Number 9s

McIllrick and Liddell both had good games today, but why take 2 number 9s into the game at the expense of fresh big men? Robbie played 80 mins. Cameron Smith plays 80 mins. Choose only one Number 9 and add one of the young props to the bench.

With Ballin hanging around as well that means we are rostering 3 to replace one 33 year old??? So paying 4 altogether. And I don't think any of the three can do a decent grubber kick in goal, I don't know about their field goal potential.

You forgot just plain ole general kicking Byron. So over the bombs!!! And how bout an early kick also on 3rd and fourth and pin oppositions in their quarter.

Liddle did nothing special and got trampled in defence a couple of times,Mcllwrick is solid but some of his passes are ordinary which is a worry.

Yup noticed them too …brooks n moses had balls above their heads to catch and then kick.....suppose it all comes down to tiredness but still.

Obviously Mcllwrick can't go 80, I reckon have JLJ on the bench at least he can cover other positions and can defend. He could of covered Brooks when he went off.

Liddle was awful IMO, his passes were terrible and I didn't see any spark there at all.

Having Liddle and Edwards on the bench is asking for trouble. Too small too ineffective.

The best passing going on yesterday was Johns, filter and a young kid on the sidelines at half time

Also the passing just before half time when we scored but it was called an obstruction.

If we can take Edwards and Liddle off the the bench and replace them with two big forwards i think we'll solve the fatigue problem and give our forward pack more punch during the 30-60 minute mark.

The only one I can think of is Felise and our genius coaches have basically told him he is a state cup player!
We will lose him to another club where he will make his mark!

That is likely to happen, if not this year or the next.

I'd like to have McIlwrick be the only hooker in the 17\. If he needs a rest move Elijah Taylor to hooker for 15 minutes and then get him back on. Liddle may be good later on but i think he needs a few more games under his belt in state cup. A lot of the guys played with passion today but the thing for me that was obvious is that we are serious lacking in football smarts. Something the Storm 9 has in buckets full. I hate the guy and it annoys me that he gets away with his dirty tactics but he is smart. Be nice to have a smart hooker who had a kicking game…..

Why can't he play 80 minutes? I'm confused. A lot of other Hookers do it but for some reason ours need a break. Why?

Not all hookers can last 80 and still be effective. Of the hookers that played on the weekend Peter Wallace, Andrew Mccullogh, Michael Lichaa, Cameron Smith and Issac Luke were the only ones to play the full 80\. Some of the others only needed a ten minute rest but others more. I agree it would be great if we could pick one hooker and have him play the full 80 but it is the most physically demanding position on the field and if they need a quick break then get them off for a spell. The reason why our hookers are likely to need more of a break would be due to the forwards not being aggressive enough in defence which lets the opposition forwards run harder and they target the hookers to get their tackle counts up and tire them out.

I must have been at a different game: I thought Liddle was terrific. His service from dummy half was crisp and got the team moving forward. I really hope he becomes a regular member of the NRL team. We need him.

Yes.

Hard to be too critical of liddle's game when basically our pack was being mauled again and we didn't have the ball. I thought he was ok. But we also need three 80m back rowers.
My understanding was Felipe had a shoulder injury and is being brought back slowly….he is only 20 or something.

He missed a couple of tackles but he also chopped a few big players down. Considering it's his 2nd game and he was supposed to be getting match fitness in reserve grade, it was a decent showing.

Sheer, I don't think our coaches have told Felise that he's only a state cup player. He missed a lot of the off season with shoulder surgery (something I've just had myself) and to me it's plain he has been told that he needs to play state cup to regain fitness before he's considered for firsts.

Liddle so far has reminded me of Cherrington. Only smaller. He might turnout to be ok. But we're so quick to talk these blokes up, the same as we did with the halves. Cherrington was going to be the be all and end all as far as hookers were concerned, but he was terrible in defence. Liddle didn't look like being first grade standard at this time anyway., maybe in the future.
