On the market for a “vintage jersey”

Gday all, as the title suggests, I’m looking for an older Balmain jersey. There’s a ton online but my only query is and I am young so forgive me if this sounds clueless but why are they all 3 quarter length sleeves ? Did we not have any short sleeve jerseys back then ?

I have an old Balmain jersey “Saxonvale Wine” it has long sleeves, I’m unsure of what year it is from.
Someone on here might have a better memory than me.

I’m a fan of the 3 quarter sleeves and collar! I wish we did a retro round every year! Would be prettt cool to get west’s tigers retro jersey! Looks great when you wear them out even casually compared to the tight jerseys.

Im not sure when the short sleeves came in, but they were all 3/4 sleeves through until at least '93 as far as I recollect. I went overseas to live after that and lost track of all things league for a long time. My guess would be early 2000s. I think I recall Brisbane had the first tight fitting jerseys or I at least remember seeing their players trying them on.

When I was about 12 I had a 1967 or 1968 Balmain jersey which back in those days had a bit of a collar, long sleeves and they were a clean skin with no sponsors on it at all.

Loved that jersey and wore it until it fell to pieces and all I have left of it to this day is the old faded tiger patch which I took a photo of and am currently using as my avatar.

Around 10 years ago my daughter bought me a replica 1969 Balmain jersey which is one of my prized possessions, and unfortunately you can't seem to get those any more.

What really puzzles me is that every man and his dog has a replica 1989 Philips 3/4 sleeve jersey and they are still available around the place. (my son actually has one but really wanted a replica 1969 jersey)

Granted, the 1989 Grand Final was one of the great Grand Finals, but we lost. You would think there would be a bit of a market for the 1969 replica jersey especially seeing as how we were underdogs and beat Souffs and it was the last Grand Final the Balmain Tigers won.

I’m not necessarily looking for tight fitting, just short sleeves. Only one I ever come across is a 2000 west tigers jersey that has the collar.

Yeah the 89 3/4 is the one that’s on just about every website. Was hoping I could find something different so I’m not every man or his dog

Yeah, I probably wasn't too clear. My thoughts were that they went to short sleeve when the tight fitting shirts came in - or not... I don't know. I guess not if you found one in 2000 with short sleeves that was lose fitting.

The 2000 jersey looks good, planning to get one soon, just need to figure out sizing for the retro jerseys. I’m an XL in the normal jerseys but I don’t wear them tight, probably a size up.
