Opportunity wont present again

who cares, seasons done

maybe that was our only opportunity to make the 8\. even if it was, does it really matter? we would be sitting here right now in the exact same position anyway having been beaten last night by the broncos with almost certainty

teams fall down and do crap all the time 2016 was not some exception, except maybe the eels.

chooks finished 2nd last in 2012 as well - not really a big deal

if some teams do poorly, others do well (see the sharks raiders and maybe panthers)

Our list has potentially as much natural improvement as any other team, given the majority of our players are nearing 100 games. 100-200 games being where most players hit their peak. Sue, Moses, nofo showed signs they were on the way to become top line nrl players with more consistency needed. Needs guys like Simona, Kev, Ava, sirro, brooks, aioli need to step up to make us a legitimate top 4 team.

I see st George, Newcastle, Warriors being also rans. Dogs, Melbourne, Cowboys, could potentially drop out of the 8\. Roosters, Souths and parra should improve as mentioned. So it will be hard to win games just like every other year.

We'll win a premiership within the next 3 years.

I agree with the op but I also agree with this comment. We have a really good team. We need a couple of changes but even without those changes I think we should easily make the 8 next year.

Our problem is that you can get a bad year with some injuries to key players or something like that.

One team I see falling off the cliff next year is Canterbury.

They look cooked. Poor spine and slow backs. Forwards over rated.

We can't overpay or make bad decisions on contacts again like we have in the past and we will be in good shape.
Lose Brooks and Sirro and retain the important ones. Don't give contracts based on potential or hype.

with the Farah dramas behind us I see no reason why we can't challenge for the top 8 in 2017.

Thing is, the Farah situation isn't behind us because he will be taking up $750k of next season's cap while playing elsewhere. That's enough to buy a good young centre and a back rower. This means the next Bryce Cartwright, the next Tyson Frizzell out of Holden Cup will not be coming to the Tigers because they're spending the money on a bloke who's not even here any more.

The 750 is nothing more than speculation.

I agree GNR it's only paper talk, if you believe everything that journalists write then you aren't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Actually tiger torch confirmed and explained it and he has proven to consistently know what's going on.

When i think about the 2016 competition, i just cant see there being a better chance to make the 8 than this year. We had teams falling over all around us that wont do it again next year. To have a season where the Roosters, Rabbitohs and Manly were horrible, and Parramatta having points stripped, basically eliminated 4 teams that will finish higher than us next year. Throw in Saints, Newcastle and the Warriors who are all hopeless, that left just 9 teams competing for the top 8 and we couldnt get the job done.

Its scary to think that the above 4 teams (manly, parra, sths, roosters) will all improve on the ladder, while all top 8 teams seem as though they will maintain there level.

Looking at the Wests Tigers alone i agree with most that we improved, but when u look at other teams for 2017, it looks very scary to me.

We will never get another season with so many teams falling over.

Mate, with all due respect, if you think like this you might as well give up supporting the Tigers altogether. Based on your argument we might as well not show up in 2017 because we've lost already.
I don't buy it. If you can't see how much we've improved than you're on another planet. I for one am excited about next year and the future.

You must have missed the part of my post where i actually say i agree that we have improved. This post isnt so much a talking point about us and what we could do, cos we all know we could do anything. Its a post about other teams and how its unlikely so many will under achieve again in one season, making competition for the 8 harder than this year.

No point worrying about others…. No team shod ever do this.
Worry about ourselves.
An opportunity will present itself, it will be next season

The reason we didn't make the top 8 in 2016 is the team wasn't good enough. They did well to still be in it up to round 26\. We need some astute buying before we are a serious contender so as it stands next year won't be a lot different to this year.

Like saying Farah would be dropped from origin if we lost the first 2 games? Or that Taylor would be sacked halfway through the season if we weren't winning 50%?

I like his posts, but let's not pretend he's always right.

I seem to remember that at the start of the season, the Tigers were expected to be at the bottom of the table with the Titans and the Knights.

All the way through the season the sentiment on this forum seems to ebb and flow with the most recent game results. We win a couple at the start and things are looking great for the season. Then we lose a long streak (as was expected) and we're all calling for people to be sacked.

Then we look like getting into the 8 but falter at the end and our season and future prospects are bleak again.

I wish we could at least look positively to the future. There were good signs this year and we had good games against a couple of premiership heavyweights. Don't write off the Tigers now. They're building something here and there's a good chance the club will be very different in a couple of years.

Every year is a clear slate, but having got the disinfectant out to rid us uf the germ, I look forward to the opportunity that extra clean slate presents.
