Wests Tigers Official website:

Wests Tigers lead Penrith 20-10 at the first break in the opening NYC trial match of 2014.

Wests Tigers opened their season against last year's premiers Penrith in 35 degree heat in Camden with a side featuring a host of familiar names.

Two of those familiar faces combined to open the scoring in just the second minute, with Mitchell Moses throwing a brilliant cutout pass to winger Delouise Hoeter who crossed in the right corner.

Five-Eighth Mitchell Moses missed the sideline conversion.

Moses missed the kick from the sideline in what was expected to be the only attempted conversion of the afternoon, with both coaches appearing to agree to keep the game flowing.

Penrith were off to a horrible start, kicking out on the full from the restart, and they were immediately made to pay.

Former Keebra Park centre and Schoolboy player of the year Marion Seve took a nice pass to skip by his man with ease, before offloading to Hoeter who had his second of the afternoon after just five minutes.

Penrith managed to get themselves back in the game, but the Wests Tigers' try line wasn't troubled.

Seve was on the scoresheet himself as Wests Tigers capitalised on a penalty, Moses again working the right side of the field to combine with fullback Sione Alofi who sent his centre into the corner.

That gave the home side a 12-0 after as many minutes.

Penrith were ruining any chance of competing in the game, giving away penalties that allowed Wests Tigers to dominate field position and possession.

Second rower Salesi Funaki kept the momentum up in the 17th minute, producing a brilliant flicked offload to Mitchell Moses who showed his trademark dancing feet to cruise under the posts from close range.

Wests Tigers kept up the onslaught in the 19th minute, left winger John Ogden finishing a break to stretch the lead to 20.

It looked like Penrith would never trouble the scorers, but winger Solofa Silifa managed to capitalise on a run of possession for the Panthers, crossing out wide on the left.

Interestingly, Penrith chose to take their conversion after Wests Tigers had previously denied theirs, which would leave the score at 20-6 after 22 minutes.

Penrith would score again just before just before the first break, which would come at 30 minutes in this trial, left centre Akeripa Tiakilifi crashing through Mitchell Moses from close range.

Penrith chose not to take their conversion to leave the score at 20-10.
