Our 2005 Year

I was just watching the 2005 highlights DVD and Ive always believed that we were lucky that we met the Cowboys in the GF. I know we beat Brisbane and St George leading up to it but does anyone else believe that had we met Saints or even Brisbane in the GF it would have been a different story?

Whilst I take nothing away from what we did in that run towards the premiership I believe that Saints especially would have got us in the big one.

Im just putting this out there to try and bring some discussion that takes our minds away from this horrible period we are going through.

What are everyones thoughts on this?

if anything, Parra was the big question mark. if they didn't capitulate against NQ the week before, I think we would've seen a much closer grand final. we lost to them twice in the regular season as well, would've been a worry for us for sure.

The only team I was worried about meeting in the GF were Saints and Parra. We obviously took care of the Dragons to get there but I have a feeling that we would have lost against Parramatta if we met them in the final.

No, I for one don't believe it would have been a different story given we had beaten both the Dragons & Broncos during the semi final series anyway. The Dragons were favourites to beat the Tigers and on paper had better players yet the Tigers as a team performed better on the day. Lets not forget the Dragons beat us by 1 point in 2010 in the semis denying us a grand final appearance which I believe if we had made the GF the Tigers were a great chance of winning. However, given we have to deal with absolutes the Tigers were deserved winners in 2005 and lets just enjoy the one of the very few shining moments we have to celebrate as Tigers supporters.

we have 1 thing to be happy about, don't take that away from us bro.

But we gave the Broncos & Dragons a footballing lesson in the semis

Benji running rings around gasiner was probably my favourite moment as a tigers supporter apart from the actual GF win

They were my thoughts on it too. Dragons had their chance. Pretty much had the whole crowd. Odds on favourites. They choked and would have choked in the grand final too I reckon. I was just as happy as us winning as the cowboys beating parramatta. I reckon they would have got us. I was at the cowboys qualifying final and I thought they had no chance of beating us. It was a fairytale run and we were the last man standing. We weren’t the best team that year. But I believe we played the best footy and till now one of the best days of my life. My only wish is that my kids get to see the tigers win a grand final. They might also have to wait 20 or 30 years lol .

I thought we’d get rolled in the 1st semi by the Donkeys ..

Doesn't make much sense to me, why would the Grand Final have been any different to the Finals games we beat the Dragons and Broncos in?

I think because it was a GF. The buildup, pressure etc. I thought we would get rolled by Brisbane. After that I would have put my house on it that Saints would have got us. When we beat those two I knew the Cowboys wouldn't stop us.
I actually got more emotional after the Saints semi than after we won the comp.

… to me as good as it was 2005 is dead in the water.

That will never be true.

The build up to the games against the Broncos and the Saints were huge, especially the Saints game, and were something we had never experienced before. I doubt the Grand Final would have made any difference, look how we played, it was still freeflowing carefree football. That team just didn't care about pressure or who they were playing.

You definately have an point about the carefree style we played that year.
