Morris in the running for Origin return

BULLDOGS centre Josh Morris is in line to make his return to the State of Origin arena for the first time since 2009 after injuries to game two star William Hopoate, game one star Michael Jennings and early season favourite Chris Lawrence.
The 24-year-old flyer missed last year's series through injury and again was overlooked for games one and two of this year's series after spending six weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.
But with coach Ricky Stuart's first two options out of contention and Manly centre Jamie Lyon's appeal not to be selected in 2011 after missing the deadline to withdraw from the selection frame earlier this year, Morris shapes as the logical replacement.
On a dry track at ANZ Stadium today against the Sharks, Morris is hoping to press his case for selection.
''I'm not going to think about Origin too much because obviously I have to think about getting the win for the Dogs, but hopefully I can play some good football these next two weeks and I'll be in the selectors' minds, obviously having experienced it before,'' Morris said yesterday.
''I was injured last year during the Origin series so it's no skin off my nose that injuries are a part of rugby league and you have to deal with them.
''I haven't been in touch with Ricky so far this year, so I've just got to try and play good for the Doggies and get some good form up, and maybe having that previous experience there can help me.
''I'm getting back to my sharpness and the acceleration is back. So with a dry tack tomorrow, I'm looking forward to going out there and hopefully getting in the clear and getting a try.
''Obviously Chris Lawrence went down, then I was injured, then Jennings and now Hopoate - it's a bit funny, that position for NSW.''
Morris suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament in round one against the Wests Tigers, but after more than a month back training and playing with the full-time squad, he said he was nearing full strength.
''I've been training full-time with the boys, but I've still been managing the knee when it gets a bit sore to make sure it's right for game day,'' he said.
''This is my sixth or seventh game back and it's out of my head now. It's starting to feel really good. At the start my take-off speed was affected, but I feel now like it's pretty much back.
''The fitness is good and the injury was in the back of my mind the first couple of weeks. It was a matter of getting used to it and seeing what I could do with it. But now it's not even in my mind. So hopefully on a dry track tomorrow, I can showcase my speed and my skills out there.''
**Apart from Morris, Wests Tigers young speedster Blake Ayshford could be the only other option for NSW with Jennings sidelined for four more weeks.**
