Doesn;t matter how bad you thought Brooks/ Mbye were in firsts - Madden/ Docker-Clay were worse in the reserves game. Madden was actually replaced with 10 or 15 to go.

Tuki Simpkins is well and truly ready for firsts and should replace garner immediately.
Tuki played (pretty sure) the first 50 minutes straight, came off for 15 and then played the last 15. Strong in defence, esp. front on and worked hard. He was playing 8 but would look good as an edge backrower I think - his lateral defence looked alright but as he was playing prop it wasn;t really a focus.

Simpkin (hooker) also played well.

Fitzgibbon and whoever his centre was are a million miles away from being ready for firsts.

No idea who Diaz is but he's big and made a couple of hard runs, with fast leg speed, but then seemed to disappear.

Thanks for your observations

Thanks for the insights mate, gives a bit of perspective

Agree with you about Tuki Simpkins. He must replace Garner who has had enough chances.

A reliable fullback would be handy. Any chances that Cini meets this requirement?

Dropped a medium high ball cold in the second half with no one around him.

Just saw the highlights on NSWRL site. Some pretty ordinary defence across the board by the looks.

Having not seen the NSW Cup game yesterday, interested in thoughts of those who did. Particularly performances of the following players:

Madden
Simpkin
Simpkins
MCK
Tuilagi
Fitzgibbon

No ball in last 25 mins. Looked ok when they had it. Seyfarth good.

It's amazing how some people thought this was a strong squad. It's really not. Canberra has a lot of big and fast players, and a squad with many first graders. We've got a bunch of trialists and guys with potential. Our backline is very average and most of the squad are nobodies. Defence looked awful in the highlights. The strongest side we've had was when Nof was on the wing a year or two ago.

I think the trialists will be sent packing soon, with maybe the exception of Fitzgibbon. We've got talent in the lower grades, with Flegg bursting at the seams. Why go through having mediocre nobodies filling out spots. Send Cooper home, move Hoffman to his natural position of centre as he struggles way too much on the wing.

Those there how did Tuilagi go? Tuilagi, Tuki and Simpkin all look strong chances of promotion in the near future.

And its very poor form that there's highlights but no live stream of games. For all the talk that NSWRL would be streaming games I think only one game was streamed this weekend. It takes far more time and effort to prepare a highlights package, even if some games don't have commentary provide access to the footage that they're already recording.

This needs to happen, If not for Garner for someone else.

I think he can help us roll the ruck a little better and his work rate is what is needed.

I think some people have the same opinion of our NRL side.

Why put up with under performing players, simply pick the best from the grade below them and promote them.

I was at the game and Tui Simpkins played really well in both attack and defense.

Jake Simpkin was good out of dummy half and tried all day

I was looking forward to seeing the side play as they were in essence playing their third game with the Rooster NRL trial seeing a fair few involved and Blacktown workers game at Leichhardt.

The theme from reserves to firsts yesterday was the same, Lack of game management with poor kicking and options taken. Madden did not play well, however Docker clay was at the very least trying. The both teams played very flat in the ruck which is good when the platform is laid however this was not the case and lead to a messy ruck area and forward passes

Fitzgibbon was poor again dropping a bomb and even more concerning he looked to be lazy in defense and while I would like to see him given a contract you would not based off his performances thus far.

Seyfarth tried hard as did Kelma Tuilagi who would be good in First Grade in place of Garner.

I haven't seen the hype with Madden...he doesn't win many games, in 2019 20s improved when he moved up to CC and CC went backwards.
Jakey boy is a gun and should be blooded sooner rather than later or he'll get snapped up by the Rorters

Nice report Sully.

You are on the money Balmain boy. People need to realise that playing grade, doesn’t come down to ability only. It’s a mixture of deals made with managers and people like Hartigan and Maguire, coaches favourites, you know the bloke who screams the loudest at training, runs around high fiving everyone, wants to be everyone’s best friend, since the dawn of time, coaches have had there favourite little crawlers, who get given umpteenth chances over other guys who get once chance and make one mistake and are never seen again. It’s political as hell, young Stapleton that got injured, I hope he’s ok by the way , he got dropped by chops two years ago because he was a god awful footballer, his old man gets on the board tips in a bit of cash and low and behold he’s training with first grade on a train and trial.Aj kepoa not up to top grade standard but he will keep getting chances due hartigan. Although that being said , it Looks like we got a few goodens in Laurie , Simpkin and Simpkins, but in my opinion we have some duds..........cini, kepoa, hoffman( he’s the most over rated of the lot, absolutely blessed this bloke), Fitzgibbon seen him in two trials looks way over hyped to me, madden wouldn’t have resigned him.

WOW, a tad harsh. Wasn't the best junior in Qld but made great strides as he grew into his body to rep Qld U18. Still developing and could end up in the back row. Coming back from a serious injury that set back his pre-season. Now being played out of position on the wing.
