NRL clubs Financial Crisis...

While it almost seems a moot point now, it would have been an interesting situation for the Wests Tigers if Balmain had have been granted approval for the redevelopment of Balmain Leagues club several years ago, rather than the very public debacle which has resulted in Balmain having one foot in the grave so to speak. A strong Wests and Balmain Leagues club would have been good for the club.

some stupid slothfield article.

couldnt care less.

fails to mentions the leagues clubs literally own a lot of these clubs like the panthers and eels and pay off all their 'losses'

It's simply a money grab by clubs from the NRL… "leaked by someone in the room"

Firstly we need to understand if these are real losses, or just paper talk?

If they are real losses, then you need to identify if they are caused through revenue shortfalls, higher than forecasted operating costs or reckless spending.

The greed of being the best is rife across the NRL, and financial responsibility is usually someone else's problem.

LET THEM DIE,!!

The NRL produced the paper and presented at a meeting of CEO's that was supposed to be confidential to try and convince clubs to stop being stupid. The game itself lost money as well.

IMO player payments at NRL level are higher than they should be (as a percentage of revenue generated)

None playing football costs are too high (compared to revenue generated)

and non football costs are probably about right, but misallocated in many cases.

The clubs have shown, the more money the NRL given them, the more they spend, and they spend as a percentage of the grant, so they actually lose more and more each year.

Rugby league clubs are poorly run, cause to many ex players are given roles that is not in line with their experience and skillset.

I know Matt Gidley has an MBA, but as if he is the person best equipped to manage an operation with a $15mil turnover. David Smith copped flak cause he want a rugby league guy. When he was in charge they made a $10 mil profit, he leaves, they make a $22m loss. Im being overly simplistic, but you get my point.
