Yep. Thread makes no sense.

Then why you posting in it. Have some manners.

Ummm because it was the thread that didn’t make sense, not the title? OP asked if it would have been a different story if we played Brisbane and Saints in the GF, yet we beat them in back to back games in the weeks before. Tell me how that makes sense?

I was just watching the 2005 highlights DVD and Ive always believed that we were lucky that we met the Cowboys in the GF. I know we beat Brisbane and St George leading up to it but does anyone else believe that had we met Saints or even Brisbane in the GF it would have been a different story?

Whilst I take nothing away from what we did in that run towards the premiership I believe that Saints especially would have got us in the big one.

Im just putting this out there to try and bring some discussion that takes our minds away from this horrible period we are going through.

What are everyones thoughts on this?

I thought we’d get rolled in the 1st semi by the Donkeys ..

Wasn’t the first semi vs the cowgirls ?

Don't be one of those guys. I'm pretty sure you know what I meant.

I’m sorry, I honestly don’t. We beat the teams you mentioned in the lead up. We put the cleaners through the Broncos. I don’t see the point you are trying to make.

Isn't it still the best for and against in a finals series? In a season we had a run of 8 straight and finished top 4?

How is that a fluke?

The point is the pressure of a grand final is completely different to a normal semi final. You go to a packed house, 80,000 screaming fans. The fact we played thr cowboys and knew we could beat them would have taken some of that pressure away.

The 05 side didn’t know the meaning of the word pressure.

What I mean is that from memory, Saints & Brisbane were the most consistant side that year. Our first half of the year was hit & miss. We were a little inexperienced and young. Brisbane had a side full of experience and big name players that were used to final football. Same with Saints. I just felt that had we had met either in the big one it may have been a different story. Just because we beat both sides in the weeks prior, in my opinion, I felt that we may have not got across the line.

Or in short, I'm really glad we met the Cowboys instead 🙂

People have said to me that we fluked that premiership. But there was no way it was a fluke. Our lowest winning margin in the finals series I think was about 8 - against the Dragons. We beat the Broncos by about 20 odd, put 50 on the Cowboys in the first game and then 14 in the GF.

I wouldn't say we fluked it, but we certainly caught lightening in a bottle.

I'll never get tired of watching replays of those games from 2005, the team was so entertaining.

Remember Brian Smith was coaching eels so they would have choked in GF for sure.

Tigers beat everyone in our path. We probably lucky Slater, smith , cronk we one year shy from being the dominance that followed.

Wests Tigers deserved that premiership for sure
