Origin 2023

I had huge reservations about our back 5 when they were announced.
Walsh has been good this year but was an uknown at rep level and was going to face the best tactical kicker in the game punting for some of the best highball chasers in the game.
Taulagi and Cobbo are beasts but they have a lot of simple mistakes in them due to inexperience. Their opposites are very experienced and contain weapons of power and speed.
Hammer and Val were the biggest concern. They were selected to mark Latrell and Turbo. Two guys who on their day, could put the game out of reach in a ten minute spurt of ferocity. Additionally, neither of our blokes are renowned defensive centres. It would appear Billy's mentality here was fight fire with fire.

All up, it was a very brave selection of these 5 when more accomplished and experienced players were left at home. Hindsight is 20/20 and it turned out a master stroke. These guys were never troubled in defense and in attack they always looked likely to get through the NSW wall. The QLD staff who selected and prepared these guys d
Actually that is a huge call.

Walsh in -> Gagai out.

I strongly suspect Teddy looking crap and JAC being silent is the result of very good defense going unnoticed.

True about the D, to some extent, but I think Teddy definitely overplaying his hand and Fox suffering from what’s happening inside as much as his own situation.

Interesting to see Teddy and Fox let their footy do the talking today. Both back to something like their best.
I think we can safely shelve any more talk about them not playing in game 2.
And interesting to hear big Mal say, if there was a Test match this week, Teddy would be full back and captain.
Plus Fox would be first winger picked.
Next ……

Luai and Hynes would be a terrible pairing, it's gotta be Reynolds and Hynes or Reynolds and Walker, either way Reynolds needs to be in there.

Reynolds/Hynes combo would go nice. Walker as the utility.

Reynolds just has to be there IMO. Smarts, experience, Suncorp and great form. You just know you can rely on him to steer the team around and get you in good field position.

Gee Moses nailed his audition today !

Apparently none of the three you named will be there.

That looks like a pretty formidable side to me. Congrats to Stef if correct .

I thought Klemmer was a much better option than TPJ and I also think he's better than Stefano. Bigger minutes, more consistent, more impact in defense, lifts the team when on the field, better offload. Stefano's best runs are usually on the back of a Klemmer run. Stefano's runs can be devastating but he also has spells where you barely notice him. Still happy for him, and he's heaps better than TPJ, but Klemmer is underrated and with Api out, he's our most important player.
