So disappointing but it seems that wherever Hope goes the team lose it in the middle and if you put high kicks to Mason he drops them and starts being terrible in defence .. Mason a bit of a flat track bullyDreadful 2nd half, 0-36. That performance ends our top 5 hopes. Lack of professionalism, discipline & concentration compared to a Bears team full of desire, effort & structure.
Handling errors on 1st tackles, at the scrum & from high kicks summed it up.
Something needs to change with our defensive structure at our club. Nearly every time the opposition runs a deep backline with the fullback adding the extra man, they create an overlap. Our left side particularly the connection between Ethan Roberts, Javon Andrews & Solo Saukuru was abysmal in the 2nd half.
Just looking at the 1st half, Bunty Afoa put in a huge 1st stint, Solo Saukuru made 3 or 4 tackle-busting runs, Faingaa was strong, Mason was dangerous & Hope was all-effort in defence.
But once things went against us in the end half, we capitulated. Lack of connection, discipline & concentration - club wide issue. Hope lost his head late & was binned. Mason was terrible on the last line.
Just dreadul 40 mins. Maybe can give a point to Afoa, Broederlow & Fainga'a, that's about it.
agree. one aspect i could not understand, having Hope playing in the halves or lock (not sure which), the same time Murray, Andrews and Lisles were all on the field. Seemed to be getting in each others way and Andrews got little good ball, too many small guys in defence.Dreadful 2nd half, 0-36. That performance ends our top 5 hopes. Mate when I said the defensive structures were wrong at the club I was told it was just personnel missing in firsts, well it can’t be because it’s through all grades. It’s held this team back from winning more games this year. Edges stripped way too easyDreadful 2nd half, 0-36. That performance ends our top 5 hopes. That 2nd half showed the deficiencies in many of our depth players atm.So disappointing but it seems that wherever Hope goes the team lose it in the middle and if you out high lkickw to Mason he drops them and starts being terrible in defence .. Mason a bit of a flat track bully
I'm the same. Our personnel at NSW Cup level should be stripped like that. It's coaching 1st & foremost.Mate when I said the defensive structures were wrong at the club I was told it was just personnel missing in firsts, well it can’t be because it’s through all grades. With you on your assessmentsThat 2nd half showed the deficiencies in many of our depth players atm.
-Mason, not NRL standard I'm afraid, should not be extended.
-Saukuru, can see why his defence at centre is holding him back. Very poor connection with his inside men.
-Andrews, has got it in spades, just needs to continue to work on his connection in defence with his backrower & centre.
-Ethan Roberts, no where near NRL ready atm with his defence, needs to work on his tank, contact & connection. A Roberts/Andrews defensive combination is too inexperienced even in NSW Cup.
-Hope, Geyer, Murray, goodbye, NSW Cup standard at best.
Are we possibly opting for too much size on our edges and forgetting about the athleticism required to defend well in these crucial positions?I'm the same. Our personnel at NSW Cup level should be stripped like that. It's coaching 1st & foremost.
Javon seems very reluctant to lower his had to make a tackle , I’m thinking it may have something to do with his spinal injury in the past which would make it very understandable .. if he can be coached and trained to hit and tackle with better technique then he will be a very complete player .. but he needs help and coaching skills in this area and soonThat 2nd half showed the deficiencies in many of our depth players atm.

BWG Junior T could not cut it at the dolphins and the roosters where happy when he leftYeah Saukuru will be a disappointing development loss if true.
I do think both Tupou & Tavana have potential even if Tupou has been more exposed to NRL in recent seasons. I think maturity & experience will enhance his game.
Tavana was thrown in too early off impressive pre-season form. He has exceptional natural ability but a few flaws in his game and his body is still developing as a medium-seized winger. Should have just been developed with a full season in NSW Cup this season and a big year in the gym - he is noticably putting on size through this year.
I do hope Benji & staff are seriously looking at Vaka Aho, Fio Fainga'a, Mitch Taotua & Bailey Hodges out of those outside our NRL system, as at the very least, pre-season Train & Trialists like Tino Tavana was last pre-season.
It is a bad defensive structure that is through the Tigers grades.I'm the same. Our personnel at NSW Cup level should be stripped like that. It's coaching 1st & foremost.
Agree with your points V. That is the blueprint atm.Are we possibly opting for too much size on our edges and forgetting about the athleticism required to defend well in these crucial positions?
The Bears look extremely well drilled and are coached by the Jersey Flegg coach we sacked mid season last year?
If you break it down to the basic fundamentals of player skill sets and attributes required for each position, the Bears have an ex 5/8 playing 13 who ball plays as crisply as anyone as their captain and regular 1st receiver.
They have a fullback who is very good at playing out the back of shape and runs onto the ball at top speed each time he does this, plus has great ball playing ability.
They have a very under rated as hard as nails hooker who is a hard hitting reliable defender and has slick service from dummy half.
They have two not overly big, but athletic edge 2nd rowers who run good lines, defend well and do not get tired.
Matt Stimson an ex centre is one that definitely should be in and around an NRL team.
