Officiating this year

Is it just me or is this year the worst officiating ever?

There is no consistency in the use of sin bin or send off.

Referees seemingly cannot judge forward passes.

The bunker screws up regularly despite 15 angles and unlimited replays.

Every week the failed politician Annesley comes out to justify bad decisions, but the media in attendance can’t take over the screen to show the same play being interpreted differently.

Every week you see the same tackle. Someone gets sent off, another is binned, others are put on report whilst others are ignored.

The NRL is a rank amateur competition. Compared to NFL& AFL it is a joke. The game will be dead within a decade

LM O a few weeks back against St G.the ref was doing his best 2 help the game flow.but no.a linesperson stuck their bib in twice,lol.1st time 1 of those influeced a out come since winfeild sponsored the comp

There is a definite bias against the lower ranked teams….WT never get the rub of the “green”. The NRL are afraid to admit the officiating is the biggest problem in the game
totally agree , honest is honest, not hard to fix .you missed a good tigers team if you didnt see our last /only ref - sweet spot

The bunker needs to go.
It has provided too much of a crutch for the on field guts which means refs don’t have to back their opinions anymore, as it’ll be checked for them.

The set restarts need to go.
They happen so quickly, no one really knows why they were awarded. Does anyone actually check if they were warranted? It seems an easy avenue to manipulate games.

Touch judges need to get involved more. They seem nothing more than window dressing currently who confirm when a goal is kicked.

The six agains are a perfect invention by the NRL, enabling the refs to manipulate the run of play.
Just a thought on the reason that teams at the bottom of the table get screwed. I think maybe it’s because of the gambling industry’s influence on the outcome. They are sponsors of the game, and they pay advertising $$$ to broadcasters, so they hold a lot of sway. When the weak teams play the favourites the odds against them winning are big and so the payouts for an upset will be big.
Maybe there is just too much money involved and gambling companies shouldn’t be allowed to have any direct involvement in the game nor should they be allowed to advertise during games.

There is a bias against the bottom teams .Whether its an unconscious one or a conscious one .I leave that up to you .Raiders Got 2 tries from forward passes yesterday that's a fact
The first try in the 2nd half was so blatant and with a touch judge standing right in line I can only assume he felt intimidated by the Canberra bench nearby ?
Annessleys technique is to hand pick a couple of weekend events that were genuinely
50/50 calls and discuss them at length .Avoid the events that are straight out really bad calls

There's an extremely clear bias, we've been dudded a few times the last 2 years.
I just don't get how you can have a bunker, access to cameras and still, still make mistakes, it's wilful incompetence.

It turns people away from the game and the people running the NRL don't seem to care. I used to watch a lot of games, now I barely even watch when we play. It's just pointless when we don't get the fair rub of the green and there's a number of other teams in the same boat.

It is disgraceful in the extreme because different clubs seem to be refereed by their position on the ladder as compared to the performance that they display on the field if that performance is different to what the media expects. This does not just apply to us but to most teams that the betting industry/media expect to lose.Still what can you expect from a man who used to run the trotting industry involved in our game and an ex failed LNP politician running the referees.
It is possible it is all just coincidence but there has been the smell of bias involved in our game for many decades, this is far from recent but it does not seem to be disappearing which i and many others hoped for when Turdberg got sacked

I watch a lot of NFL games and can tell you the officiating is terrible in that sport as well… have a look at the AFC Championship game last year and even in the Super Bowl there was an incorrect pass interference call near the end of the game that ruined a potential exciting finish

AFL I never watch so can’t comment there.

Before the bunker ,there were crook refereeing decisions, of course.
As spectators, you had a grumble but the game went on.
The over analysis of whether a try is a try is just so irritating. Just say yes or no and get on with it.
Through over analysis of the play ,they have created their own monster.
At the same time, how the sebastian kris try wasn't called back on two different counts is a mystery.

The referee could give six agains to every team when attacking in the opposition's 20. They pick and choose when and how many times at their own discretion - it's a rubbish rule that gives the referee too much influence over the game.

Agreed and not only could it possibly/probably decide who wins a close game it is not challengable on the field
