Ongoing Selection of Daniel Fitzhenry?

I love to tune in to the continuing saga of Fitzy. I do hope he is NOT going to be physically harmed, or "mentally" harmed if he is reading any of these "blogs".
 
I don't mind Fitzy. He has made a few mistakes in the past few games where he has actually run on, but he has hardly had any game time since the start of the season. Unfortunately, if I were in his position, I would also feel as though I would have to keep chancing my hand to warrant keeping my spot in the run on side.

The problem I have is having a back, Fitzy, on the bench playing 5 minutes when we have Fulton and Flanagan who can play in the backs. If we had 4 forwards against the dogs, all playing decent minutes, the guys wouldn't have been so tired at the back end of the game. That way, you don't have blokes like Fitzy making the run on side without game time, even if it is in State Cup.

Sheens is the reason for this attitude to Fitzy. I feel sorry for Fitz (who bleeds black and gold). I'm sure he doesn't want to be in this position. Remove the back from the bench and this all goes away…

Totally agree,but Sheens would then find his favourite a spot in the run on side,I feel Ron's pain and I too have had enough of his continual unwarranted selection. :angry:
 
I've always respected his efforts but he seems to be below even his average standard this season.

That said I've seen nothing in Brown or Daniella to warrant them getting the nod over him.

If Tuiaki is still out for a significant period (over 6 weeks) then I'd be looking at what other options we have. Maybe Brown and Daniella both deserve another go but I'd be very happy to see Pritchard given a run.

Alternatlively we move Ayshord to wing and play another centre in Davis or even Flanagan or Taumata. Then theres the option of moving Ryan back to wing and look at fullback options.

Atm I'd pick Pritchard and on the wing and see how he goes. If that fails then I'd really consider putting Ryan back on the wing and playing Taumata or Lazarus at fullback.

I draw refernce to Todd Carney move from the halves to fullback. I still think Taumata could be a suprise at the back.
 
Yeah I am remiss to move Ryan but the prospect of Arana there is appealing
 
I fully endorse Tims decision to use Fitzy in the 17.

Thanks goodness Tim picks the team each week and not the "Forum Geniuses" that recommended Lazo at half back last week. That was a very un-Tim Sheens like selection and shows that he is letting people get in his ear.

If Lui and Taumata were out for the rest of the season for arguements sake, I would pick Lazarus all year.

He is a natural halfback, something we haven't had since Scott Prince left.

For years we have whinged and moaned about Sheens manufacturing a halfback, he finally decides this year to pick a #7 in #7 and then replace an injured #7 with another #7 and you are still complaining.

Maybe you'd like John Morris back at half? Or any other spastic we've tried to play there for four years?

By the way ..... I'd watch how you use the label "spastic" ..... that may be offensive to some fans who use this forum.

The kid has played four State Cup games in two years and already after a single game of first grade you're telling us he's not good enough.

When you miss two years of football you're not going to be in peak form or at peak weight, are you genius?

You also haven't offered a suggestion of who you would have chosen to play halfback instead of Lazarus?
 
Judging a player off of one game is a pretty silly way to approach analysis. Hell in the analysis of statistical data he didn't even get enough touches to be able to calculate an average outcome.

I make no bones that I am a fan of Lazarus. I also believe it is a bit harsh to judge his in a side where every playmaker was bad.

I have posted this elsewhere but we have to remember that tha halfback and his option are out. These are the two players who spent the majority of the summer in that position for the pre season. Arana was run as a 5/8 alot of the time and Blake was used in opposition work alot. Give a weeks training if selected in the 7 and than judge his performance

You couldn't have read what I wrote last week when I challenged his selection and thats Ok because I don't read everything you write either.. The very reasons you justify him are the very reasons I suggested he shouldn't be picked. Four state cup games in two years is hardly what you want from your "permanent" first grade half back no matter how great he is. He is not exactly the most robust looking half back I have ever seen either.

If Tim goes with Lazarus again for the Penrith match then I don't think we have much hope. Fulton to pivot and Benji to half would have been a better option.

There is no way Benji would be shifted to #7 after the disaster of last year (more so due to the media pressure it would cause more than anything else) and Fulton WOULD NOT be a better option.

You really think moving our best defender one wider of the ruck is a smart idea? Honestly. :brick:

Ever since Prince left Sheens has tried to manufacture a halfback which has been a complete and utter FAILURE. Finally he does what he should have done three years ago and pick a proper halfback to replace a halfback (Moltzen, Lui and now Lazarus) yet you want him to go back to manufacturing one? Seriously?

And the forwards and bench selection will determine whether we win against Penrith this week, not the halfback spot.
 
Benji practically plays half back anyway …....... sorry HT we're not going to agree on this one. You reckon Lazo is the answer I don't, I reckon Liam/Benji - you don't ....... thats cool I can live with that. Maybe when Lui is fit we might agree on something.

I didn't say he's the answer. Is he the answer long term? The jury is out. I would not be writing him off after one game though, a game where we were camped on our own tryline for 60% of the match and also fatigued from two bruising away trips.

My point is he is a halfback and as Lui (1st choice), Moltzen (2nd choice) and Taumata (3rd choice) were all unavailable last week, Lazarus (4th choice) was the only option. So it was not an incorrect decision to play him. An incorrect decision would have been to do what has failed for the last four years and play someone out of position there, and move two positions to cover one.

I for one was over the moon when he was chosen, purely because it seems to show me that Sheens has learnt something from his mistakes of the last few years.
 
I'm not writing Lazo off either HT ….... my point is he is not ready for first grade football at this moment. I think perservering with him may do more harm than good. I don't think he can play 80 mins, they seemed to be hiding him up in defense, he was indecisisive ...... its a massive ask to step up from State Cup and expect him to perform straight away at first grade level .... especially in such an important position as halfback. The fact he's only played a handful of games down there makes his selection even worse in my mind.

I understand the point you make about the "manufactured" half back. None of them have been a success - that we agree on. To me Lazo at half is a bigger risk than Liam/Benji in the halves but we agree to disagree on that.

The halves position is the biggest issue the club faces and if they don't get it right we'll probably miss out on the semis again this year.
 
He (Lazzo) needs to be eased in gradually off the bench, not when were under the pump with injurys to half our front row stock
Dont ask me who should be in 7 though, ive no idea
 
Yep, that and he more than likely wouldve been eased in sometime during these last 2 seasons when hes been out with the knee.

Just goes to show though, for all those calling for this player or that player from the Maggies or BRET, it isnt always that straightforward
