NRL cash might put Wests Tigers' Leichhardt affection to the test

Play it at the SFS and grab an extra $200k while they're at it IMO.

Fine with me unless there is another game at SFS/SCG the same day.

Our sponsors, to my knowledge, haven't complained yet about our facilities and hospitality so as far as I'm concerned that's a non issue. I honestly believe that if the players want to play at leichhardt then let's play there. I think tigers members should have first bite of the cherry when it came to tickets and the rest should be a first in first served basis. Is that a little bit unfair for the rest? Yes it is unfair but maybe next year they'll become a paid member and it'll be a non issue for them. I'm all for Leichhardt simply because I want every advantage for our team as possible.

Firstly I totally agree that the game should be at Leichhardt because it will give us a strong competitive advantage against whoever we play…but...as someone that has worked for WT in sponsorship the corporate facilities there are atrocious and we had a lot of complaints and difficulties working there.

The difficult part is that the corporates do generate a lot of revenue for the club and they would generate a lot more at the SFS but I agree with you Chris, I think the players would much rather play there, the members that fork out there own hard eraned cash want it there and the opposition definitely DONT want it there, so lets play there.

Guys, Alf Duguid was being sarcastic when he was talking about our 2005 finals matches at the SFS being bad.

LOL @ those saying we have more chance winning @ Leichhardt than we do @ Campbelltown.

What is the single most important thing with the first home semi?
\
\
Looking after the sponsors?

Making money?

Looking after the fans?

Gaining the most advantage over the opposition to assist in a win for the game?

The result is THE single most important thing, everything else will still be there regardless.
It aint rocket science

Oh sugar! Alf please accept my apologies…. I did not pick up on it, I did not read the whole thread! Will not be making that mistake again!

I don't care where we play. If we come to play we will win no matter where it is!! Lets go Tigers, Lets Go!

i think the unbeaten record at LO this year represents something alien…. we were beaten by roosters at CO if im not mistaken...

Hahaha yeah I thought he was as well. Each of those prelim games in 05 was better than the best two at Leichardt and Campo that year combined.
They were awesome.

 Not really.

Is anyone considering the chance that we loose our remaining two matches and dont get a home semi??..
The whole discussion could be irrelevant.

please please please…. play the home semi at the SFS you fools!
the club will benefit in tons of different ways... everyone seen what happnd to St Choke last year, would be a pretty stupid bunch to do the same thing as they did last year
the tigers fanbase is very strong anyway we would outnumber any club in the 8 ( maybe not the dragons) but all the rest... do the smart thing and dnt lock out 20k plus fans  GO YOU TIGERS!

distinct possibility

As much as i would love a semi fnal to be played at a packed out Campbelltown Stadium, I think the SFS should host it.

As mentioned here, for the Broncos and Dragons game in 2005 it was just the right size. Great atmosphere an 20,000 more seats. Rugby League needs to have its big matches in the big arenas.

I am a massive Leichhardt Oval fan but in reality we should play a home semi at the SFS (is the best large venue in Sydney for watching football). Fans have been waiting a long time for another semi final appearance and deserve the opportunity to see us in a home semi. If we don't supply at least 30,000 of our own supporters to a match at the SFS I would be very surprised. If we don't then in the future every home semi should be at either of our traditional veneus.

Even against the roosters we should vastly out number their supporters. Anyone know how many tickets you can buy for a home semi with a membership card? I for one will be buying as many as possible so that all my tigers mates can be their.

I can see both points of this, SFS equals more fans at the ground and a possible incentive from the nrl $$$ and of we take it to LO or CT massive home ground advantage. IMO I think we should put the mission first and that is to win the comp! If we win our first final then we have to play at the Sfs etc any way. LO would give us a massive massive advantage!!! But I wil be happy either way with this issue and still very happy having us in the finals race cannot wait. Go the Wests Tigers

The NRL should make changes to this silly concept. Seriously, the finals are the culmination of the season and we have games played in front of 18,000\. It is a joke. AFL plays in front of 50,000 minimum and up to 90,000 if the match is in Melbourne.

NRL should have a new rule. Yes, you can play at your home ground for the finals, but it must have a minimum capacity of 30,000\. If your ground does not meet this criteria, you have the choice of ANZ or the SFS.

I don't mind where we play it, i love Leichhardt but if i was the CEO i would play it at the SFS.

For me the interesting thing will be how Humpheries handles the situation. This decision will say a lot about his business sense.

Thatd be a great look if canberra or the Cowboys got a home semi…no one there.
Its week I of the semis and always a build up to the GF
20k is usually the norm....another 30 isnt gunna magically appear on wk I :unamused:

Think!

Sure I will think…..North Queensland have held one home semi since their inception. The crowd was 25,000 and this was before the ground was upgraded for the 2003 rugby World cup. Admittedly Canberra has only managed 18,000 for its home semis, but its ground can hold up to 30,000.

These romantic ideas of Sunday afternoons with a picnic rug on a hill watching a suburban game of football are finished as they don't match the costs of the game. The AFL got rid of these ideas in the 90's and they are killing the football landscape of Australia. The first week of the AFL's finals don't satisfy themselves with a "norm" of 20,000, why should the NRL? The logic does not add up.
