Outclassed by Parramatta

Parramatta outclassed us in every important department. Their forwards rolled through us, their playmakers executed the right kicks at the right time, and they never looked rushed.

We were 2 down with 7 minutes to play. Even then I didn't see us winning the game. I can't think of any moments in the game where we completed a set and I thought "we're on top here".

Positives:
- Kicking games from Brooks and Douiehi was solid.
- Some decent attacking structure when in good ball territory.
- Good completion rate.
- Stayed in the game until the death.

Negatives:
- Middle forwards unable to match opposition.
- Still not enough attacking shape in our own half. All of the good teams have shape set-up by play 3.
- Failure to defend offloads.
- Can't defend set restarts. It's a common theme where we start a game well, then a set restart happens and we capitulate.
- Some small opportunities missed which could have changed the momentum. E.g. Roberts not putting his foot out off the kick-off and Talau not passing to an unmarked Kepaoa.
- Douiehi exposed again in goal-line defence.

To put it simply, we're not good enough. Not good enough to beat a top 6 team, and definitely not even within light years of winning a premiership, let alone finish in the top 8.

First game this year we were belted in the forwards IMO.

Backs are a much bigger issue at the moment.

Missed all our other games I take it?

Sounds like you have. Go watch again.

They did not outclass us. They were fighting to stay in the game with 5 to go with the referee on their side. That game said more about them than us.

Our biggest issue is waiting on our initial 10 m or slow move forwards, so the opposition made 7 to 8 m on every play without even trying. Our props were better then in the last three games. Garner again exposed in defence but he also does not do anything in the attack.

Our best players were Laurie, Utoikamanu, Liddle, Tamou, Musgrave, Twal, Nofoaluma, Roberts and L Lailua in the 2nd half.
AD shall continue with his 'King Richards' special attacking kicks.

MIA AJ, Talau, Garner

IMHO, Garner shall be replaced by Amone or Simpkins
AJ with Cini
Talau with BJ

There was no heart in our team for 70 minutes of that game. Reminded me of public servants just waiting for their paycheck.

That’s ok. I take it you think we were able to match the raiders pack and the 2nd choice roosters pack. Oh and I guess Daniel Safiti and Klemmer didn’t get almost 200m each oh and Frizell and Barnett were not killing us on the edges?

Can’t argue with anything there.

Our biggest problem, and it has been a problem for years is that we have no line speed and very little coordination in defence. If we could get off the line in D and hold the middle instead if folding backwards, we'd go ok.

Oh yes, we need a halfback too.

No one wants to be beaten by the Wests Tigers.
Really I think we lost the game in the first half, but found it a positive sign that we had a little bit of fight in us too.
There's a reason they're sitting at the top of the ladder and until we correct or improve on it, teams are always going to take of advantage of the fact we have a new spine and certain defensive problems.
We need to start clicking and stop playing so half arsed. We looked very hesitant in the first 10 if you ask me.

Defensive structure is genuinely non-existent. No communication, no shape, no line speed. It's been this way for years and seemingly become even worse.

Someone’s not getting the message. Why is it Maguire is a defence and effort coach. Yet they are the two areas of the game that we are most lacklustre with?

We suck at the basics which is a major concern

Tackling in numbers
Line speed
Repeat sets
Catching and passing
Asserting aggression
Lazy kick chase
The list is endless..

You'll get no argument from me there. My point is that Easts, Penrith or Souths would have won 40 blot today. Parra managed to let in four tries and had two gifted by the ref and had no sealed it until 5 to go. Today's result says way more about Parra than us.

we bring the lesser teams down to our level for periods ( like Parra) . Then there skill and energy get them home .
Sometimes we jag a win but the big clubs like South’s , Roosters, Panthers Etc ..
Nah ... we usually get flogged all the way .
