Officiating this year

Simple solution, let bunker rule on forward passes . They check offside from kicks so what’s the hassle in checking that as well.
Takes it out of onfield officials hands so preventing any thought of bias .

problem is that the bunker makes incorrect calls too..

Ive never been a refs fault guy

However this year has been the worst ive seen in bias against 'bad teams'

Weve been crap for a decade but Ive never felt that weve been as effected by dud calls like we have this year

If anyone saw the Roosters manly game (20 penalties and similar 6 to goes) and then the following game that was the complete opposite... Just highlites the reffing inconsistencies
Also Kasey Badger clearly just a token female in the bunker she is absolutely disgraceful

The problem with this is that the ball goes forward but it goes backwards out of the hands. You'd still think they could do better. Some of those passes yesterday were miles forward and you'd have to be blind to miss them. I have no idea what the on field refs were thinking.

Get rid of the bunker. The bloke who invented it has already said it was never meant to be used this way.

It is used purely to satisfy their gambling sponsors and to assure people that the game isn't rigged. But you'll be never be able to make everyone happy.

Far as I'm concerned, no referee should be needed to stop Seb Kris running 60 metres around 7 of our players nor would a good or bad ref stop Brooks, Laurie or Api kicking the ball dead. Maybe IPaps should do the grubbers from now on!

This.

They used to have the bunker adjudicate on forward passes, but scrapped it because the available camera angles do not always align on the sidelines to see if the ball travelled backwards out of the hands before travelling forward.

Im not sure if technology has changed to provide this info now? maybe they could continually have a drone filming directly above the ball which may be able to determine whether the ball is passed back out of the hands?

Yes this would be a huge help , Forward passing now is very common and I feel some coaches are pushing it if you can get away with it , dummy half’s are flat passing or forward passing and first receiver is worse

Last year the bullshit call against the cowboys literally gave us the spoon. I'd be interested to see how many games bad officiating has cost us this year. How many times has Annesley come out monday and apologised for a stupid call that cost us the game? I'd bet there is at least 3. Thats enough to move us off the bottom again. And god knows what may have happened with the confidence added had we got those wins as the year went on. It could literally make for a very different season and we could be fighting for finals right now instead of already having given up. It's been happening way too often and for too long to be a coincidence. Is this payback for threatening to sue the NRL over the blatant cheating against the cowboys last year???
I'm very very close to calling time on the game all together.

No accountability of what is essentially (and has been for years) a boy's club, I am afraid. The only thing I have against the technology (in general) is its (im)perfectness - using football (of the round ball kind, as an example) a player can be ruled offside by a just a few cm.
On the other hand, in tennis, I've never seen it make a bad call on a ball out/in.
In any case, as mentioned by others, serving a different master to what was intended.

The six agains are a perfect invention by the NRL, enabling the refs to manipulate the run of play.
Just a thought on the reason that teams at the bottom of the table get screwed. I think maybe it’s because of the gambling industry’s influence on the outcome. They are sponsors of the game, and they pay advertising $$$ to broadcasters, so they hold a lot of sway. When the weak teams play the favourites the odds against them winning are big and so the payouts for an upset will be big.
Maybe there is just too much money involved and gambling companies shouldn’t be allowed to have any direct involvement in the game nor should they be allowed to advertise during games.
I don't think there is corruption from the gambling companies. The weaker team may have longer odds but the punters are betting on the stronger team. Usually the betting companies would be paying out more on a favourites win. It is all the exotics betting, upsets and multis that bring in the revenue for the betting companies.

I don't ever recall the bunker ruling on forward passes

There was a year or two when they did and there was alot of controversy.
Incidentally it wouldnt have saved us yessteday any way.
The bunker could have called it a knockon as the ball hit the ground but chose not to.

I hate to blame Refs for the performances / results, however I agree that the lesser sides tend to get screwed when the 50-50 decisions are made. Whilst yesterday we had two tries scored off forward passes against us, Brooks was offside in our last try which was a square up.

The blatant bias is unacceptable and whilst the officials can and do make mistakes the ability to check on the cameras should at the very least allow the correct decision be made. I do not think I have ever seen a worse decision than the Cowboys game last year and even to a lesser degree this year in their route of us they were given some dubious calls to get to 74. I accept we need to get better as a team but we cant beat 14 on the field.

Just on these forward passes yesterday that “lost” us the game…
Their first try we failed to defend against Wightons chip kick. It took a horrible bounce. Unlucky.
Their second try had a questionable pass on tackle one. Tackle 2 they scored due to very poor defence by Api and Seyfarth. The forward pass may have been missed, but it wasn’t the reason they scored. We played to the whistle, effected the tackle on play 1, lined up and missed two tackles on play 2. Poor defence caused that try.
Their third try is the contentious one. Yes there was a probable forward pass that hit the ground. However the ref called play on and we let a player go on a run of around 60 meters, beating 5 defenders in a swerving run to score. The forward pass gave no immediate advantage. We had the men still in play to shut the movement down and they all tried to. Bad miss by the touchie for sure, even worse misses by our defenders.
Their fourth try looked fine to me.

I actually thought Noffa may have been in front of Api for our second try and I’m sure Brooksie was in front of him for our third.

Point being, refs are human and mistakes are made. All players are taught to play to the whistle. Our blokes didn’t give up on the plays that led to tries 2 & 3 from Canberra, they just weren’t good enough to stop them. That’s the bigger problem. Blaming the forward passes is an excuse, not a reason for why those tries were scored.

It felt like our game was just full of square ups after the 1st missed forward pass ....it was shocking for both sides

Brooks was a metre offside when we got awarded that try .....can't believe they didn't watch it again lol 😆
