Our much maligned pack... really that bad?

Our props are really good. Woods, Buchanan, Galloway, BMM and Bell are a great combination. You could throw Bell in there as well.

Our backrow though is an issue. I really like Fulton but we need some beasts in there to support him.

There is too much stock placed on having a massive forward pack… if anything Bellamy has shown that its not so much about the roster, more how you take advantage of the positives in the troops you have. Time and time again he has taken mediocre players and utilised them better than they ever have been before, tweaking his system to incorporate the roster he has.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. The chooks got beaten by field position, the bunnies forwards didnt bust the line, though they crossed the advantage line straight onto their stomachs for quick play the ball. They ran a speed the chooks couldnt keep up with. If we are not predictable, we can do the same with our staff to an extent. We all rag on Blair for backing into tackles rather than punching the line, where is our coaches screaming at Moltzen and co to follow him through... I guarantee he would be more effective when he chose to hit it up if the D was in 2 minds trying to read an offload as well.

Its not a game won man for man on a set of scales, its if a team can utilise the talent on hand.

You do realise Bellamy's roster consists of the best 1, 7 & 9 combination in the competition - with players like that you could make any mediocre player look good.
Why, when Benji is playing in good form he can make a mediocre backrower look like an attacking weapon.
Don't get me wrong, Bellamy is well in the top 3 coaches of league but he has a massive advantage in the playmakers he has.

well we have the super league coach of the year and 2 dally m medalist the best five eight in the world we have the 2nd best hooker in the comp behind smith not to mention braith anasta whos not to shabby and blair who used to be the best second rower in the world and if he steps up he still could be and the next slater in tedesco and not to mention the fastest player in the comp in marika and there are alot of others for example galloway, woods, lawrence, moltzen i just 😛ray: and 😛ray: and 😛ray: that we STEP UP TO OUR POTENTIAL or i will be doing this all season :brick: :brick: but if we do make the 8 i will be doing this :master: to mick potter and do this :roll  to all the haters and ppl that thought we would be easier then a draw this season and if we make the top 4 i will do this :righton: :sign: and then some on on the street will do this :crazy :wtf

Barring Potter and Anasta we had the same blokes in 2012 and where did that get us

Equal 9th :brick:

my predicton for this year on the ladder is between 7-12 if we are inconsistent and are just rubish in defence or 5-9 if our forwards step up and backs step up and we work as a team

OK…

You are half arguing my point there... as you said, Benji on fire he is a multiplier for those around him for starters. We have Robbie as well, where would you put him, say top 2-5 hookers in the world at present. Then we come to Tadesco, aclaimed as the next Slater, played 3hrs tops first grade all up and already showed he may be up to the accolades, huge potential. So in all honesty, we are not that far off the magical Storm combo you speak of...

It is disheartening how negative a majority of this forum are. Our Roster is fine, it really is. What we need to be is a team, one that performs to potential or close enough to it consistantly, and across the park. No matter how awesome our pack could be in fantasy land, they are only a cog in a bigger machine.

Our roster got us premiership favs in 2012 which means our roster is GREAT! What happened is stupid coaching and generally not lliving up to our POTENTIAL of which there is tonnes!!!

the key words this year are POTENTIAL,ATTITUDE,CONSISTENCY. we did well in 2010,2011 i really don't know what went wrong last year was it injuries or a insane coach or all the position changes in the halves and in the spine or was it just we did not live up to our POTENTIAL and we did not have the right ATTITUDE and we did not have any CONSISTENCY.

Trying to compare the Tigers and the Storm is a joke really

Geez Louise!
Our season hasn't even started yet.

I have never said that I would take anyone's pack over ours - if I did then I may as well support that other team.

If I think that our team has deficiencies then I pray that our recruitment team will improve our roster over time.

I still hold hope that we will go alright this year. First step - make the 8.
Anyway, one things for sure, the Roosters, Broncos, Bulldogs and Warriors won't do any good this year after their poor starts

So sorry was replying to comments made about trying to compare the Tigers to Melbourne If the 2012 side couldn't match the Storm the 2013 side won't do much better

So if you were given the opportunity to switch our pack with the Brisbane's pack you wouldn't …..Our props even out with Brisbane

Back row Glenn ,Thaiday ,Gillett v Fulton,Blair and Anasta Its a no brainer really

All that rain you've had in Rocky has drowned your brain Time for another swim in the Fitzroy

we have 2 good starting props, but the backrow is weak.
we have nothing on the edges.
unfortunately for us,we lost simon dwyer.he was turning into a weapon on the edge with good lines and tackle breaking ability.
with ellis on the other edge and rhino the workhorse you had a balanced back row, with all 3 ready to do the tough yards out of our end.

today we have blair who hides behind the line, fulton who gets smashed most times coming out of our end and anasta who's best work is done inside the opposition 20.

we have now resorted to one out runs by backs and props.

it's tough to play the patient grinding game when your squad isn't built for it.
a tough position to be in if you are the new coach.

some potential on the bench in the backrow, but too light at prop.
going to be hard to be consistent with our forwards, especially when they are not noted as a defensive unit that can pressure you into mistakes.
