Pass mark 2022

Sometimes I wonder what forum I'm in. I've never seen so much club bashing in my life. It's kind of embarrassing. If you truly feel the club is hopeless and will never amount to anything, go somewhere else.

For me, I want to see a genuine effort every game. The rest will take care of itself.

When was the last season you saw genuine effort?

A coach in his fourth year at the club should be making the finals no doubt. 8th or higher is the pass mark

Was about to write the same as that has to be the expectation.

Four years is a bloody long time in any position and to not achieve a 51% result in that time is ridiculous. One makes exceptions for the Wests type teams of the past that were running on the smell of an oily rag, but that is not the case with WT flush with funds and they will also have state of the art facilities to rehab and prepare come this season.

I agree but we also need to diagnose the right problem here.
Yes the WT is flush with Funds, but our side does not look it. Our most exciting signing is Hastings, a player which I don't believe anyone leapt for.

If MM does not perform this year and I expect us to come 13th, he will be gone. Just looking at the top 5 and were not coming above Melbourne, Manly, Souths, Penrith, Easts.
I can't see us coming above Eels, Sharks, St George (although it's a weird signing spree with them and a lot of player changes). Canberra in the mix somewhere.
Dogs, Titans will try to push into the top 8.

So going to be realistic. The coach has a team that finished 11-13th on 18 points. That's not a top 8 team unless a miracle happens. If we get 22 points this year and miss the finals I consider that a success with 2 more wins. 3 teams had 22 points and only one came 8th.
Particularly if we start showing up each game and really defend, were building and improving. If we finish with 16 points or worse, bye bye Madge.

A top 8 finish is a pass mark. Anything less is a failure.

Realistically I think we’ll finish with the spoon or in 15th place given our roster, injury to AD, and the way we performed last year but generally I think the same standard applies to pretty much every club in the NRL. Finals is acceptable and anything less is a failure.

If we get supporters at the ground to really support the team that would be a great plus. This team needs genuine support and the confidence which follows.

just want to see us play for 80 minutes. we don't have a quality roster to do anything of note, I'm just sick of us playing decent for small patches and then terribly for double that.

I have seen it sporadic and off and on over the last few years. Consistently? Probably ten years ago.

I had the misfortune to be at Redcliffe when we played the bulldogs in the last game. That was the most insipid performance I have ever seen in top grade football, and I've followed WT and Balmain before that for near on 50 years.

There is enough talent there to sustain a reasonable team. We aren't world beaters. But their personal attitude is a disgrace. I hold each of the players solely responsible. I dont blame Pascoe, Lee H, The coach, the trainers, no one but the players. Even if you hate the coach and hate the club, you get on the field and show personal responsibility and self integrity.

But anyway , with a few leaders driving accountability, it all changes. A few need to stand up.

Completely agree with all of that, our problem is too many of our players seem to see it as "just a job" and you only try if everybody else does and even then only when you have the ball. Those bludgers need to be removed, some have already gone but not enough of them imo

Mate like you I want to see effort, commitment and a real strong team bond. Sadly in elite sporting competitions, class and skill are the two major factors that drive success. You need game breakers and in 2022 our cupboards are bare of these players. So my expectations are low, but if for once we could finally lay some real foundations for 2023 and beyond I would be very happy.

Random bit of info

But if the 2021 season games ended at halftime....

We finish 14th...

Even more random - if games where stopped when we were in the lead we would have won 15 games and a bye to finish equal with the eels.

i'm expecting a bad season so anything 8th-14th is expected
also we really need to stop playing players who aren't gonna be with us next year
why not give a junior a shot maybe they will be able to step up

With the way other sports are going

There are going to be ALOT of juniors getting there chance

A very good question, what is a pass mark?
Is it feasible to have realistic goals which maybe lofty enough to inject the fear of failure? Goals like “make the top 8, “ when we know we’ve made 21 attempts and managed the achievement on only 3 occasions?
I would love to know what the individual players’, coaching staff’s goals are? I can’t imagine they would be picking a position on the ladder as a goal? Far too many variables outside their control.
If they’re aiming for success in any part of their game then the “how “ becomes the goal. e. g. goal is to be first scorer. How will we do this? If the “ how” is performed consistently with military precision then that is the true measure of the team’s success, not necessarily being the first scorer.

Good Analysis so lets sum it up.
Finish higher than 13th, 11th pass, anything greater achieved.
22 points a success
16 points or less Madge gone.

Personally i dont like our chances not much has really improved in the Roster, but we did shed some dead wood and have been smart with our spending. New Assistant coaches that seem more experienced, and Sheens over seeing things we might see some improvement as it can't just come from Madge and his F Bombs.

If we show commitment, passion and hard work every game but still miss the 8 - would everyone be happy?

I think the pass mark has to be 8th, to get there we would of had to show better attributes than we did in 21 anyway. Anything less, its just yet another year you look back on thinking "how disappointing, the opportunity was there and yet again the Tigers didn't deliver". 2019 comes to mind, we showed more grit and determination that season and yet I look back at that year in disgust because of that last game...typical Tigers.
