Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter says he is comfortable with his position at the club despite speculation he could be shown the door just one season into his tenure.
The Tigers' third loss in a row has led to rumblings at the club that Potter will not be coach of the club next year, with suggestions that club powerbrokers had been eyeing off replacements. Trent Barrett's name has been mentioned by club officials, while Matt Parish and David Kidwell are others believed to have some support.
Potter said on Wednesday night he was ''comfortable with what I've been doing, and what we're doing''. ''I know the results haven't been what we want them to be, and there are various reasons for that,'' he said. ''I haven't heard these whispers but we're sitting down at the lower end of the ladder, and that sort of speculation happens, doesn't it?''
Tigers officials had previously flagged a review of the coaching structure for next season but until recently it was not believed the head coach's role was at stake.

That said, any decision around Potter, who was signed on a two-year deal, is complicated by the fact that his predecessor, Tim Sheens, is still being paid by the Tigers. Asked about Potter's future, chief executive Grant Mayer said: **''Mick Potter has got a contract for 2014.''**
It is believed Potter had raised any concerns with players during a training session several weeks ago, having heard rumours of discontent. But he was adamant that club officials had not raised the prospect of his position being under threat.
''Everyone's disappointed with losing our last three games,'' Potter said. ''But no one's come to me and said anything that's untoward or hinting at anything.
''I'm there for another year. That's for you guys to sniff around for stories. Sometimes they're right and sometimes they're wrong. It's out of my control.''

i thought glenn jackson was a good journalist. at least he has SOME quotes there even though they go against the story

Questions will always be asked of underperforming coaches. Potter was a last minute signing for 2 years on a low contract, only natural people would begin to talk.

Would be stupid to punt him now though, after the year we had, with the injuries, board troubles, financial issues, cap issues and player issues, Potter needs to be given time to affect real change.

Its a process, not an instant change.

Forget the article.

We are a business. Getting rid of Potter would be an insanely risky and stupid decision. Not only would it mean ANOTHER bloody person on our payroll doing sweet-stuff-all for us, but it would mean we just wasted a whole one, possibly two, years. Fans are prepared to give a coach time to settle, to implement his style and show the direction we are heading. People can only wait so long. Less fans = less money = less business.

These articles are dumb.

God if he is under the pump now,he will be in all sorts trouble mid next year, because it's hard to see us climbing to far up the ladder till 2015.I would have thought Mayer is backing him,so that is half the battle won

Losing my enjoyment of rugby league lately because there is some much emphasis on performance and results. There are teams who will resort to illegal means in a "win at all costs" attitude. Rugby league is a sport to enjoy no matter where your team is on the ladder. On the other hand journalism is business and without sensational dramatic stories their is no business. . .

I'm not buying into this. We cannot afford to pay 2 coaches out while hiring a 3rd.

**''Mick Potter has got a contract for 2014.''**

So does Tim Sheens and look where he is….!

This quote by Mayer doesn't instill any confidence that Potter's job is safe...

Why couldn't Mayer come out with a statement like:

**"Potter's role is also under review for 2014" or
"Potter will definitely be our coach for 2014"**

To come out with such a politically correct statement as he did is unlike Mayer to-date...

Terrible move if they punt Mick...if we are going like busted's next year this time OK...but not now!.

I agree if we dump potter we are a rabble.

We are already rabble

I for one an not convinced on Potter at all. He's made some glaringly stupid decisions throughout the year and on the field it seems like we have no gameplan whatsoever.

Injures are one thing, sure, but what injured players apart from Galloway would have made a big difference? In many ways the injuries allowed us to bring in some young players who have now proven themselves first graders.

1\. Honour the contract and start building some respect back into our culture
2\. There is not a coach out there who is available and is substantially lower risk

Do the right thing Tiges!

X 2 We can't afford to pay the sacked coach we already have , why would we sack another

Probably find Mayer sometimes gets sick of the questions in regards to Potter

If true - this is interesting. If you lose the playing group then you're finished.

I am not sure Potter will be here in 2014

I hope we keep this guy. He has inherited a mess and is getting us out of it. I'll be worried if Braith is in the team next year assuming he keeps playing the way he has but that is really my only concern at this point.

If they geniuses that supposedly run this club decide Potter has to go, they will be flat out getting another coach who is any good. Who would want to come to a club run by nervous nellies who will punt you so that they can create the illusion of being proactive and forward looking? After all, they agreed with previous management over Sheens contract. Stick with Potter, because he is the only one there (Mayer, perhaps) who knows what he is doing, and he has a mile of decency and character.

He's had to put up with Sheens' mess this year, as well as deal with a crippling injury toll, blooding so many youngsters, a player who spat the dummy when benched and dragged a saga out to make the headlines and for everyone to feel sorry for him, disrupting the club in the process. These are just some of the things Potter's had to deal with this year. If there's a coach out there that could do ALOT better, then ill be damned! Joke of an article, he shouldn't be going anywhere. Give him a year with his own structure, his own coaching staff, then see what the man can do! He's invested heavily into the future and dismantled the boys club. The Tigers Management should be kissing his feet for that… Dopes

Sorry. What first grade club do you coach to have an educated experienced opinion on whether potter is a good coach or not.

Is Potter the fall guy..the guy that made the hard choices that nobody else at the club had the guts to do . Getting rid of Marshall is the key to all of this IMO they wanted him gone and had to find someone to do it! I,m not sold on Potter have been very disappointed with the last 3 performances as I put this down to attitude or the lack of ,seems there is no motivation at all considering how important they were. I would not be all surprised that there is someone else in the wings waiting for the nod as the dirty work has been done.
