NRL Refs

Youd think it was Warriors home game tbh..
Maybe the brief from the top is to get them competitive so we can have a second NZ team..
Well you know how we embraced the Kiwis by taking a home game to Hamilton.
Note, despite promises from other clubs we were the only club to do it.
Maybe we can become the NZ Tigers !
( only joking).

The refs being untouchable is absolute bullshit. Every 6 again they got was on the tryline and late in the tackle count . Every one we got was middle field and early in the count .
The last 15 mins was basically an exercise in laying in the ruck for both teams and yet we couldn’t buy a penalty or 6 agin near the goal line . At least 3-4 of them I was seriously asking wtf was that for .
I try not to ref bash but when early in the season , they were having a stand off approach , and the games were better for it . Now the last round and this , they’ve reverted back to the annelsley school for micro management with head professors the Sutton brothers .
And I don’t even think half the 6 again calls were the on field ref . The bunker had his dirty rotten mite all over that game . Absolute bullshit .

8-5 penalty count to them tonight and two of ours were from the bunker. Our guy gets clocked in the head, nothing. There guy stays down and they get the match winning penalty.
The ref handed the game to the warriors tonight...Their 6 agains were soft, yet for the same slowing down tactics they employed we got nothing....That winning goal penalty was rubbish...He literaly ran into Seyfarths shoulder. At NO time did Seyfarth lead with his shoulder in the tackle, it was unavoidable. ..I have no doubt the Refs are totally biased against the Tigers...Benji should walk the team off the ground in protest one day, that will grab headlines and maybe something will change!

Are they held accountable at all?
Yes, well somewhat is probably more accurate. The refs do an internal review each week. Much like players do game tape and their mistakes are put on show in front of the team, it is the same for the refs. Make to many mistakes and you get dropped to reserve grader.
Much like a footy team however you cant drop everyone. There are only so many contracted refs and you will be bringing up previously dropped blokes.
This doesn't mean there aren't directives. Some publicly announced, many not. They aren't directives to ensure results as much as some like to think but more around focus areas or how the refereeing team should be interpreting certain scenarios. Fail to follow those directives (or speak out against them) and you will find yourself on the outer. Blindly follow and you will be looked after. This is why the Suttons and Klein are liked by those above and why Cecchin and Gee left/fell down the depth chart.

For the record I as a fan think Barnett contributed to his awkward position more so than Fainu. But I see how they got to the penalty. No arms, hint of a cannon ball, attacker ends up in an awkward position, players reacted like some foul play happened. There is a rule way towards the back of the book that any tackle deemed dangerous can be penalized. All the above would make it seem dangerous.

As for Seyfarth, someone pointed it out in the chat. Onus on the defender to not contact the head is the blanket statement to justify the penalty. It is used because the higher ups want all head contact penalized and don't want/allow discretion. As a player and a fan I don't like it. If I was the employee in the box however I probably make the same call.

There 6 agains were pretty much all justified and they slowed down more effectively within the rules, not the same way. I thought a couple times they were probably leaving the line early and didn't get called but nothing outrageous.
I've no doubt the refs aren't bias against the Tigers and it is the one eyed fans with the bias.

There should be a stat on ratio of wins per ref per team - only trouble from a Tigers point of view is that it would show every ref hated us 😊

SBS programs proved that primates as a basic default will always show bias towards a more sociably excepted outcome. And monkeys jibber negative gossip much quicker then positive gossip

Man you’re on drugs . There was 2 ruck speeds at the start of the game , and the warriors in every tackle were not only making sure the player was on his back , but turning him around to face his own goal . You can’t do this within an allowable ruck speed every time . It as like 5-8 seconds every tackle .
Then we are the ones who get pinged for a ruck penalty , which from what I could tell was “hands on the ball” re. The defender was holding the ball up to slow the ruck down . It still would have been 3 seconds quicker than the reverse .
It was beyond hard going at the start of the game because of this . Then when we finally do get down field it’s the same cynical tackles in the ruck . That 1st try we scored was because the ref was finally making the calls . But then it never happened again . Outside of the obvious .
There was one 6 again towards the end of the game where luai got them going backwards and they were tackled on the 20m line , and literally no one knew what it was for . It wasn’t for offside . I think it was hands in the ruck again . You can’t knit pick 1 team , and allow the other team to do what they want .
And the biggest bullshit was , how does CNK stay on the field after he stays down for a head clash . The penalty is neither here nor there . It was once again nit picking . There’s no way they give that if it’s 10 minutes to go in the GF or origin game 3. And that’s the issue . It’s inconsistency .
I think that ref will probably grow into one of the better refs eventually , as he seems like his objective is a good footy match , I honestly think it’s the bunker in his ear constantly . The unfair ruck interpretation was leading to huge fluctuations in momentum .
If you’re going to ref a war of attrition , cool … whatever … but you can’t ref one team like it’s an origin match and the other like it’s a normal nrl match . That’s the problem . Even the head high on Turuva . There was 2-3 more in the game , seyfarth was one of them . No call . Yet his shoulder bounces up off the ball and it’s instant penalty . I don’t have an issue with the penalty . I have an issue with the inconsistencies around it .

I dont believe in conscious bias either.

The issue is that a few contentious ref calls were what changed the game, and that always sucks. So Warriors definitely got the luck of those calls. E.g. the 6 again call before their last try, the Barnett penalty was a rush of blood and unwarranted, got them downfield, then the last penalty on Seyfarth.

And in that sequence after we were pushing for the try to get us 12 ahead, there was a clear 6-again midfield, I think it was Barnett again with a flop on a half-break by us, right in front of me at the game. I was particularly annoyed because he'd just given 2 6-agains to Warriors.

Tigers missed their chances and were punished for a few lazy tackles, but the 50/50 ref calls made that 2 point difference and it sucks.

Tigers PTB speed was a fair bit faster than Warriors according to the Fox stats...

Youre probably right.

Im the one that mentioned the onus being on the defender not to make high contact, sucks really Seyfarth did nothing wrong but according to the NRL he should know what that attacker will do as he meets for contact..... its nothing but a get out clause for the NRL

When im at home im usually pretty ambivalent towards the refs, you get good replays and usually good commentary explaining whats happened in an incident

At the ground your surrounded by rabid, half cut fans baying for blood, trying to watch a replay on the ''big'' screen 100m away thats smaller than my TV at home
