NYC Team Announcement: Round 24

With Martin, yes we had an option on him but we don't know what the offer was from the Panthers. I'd say it was substantially more especially with 8 or 9 clubs chasing him. Look at the Broncos with their young half Taylor. Also, with clubs and player managers we don't know what deal was done. Perhaps the Panthers now owe us and we may come calling for one of their very good young talents.

As for Martin being better than Moses, we will have to see. I like both but rate Moses more highly.

Great win.

As mentioned I reckon next year Kharwin can push to take Richards' spot next year. He's physically ready.

I'm sure Martin is going to be a star, just hope Moses and Brooks get there as well.

Alofi though has to be the worst fullback I've seen in nyc. Makes costly mistakes every week.

I've said it before, Martin is all class and a player I predict will be a representative footballer. He has all the skills and the composure to be a future captain. Also, I agree that he has excellent defensive technique, especially front on, including against bigger, heavier forwards. I was extremely disappointed that he was let go…...

Kharwin won't be winger next year dispite his cult following. Seve would be in front of him who there playing at wing now. There some good prospects there. Masters and sirro look good. Marshall king goes good too. And yes loosing Martin for a couple of holy cross kids is a travesty.

Lol no space for an 85k option that sits in NSW cup… It's called having halves depth. I guarantee that Jack Littlejohn is going to be in the top squad because if he isn't and one of our halves go down in round one we'll ruin our second tier salary cap. If he's in our top squad that means that he'll be earning exactly the same amount or more than Te Maire Martin would have cost us because he would have cost us MINIMUM WAGE. We could have just kept him and activated the option on him instead of signing Littlejohn.

The main problem is that he is better than Brooks and Moses. He is, plain and simple, better than them both.

The thing about him is, you can just tell his style will translate to the adult game. He doesn't standout at NYC because of the level of the NYC, he stands out because he has a complete game, he compliments the players around him and they him and his three dimensional threat makes each individual skill magnified because;

a) His ability to put his forwards through holes causes defenders to lay off him, opening up his running game.
b) His running game causes defenders to rush up on him to try to shut him down which opens holes for his ball runners.
c) His kicking game is almost the best in NYC to boot.

Like, he's the most no brainer superstar in the making I've ever seen. The way he's looked in NYC is ten times anything Brooks and Moses showed at the level. The only possible knock on him is his size, his actual defensive technique is really good and better than both Brooks and Moses.

He's a better passer than both, a better runner than both and is at least as good a general play kicker as both. How anyone can dispute it is beyond me.

In pre-season the way he links with guys like Cartwright and Dean Whare is going to have Clearly and Gould juicing from their loins.

The proof will be in the pudding and he will show us in the long run that this makes the decision to let Fifita, Koro etc. go pales in comparison to this one.

Fair enough but I heard the same stuff about Brooks and Moses 2 years ago from many pundits.

To say he's better than Brooks and Moses, well maybe he is, but he is playing against kids right now. If we made a mistake by over-rating Brooks and Moses, you could be doing the same thing again with Martin.

I don't think Brooks and Moses are exactly overrated. I think they are both rated fairly, they both showed huge potential and neither are broken by any means. They're both still extremely young.

I think at the same stage of their development that Te Maire Martin has shown more a more thorough set of talents and talents that suit NRL level football more. His game is more about making those around him look excellent, whereas both Brooks and Moses have always been chip and chase, dummy and run, try scoring halves.

I genuinely expect that if Penrith put a good side around him, he'll walk into the NRL and be dominant from day 1\. His defense will be tested and getting hit by guys like Dylan Napa will hurt, but he's a tough little bugger.

OK but let's re-visit this if (when) he gets his chance.

I believe at Martin's current age now, Brooks and Moses were both in first grade. Martin has only played 1 NSW Cup game. But I think he has been brought along nicely. I'm a big fan of all three.

Here is the Shark NYC report but it is the photo which pleases me. I'd like to see a lot of this in the NRL next year!

This on top of other recent posts show an alarming amount of ignorance. I've probably been martin's biggest fan for the past 3 years but there's no way he's even at the same level that Brooks and Moses were at at the same time.

Both Brooks and Moses dominated more at NYC level than Martin has. This season martin has been very inconsistent, more so than Brooks and Moses were, his kicking game has been atrocious at certain times, and his defence non existent at others. Moses has by far the best defensive technique of the three.

At other times his passing game has been superb. But Brooks and Moses setup more tries, scored more tries and kicked more 40/20's than Martin has. That's why they moved up a grade much faster.

Yes i wish we re-signed Martin as a backup, but we didn't. Broncos didn't keep Taylor as a backup either. He had a contract which they released him from.

There is a massive difference between NYC and NRL. I think Martin will make it, but still has a lot of work to do. Having a more balanced and experienced squad will help him though. Having Soward do most of the work will enable him to just chip in here and there, if he gets his chance. No certainty when competing with Soward, Wallace, Moylan, Docker Clay and Panther's own juniors.

Kharwin could definitely be in the NRL side come round 1\. Really not many infront of him on the wings. Sirro will be even better after a full off season, as will Felise and Tatola.

Marsters looks like a great 2nd row option too. Makes good metres and offloads a lot, good offloads too not the crap we usually see from our drongos. Playing Seve on the right wing is criminal though.

have seen kharwin in a few NYC games this season and i reckon he has plenty of speed and strength to be up to f/g next season. ink mentioned his attitude earlier but with a bit of strong guidance he might be a future good'un for the tigers

has been in the same trouble as lodge, but gee look at the good job our club has done with lodge, going on the record kharwin will be doing 10-20 in long bay with the clubs guidance.

i know that it is probably wishful thinking about the club having and developing a strong culture BP. But hey, these guys are young and will need a rocket from time to time from senior players and coaches to keep them and / or get back on track.

Lol Te Maire Martin is possibly the most talented young half I have LITERALLY EVER SEEN and we let him walk because we didn't want to activate an 85k option.

This is going to really really really really bite us. OMG.

I think you and i were most vocal on this. The kid is a star, just has these touches kids his age dont have.

That's what happens when you have the majority of the board made up of astute business people with no football knowledge. And all this crap about you can't hold him back is a furphy - we had an option under the contract and had every right to take it. we could have quite easily upgraded his contract with the money we are wasting on Lovett. And yes in 2017 he may well have walked or maybe we would have seen what a star he is and offered him a more realistic contract. This why the top sides are where they are - they don't let obvious talent walk away. Thanks Marina for your ignorance.

Comparing Martin to Lovett is harsh, one is an immensely talented young half largely untested against anything other than kids, the other is a serviceable reserve grader learning to play to an NRL-standard. What happens if we keep Martin, lose Lovett, then Martin goes the next year?

I don't understand the blame for Go either, I doubt she'd have anything to do with the playing list, wasn't in essentially Phill Moss' job description?

There are plenty of Lovetts running around in NSW cup. The blame for Go stems from the original article about Martin leaving where it stated that the football dept was overruled by the board.

To be fair to Lovett (I know he hasn't set the world on fire) when I saw him in person at Leichhardt medical centre with his missus he looked very very very young. He isn't overly big either. i would say the same applies for Santi; Sue; Moses; Lodge etc
