Pat richards penalty try

If that wasnt a penalty try I will dead set give it away…..hit in a head high tackle in the act of putting the ball down to score a try.

The video ref comes up with the biggest BS call ever, that he was in touch when the foul act occurs...which is/was complete BS...Richards was easily in play and went within a whisker of getting it down.....

Absolute rubbish call....

Yeah, foot out when hit high was very very wrong….I dunno about penalty try, he finished very awkwardly, but their ruling didnt make sense

Tackle was off the shoulder - penalty sufficient

*Thinking….......................thinking*

Off to youtube - type 1999 nrl grand final highlites into search

The refs said it WASNT a no try because Richards foot was out…which is clearly not the case.....he was putting the ball down for a try and the hit in the head knocked him out....clear penalty try IMO.

And the refs seem like they would have awarded it except for this mysterious foot being out??/

Here are two photos. The first is when he is hit, the second is the point when his foot first hits the ground over the line.

Lowe has already hit him and then fallen off by the time Richard's foot goes over. Horrible call.

You'd have to be blind to agree with the video refs. Richards is also such a good a finisher he would've put the ball down earlier had he not been hit high.

Very bad officiating. Plus Robbie looked a bit flummoxed by the decision too.

Lucky in the context of the game it didn't affect the end result.

The ruling was incorrect….his foot was nowhere near out when hit high

Penalty try decision is a judgement call....I could go either way, Im glad you see the diff between 99 tho

It was a hard match to referee as emotons went high for the rabbitohs. It was bad luck for the rabbitohs that GI was knocked out in the first 5 minutes. There was nothing illegal in the tackle and our player could have been the party that was knocked out.. Our player was aggressive without self preservation as GI was such a big bloke compared to our tackler who was so much smaller in size. We were lucky that our player was not hurt but he did an excellent match like all the other players in the West Tigers.
For the Pat Richards tackle, the refreree and the video referee erred in the fact, that Pat Richards foot was not out when he was tackled. A foul was committed in the act of a try was being effected, thus a penalty try would have ben justified.
As for Woods tackle, that should not have been placed on report, Woods was merely completing the tackle. Woods had not been dominating in the past, I thought his game stood out last night.
As for Gavet kneeing, it was to the fist that was to get it loose although it was not a good sight.
The Rabbitohs were frustrated and off their game more than anything. They were expected to win and by a big margin. When that did not happen, they were trying to score every time they got the ball and in doing so made too many errors, made too many head high tackles and had too many missed tackles.

Yeah i couldn't help but yell at the tv when the ref said Richards leg was out before he got hit high. BS, definite penalty try.

I agree, should have been penalty try.

I think the refs were trying to say that his foot was out before he would have grounded the ball, but they were wrong wrong wrong to say it happened before he even got hit.

The only reason his foot went out was because we was struck high. Richards loses control of his limbs after the contact, you see his arms drop and his legs fly out. His left leg literally flops over the line and he drops the footy as his arms hit the deck.

Patty doesn't dive for the corner, he absorbs the contact. So if you are 6 feet in the air when you get clobbered, you aren't going to touch down gracefully once your arms and legs stop working.
