concerns about the corporate facilities at Leichhardt Oval.

Leichhardt is on the agenda....

Unfortunately, we can't

because in the end, without sponsorship, this club struggles.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel good as it will soon be off the agenda. The NRL learnt a lesson last year with the Dragons and won't let it happen again. Good negotiating skills by Humphreys if that is his strategy, because in the end, we will be playing at SFS if we get a home semi.

Can't be serious…I was there on both nights and yes we won both games..the atmosphere was magic. Still have video footage. For the ST George game most supporters were for ST George as they were buying tickets before us. But what I can say we were much louder...it drove not only the St Georges supporters but their team nuts!!! While our guys played out of their skins!!! Never to be forgotten. On that night we were singing..."Puff the Magic Tiger !!" LOL was great!
