So the NRL is reporting that the training standards at Penrith are higher than WT when a ball is yet to be kicked. Does Madge know about this news? NRL has a serious integrity problem and this is just more evidence of it. If I was working for the club I’d be asking PVL to take it down. The NRL should stick to running a Comp that more than 2-3 teams can realistically win.
Wow, that's a bit unhinged based on comments from a bloke who barely made Tigers first team?
It's not an opinion piece, its a report including a player's comments. NRL are not reporting that training standards at Penrith are higher, NRL are reporting that Matt Eisenhuth has certain comments differentiating Panthers and Tigers.
You actually read the article, right? My summary is actually Eisenhuth isn't really bad-mouthing Tigers, he is differentiating between a team that has just played finals (Grand Final) football and a side that has not.
Here are the quotes
>"The standard is a lot higher than what I'm used to, to be fair, but it's exciting," Eisenhuth told NRL.com.
>"The players are just a bit more confident because they know where they've been and if you're not ready to go you get left behind.
>"It's a different sort of energy level and vibe compared to what I was used to. It's refreshing and sometimes you need a change.
>"That's not to say the playing group at the Tigers weren't confident but winning and playing finals footy breeds confidence.
>"It's enjoyable to come to training and to be fair it got a bit unlike that at the Tigers towards the end of the season.
Pretty clear that Eisenhuth is drawing a distinction about playing for a side that has just come off a successful season.
That’s fine mate but I don’t need the NRL to report it to me as news. I want their resources to be better directed towards juniors, growing the sport, refereeing, improving talent distribution, the judiciary. Why pay someone to write dribble?
The NRL has a media department, this has been an income producer for the NRL.
The off field, NRL media machine is a huge money earner in its own right.
Articles like this don't bother me it amuses me.some get their panties so bunched by it.... But they have been guilty imo of jumping on the gossip/drama bandwagon instigated by other media.
Bad/negative news sells more clicks than good news and they're happy to promote their organisation in a bad light all for $$$
There’s a huge positive out of this , being , that we know that team culture was a shambles at the end of last year . Seriously , the older guys must have been kicking rocks big time for that to be a thing that’s mentioned , and a clear culture change for eiso . As soon as benji didn’t get what he wanted , the last 7 weeks were what we got . That’s so frustrating To hear , but I thank Matt for his honesty
And the NRL is really giving us a leg up in actually signing some decent players by perpetuating this narrative a year on? They should stick to painting the fields and buying footys.
Why do you care man ? It’s not a narrative if it’s true! we were all speculating at that time and the benji nrl360 interviews etc .
The team went from top 6 defence to playing 36-32 games .
The only way that happens is everyone has checked out .
Then it was the benji Marshall audition , for a job . Absolute garbage really . Many of us were saying it at the time , it reeked to high heaven . He didn’t want to grind because his stats would take a hit .
Im sorry , but it’s obvious to me , this is what was going down . Guys saying I need to get my highlight reel up or I’m working at Bunnings this time next year.
Whatever people think, It paints the club in a bad light on the eve of a new season when we are still actively in the market for players. I can cop that from the wider media but it is not what I want to see from an organisation that claims to have integrity.
I really don't know why you are worked up over this. I hardly think the club or players are losing sleep over this.
It’s symbolic of wider problems
The fix is to win games. Until we do that Wests Tigers are an easy target, we have nothing to back up or refute any bad press. Winning games is all that matters.
Being saying it for 10 years. Until it eventuates, meh. Winning games brings crowds, sponsors and elite players to the club and stomps on any bad press.
Win games and it all goes away.
Our recruitment has been steady and deliberate, I got bagged out for saying it in October but it will be the thing that puts us in the winners circle. I expect 2021 to be better than 2020 and I expect 2022 to be even better.
People have been using the ‘we have to start winning games’ argument for years Mike, but losing cultures at the Titans, Cowboys, Bulldogs, Dragons and Newcastle over many years haven’t brought them the same amount of negative press.
Imagine revitalising all those fan bases by introducing some change so that they can compete with the glamour clubs. people would come out of the wood work.
That's the challenge of sport
The clubs themselves need to change (improve)... Not the competition
