Our Attack -Hooker

Ok so we are now a serious defensive unit. Maybe the best we have ever been. But what about the attack?

Its very pedestrian, flat, one dimensional, non existent.

For me it all starts with the hooker. Godinet and McIllwrick are doing their job but there is no threat out of dummy half and its telling. Brooks and Marshall dont have any time and cant get on the front foot. They are easily marked as they are our only point of attack.

Hopefully Liddle will be back soon and start offering something out of there. Once he does it will open it up for the halves and bring guys like Marsters into the game with a retreating defense.

With a fit Liddle id put both Godinet and McIllwrick back in state cup.

Agree. We have probably had 2 dummy half hooker runs in 2 games?!?!??!

I didn't see much of the trials, but I see nothing to excite me about Godinet. I think both weeks he has looked lost in attack a bit. Mcillwrick is solid, but no threat. I also don't like playing two hookers if the bench hooker is not going to come on and add spark.

I think Liddle is the hooker, having a twenty minute rest for ET or JR in the future.

When McIllwrick first played FG for us he was running out of DH, trying to exploit the markers but it's vanished from his game.

Godinets service was ordinary at times last night but he's trying.

Liddle will probably walk in once fit.

Its 2 games…

They trained all off season with a view to the halves in Brooks and Reynolds playing both sides of the ruck...i think the late withdrawal of Reynolds prior to round 1 threw them a bit..

They have now gone back to Benji running the right hand side and Brooks the left...i hope they are just working it out and eventually go to both sides ...

I agree with your comments on the hooker..it is just minimum standard atm ...Godinet had some good monments last night tho...Matt is just a bit player now to give Godinet and Taylor a rest...

It will be at least Rd 6-8 before we see Liddle in 1st grade ..

Godinet trying to kill us with his passes from the scrum.

I thought MMc was superior when taking the field both weeks, but he doesn't have to see off the opening salvos atm.

Maybe they can bring Farah back on 90k on an educational and feel good role.

Better than anybody else atm real fairytale stuff.

Farah will never have any association with this club in the future. No point suggesting it. It is not going to happen. He not only burned his bridges, but dug the channel deeper to make it impossible to rebuild the bridges.

Burnt bridges? Lol he was a club legend and was treated with complete disrespect by the club. He shouldn't come back it wouldn't feel like a feel good story at all. Besides we have Liddle. Teddy had huge raps on him.

Said it a few times , we are playing footy far too far away from the ad line , we need to play closer to the line to create more pressure and to make the opposition have to make defensive decisions

At the moment the opposition has time to react to our attack , we need to change that

Our big weapons aren't being utilized with flat balls close to the line or in situations where defenders have to make decisions

Those weapons are Aloiai and Marsters (Lawrence also , but his hands get ugly when we play at the line )

The minute they become utilized oppositions will need to make decisions , that's when Brook's running game will become a weapon also

It might take a little time , but the defence is their and remember we have probably faced arguably the two best defensive sides in the comp

Okay. If that is what you want to believe. Perhaps if you go and ask a few people in the club about his behaviour you will hear another side.

I reckon Cleary didn't want us playing expansive footy early on with all the new players and combos.
If we keep up our defense, Liddle coming into the squad will ensure our attack will evolve.

We just have to make do with the two hooker's we currently have… Liddell won't be up for 80 either when he's back which is still 6 weeks away or so.
Ivsn has mentioned Reynolds in the 9 so I will expect this soon tho it didn't look promising in the trials.
Lots of early one out running with no bodies in support is making it easy for opposition to pick off our forwards reducing opportunities for our dummy halves.
You must bend or break the line before the 9s can do much

Godinet has been terrible both games.

Brooks needs to move to hooker. He's playing a nothing role in the halves and our play falls down most times Luke gets it. Very surprised he's getting so much praise for his game. Marshall is carrying us. Brooks moves to nine really improves 2 key areas IMO.

Disagree ….. on last nights performance "he is our half".

X2

I can't believe the praise either. It's ridiculous how much he offers in attack for someone playing their 5th year in first grade. He is deadset useless and everyone would be giving it to him this season if it wasn't for Benji controlling both games. He has a role to play in the team and if he is not capable of doing that role he needs to be dropped it's that simple. RF is a MUCH better player and look at the treatment he got.

It didn't last long (Reynolds at 9 ) and he looked extremely frustrated when he came off Ink

I can see the point that KS is making , but I'm not convinced now that Reynolds and Benji will mix well

Agree the mix of Benji and Reynolds is questionable. Benji and Gamble though I think is a nice mix.

MM made two good DH runs last week when he came on

Hard v the Storm to get a situation to run effectively from DH , they wrestle so well , you need to get the opposition on the back foot 1st

i think when lolohea returns he goes to 5/8 and benji goes to 1/2, not sure about hooker joshs passing out of dummy 1/2 is terrible, and i dont think brooks could handle the work load. would like to see corey stay at fullback.
