Our new squad, depth and competition!

Macdougall spot on I am looking forward to next season with only one exception Farah not moving on as I also see him as the epicentre of the old culture .The talk of Farah being the best hooker at the club is also laughable ..I think Cherrington although not quite up to the full 80 at present is all over Farah, the last game of the season showed that.. Cherrington comes on and all of a sudden a totally different team dynamic . Hungry players wanting to play at the top level is a great thing to have around the club .Off the field I get the impression there is going to be some major signings for 2017 big things are just around the corner for this club..

My WT oxygen thief list:

Farah
Lawrence
Buchanan
Halatau
Naiqama
Milone
Hoeter
Lovett

They all suck. None of them are dynamic. They are good state cup players.

Am I missing anyone?

If I had my way I would get rid of them all, blood the new guys and go out and buy some reputable players.

Our halves are also hanging on by a thread.

Sorry guys but I am sick of the old "we'll be a better team in a few years".

We have all waited long enough.

I don't like Taylor's tactics, but at least he's prepared to have tough and honest conversations. I am praying we somehow get Toovey if Taylor goes.

Farah, Naiqama and Lovett state cup players??

One captained the blues, another was extremely strong all year for as on the wing/centre and the last has a strong workrate in defence and is still very young. great potential.

as braith woulda said 'youre off your head'

I do find it interesting that we lost players for 2016, many of whom were very lukewarmly received in this forum, but some people are now worried about the lack of talented replacements.

Only a truly fortunate (selective accounting) team can afford to replace also-rans with highly talented recruits each season.

Maybe we are just swapping one set of mugs for another, but what I can say for sure is that the previous mugs were tested and proven absolutely mug-worthy, whereas the new mugs can still prove us wrong.

I definitely see where you're coming from, and it's a very fair point.
I'm not overly concerned about any of the players leaving (other than Taupau), and agree that some of the new guys have decent upside.
But it's not really 'exciting ' is it? Signing rep players and seasoned FGers in positions of need is exciting. We just don't do that at WT.
Sure, we let go of some mugs, but there's still plenty left behind. I just can't get excited about yet another rebuilding season.

Compare our 17 to any other team in the comp - case in point. Who doesn't want to win comps? Aren't we all tired of mediocrity? Don't you want the Tigers to be seen as a very hard game like the Dogs, Storm, Broncos etc. Time for change and bring in Toovs!

I'm keen to see the Madness play first grade. I have heard good things about Chee Kam. I fear however that Taylor regardless will still play the same team more or less as this year. I'm also concerned about Cherrington now we have Ballin and Farah. Our halves are rubbish too. 2k16 is going to be a long one for us lads

I was nodding away for the first 3 and a half lines. What you say was plausable.

Then I got to the 4th line and I thought "our halves are rubbish" he said.

Then I knew you were talking out of …....

We have got some depth , but they are all about the same level as the starting line up

Will hopefully lead to competition throughout the squad

I reckon if we are serious only maybe 8 players are safe come Round 1

Lots of spots up for grabs

Yep, we have put depth in many positions, competition and new culture.

If Brooks and/or Moses shine we'll do well.

Then for 2017, we go and sign a couple of genuine game breakers after we have a "back us next season" year and finish mid table removing our losers stigma. That's what I see happening.

Farah a state cup player. Your an idiot. Daley thinks that he is good enough to be the S.O.O hooker and vice captain but you think he is crap. I think you are the oxygen thief with your stupid comments

I agree with you Snake. I know that there is talk of big signings for 2017, however, when I started to think about it a number of questions appeared.

In what positions are we looking at to strengthen with "major signings"?

If the team does well this year, will there be a need for these signings?

Who is available/off contract at the end of 2016?

Are the players who are available the ones we will really need?

Interesting year ahead.

Not sure how accurate the list is, but it's a start.
No idea how much $$ we'll actually have to play with, but there's a fair few attractive names there.

Farah is not worth $950k per year and you guys are deluded if you think he is. He has destroyed our club, has too much pull and is selfish. I remember in 2012 he slotted a field goal against Newcastle from dummy half when we had someone in a much better position. Selfish prick! Sums him up. How many times do his stupid kicks close to the opposition line come off good for us? Would be lucky to be 10% of the time. We have Ballin now who is broken but what is Cherrington going to do now. I wouldn't blame him for leaving. Te Maire Martin is electric and is tonnes better than Brooks and Moses. Anyhow, you guys will see. Hopefully I am wrong.

Personally I'm not confident of major signings being successful or even happening.

I hope you are wrong. I'm not sold on TMM. He may come good but who knows. I suppose it is just as likely as TMM turning into the player in the halves we need as much as Brooks and Moses.

I think Brooks and Moses could be real good players but they have to actually get to that level.

Having read the thread, I would not be spending a lot of money on most of the players listed. Lee from Canberra would be ok.

However, a lot will depend on how our current players perform next season. Their form will tell us in what position we need to strengthen, but are players ( good players ) available in those positions?

We certainly should not pay overs for ANYONE. Fair market value only. If other clubs want to put themselves in hock, let them.

As I stated earlier, it will be interesting to see how our so called "young guns" go and how our new recruits perform.

List of second rowers is very impressive

Surely we could snaffle one 😛ray:

The issue is that the market is inflated due to the unlimited TPAs that some clubs can offer, so we may well have to pay 'overs' to pick up some of these top players.

I am honestly happy with the way we have recruited, there is some X factors to be played out come the new season. Will be interested how our spine goes now that it will be cemented who's here at the club. I'm hoping Brooks stands up and starts to own this team, if he doesn't would like Moses to be given the 7 jumper.
