Our Defense Is Not as Good As It Was

We're putting our D under way too much pressure with poor ball control and penalties.
Our D is still ok, our attack is pretty terrible

I thought our defence was pretty good, considering Parra had the ball down our end for long stints.

The only let downs I can remember was the offload on our line when we had 3 players hanging on and Benji's miss. Not sure on the Benji one as I didn't see a replay.

Penalties and drop balls were the problem, Parra didn't work it out of their end all game.

Not much more to add really. The Tigers defense is not the impenetrable wall that it was at the start of the season. Both Parra and Newcastle have got on rolls through the middle and we are conceding tries far more easily. I think all the opposition sides are developing greater fluency in their attack but it doesn't alter the fact that our defense doesn't possess the consistent speed or swarming nature that it did initially.

Hard to disagree with that. However, I think we really benefited from the early season 'over-policing' of play the balls and the 10 metres. Now that's all stopped, we struggle to hold out the fast teams that build momentum with quick play the balls.

Exactly.

our attack was awful fo r the first 5 rounds too until the parra game we cwere play like crap against better teams than what we have faced over the last few weeks
if our defense was as good as people are saying here we would of lost by under 20 points

Our Top 17 it is good

Beyond that we have some issues

The dumbest all day without a doubt was Chee Kam

Chee Kam tries to grab the leg of an attacker 10 metres from our tryline going nowhere on tackle 1 and doesn't think that tying the ball up might be the better option

If he makes our Top 21 one more time ….......

Looked like Nofo to me

You see him from the behind shot clear as day , the pretty smile gives it away , I was screaming at him to tie the ball up

I'm waiting for a MCK Fan to come and defend him , seems like his bus may have broken down …....

In terms of defense, I have to commend Brooks for a couple of his efforts. That try saver on a rampaging forward in the first half proves that he is no longer the swinging door he once was. Gutsy stuff.

Defensively has improved 100% going well.

Remember the first game against Melbourne? We were penalised 16-6 and, yet we only conceded one try. Again, my point is that our defense isn't as good as it was, whether due to refs relaxing of ruck or not. Once more, not saying our defense is bad, or that it was the main problem tonight, just that it's not as fortress like as before. I agree, penalties, poor decision making and loss of the ruck have all contributed to our recent losses.

The embarrasing try by Takarangii scored in Tigers' right corner really highlighted how bad our RHS backline defence is. Chee Kam did not have a clue with Nofo and Marsters out of position due to their prologed prepccuption with assisting in the earlier tackle. The RHS defence has to be strengthened if the Tigers are going to improve..

Not going to win games when you continuously drop the ball and give away silly penalties all game. We will struggle to win any games with the amount of errors we conceded today.

Line speed has been bog average since Packer got injured. Doesn’t help that the interpretation of the rules seems to change every week

Im happy with the effort in defense although we miss alot of tackles.
We put ourselves under alot of pressure defensively due to poor ball control and a tonne of penalties

You crack me up Hodgo.
“I’m happy with the effort in defense although we miss a lot of tackles”.

Lol

Effort and effectiveness are different things mate the boys go hard but we bounce off a bit to much

Yeh I noticed that too….it was impressive

50+ mistackles last week
Almost 50 again this week

Its a concern

Some of the defence today was great, but there were key lapses which cost us. The Moses forward pass should have been pulled up. The offload with 3 players on an Eels player was unacceptable, and Benji got isolated on the line which again, not great. We are clearly missing Packer, Taylor and Twal who are all good defenders and help keep our ruck tight.

The poor execution with the ball just put the defence under more pressure today. In the end it told.
