NSW Cup Team Announcement: Round 16

Wests Tigers NSW Cup Coach Paul Fletcher has named his Round 16 side to take on the North Sydney Bears this Sunday, June 28 at North Sydney Oval.

Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 3:00pm as Fletcher’s side look to build on an impressive last start 36-16 victory over the Newcastle Knights on the weekend.

Having missed last week’s match with a hand injury, halfback Josh Drinkwater has been named to make his return on Sunday afternoon alongside Manaia Cherrington, who drops back into the side following his first-grade experience over the last few weeks.

Junior Kiwi international and recently re-signed centre Watson Heleta will also make his NSW Cup debut in the centres with Delouise Hoeter in the first-grade side this weekend.

Getting close to full strength again. Hopefully they can roll the bears.
 
For the life of me cannot understand the continuous promoting and dropping of u20s players to the state cup team. What worth is it to give a player a round in NSW Cup, then 4 in u20s, then another round in NSW Cup, then back to u20s. Especially ludicrous given some of the u20s players perform well in state cup, but are dropped the following week for OTHER U20S players to be given a crack (e.g. Heleta NSW Cup debut, where a spot was open for Seve to go back up). Same applies with Martin. What is the go with Kharwin, why is he consistently NOT being named then rocks up to play, why? Where has Funaki gone. Those with power in our lower grades have about as much sense as our current top grade.

I think its good experience for the kids, while not being too much too soon.
Obed for example had a handful of 20s games then a run against seasoned men…same for Junior Tatola...give them a break
I wonder if the 2nd tier cap comes into this as well.
 
That's a hell of a Sheens bench, four back rowers, a winger and a prop. Our starting prop is what, 18? And we expect this to work?

You can tell how poorly this club is traveling at the moment by looking at this team.

There is no one here putting pressure on the top grade.

Not sure about the reasoning given for no coverage, the Twitter account says they can't be in two places at once. Surely we could have had just one bloke down there?

It sucks that after having strong NSW Cup sides for the past few years, the first time we really need a quality side is when they're at their poorest.

Not a single back who looks anything close to NRL level. That's why we need to bite the bullet and play Seve next week.

Out of favor apparently and has been told to look elsewhere.
 
Willow, is this Taylor's opinion? Fletcher has been coach of this side for a few years and Sitaleki has been with him for some time. Sitaleki has gone from a player on the cusp of NRL selection to a possible NSW Cup discard in less than a year. Following on from the news about Funaki, this is most disappointing.

There is no question Paws, this is all Taylors doing. Akauola is not the type of player he wants.

Funaki is in the same boat.

As was Brown.

As was Blair

As was Thompson

AS was Austin

As was Takarangi
 
TIG, it won't take long for this type of thing to eat away at player confidence. Funaki was selected in the Junior Kangaroos this year but apparently is not good enough to be retained. Bennett must be rubbing his hands with glee and wondering what other talent we are going to let go out the door and which he can sign for peanuts.
