Pearce may not face Tigers

**Pearce may not face Tigers**

Sydney Roosters half-back Mitchell Pearce is struggling to be fit for Sunday's vital NRL clash with the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval.

The NSW no.7 picked up a corked leg during the Blues' State of Origin series-levelling 16-12 win over Queensland on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old watched the club's training session on Friday with his leg heavily iced, with Roosters medical staff hopeful he may be right to train lightly on Saturday to prove his fitness for the clash against the in-form Tigers.

Pearce's availability is vital to the Roosters' hopes of getting their season back on track after four straight losses, which means the club will give him right up until kick-off to make a decision.

"He's got a little bit of a cork that he'll deal with today and hopefully he'll be ready to go for us," Roosters fullback Anthony Minichiello told reporters on Friday when asked about Pearce's availability.

"He's been going great and played a really good game on Wednesday night.

"His defence was outstanding. He was putting shots on like a second rower.

"I know when you come back from that sort of level, the confidence you have can just breed into the team."

Sunday's match will be the first time the two clubs have met since Roosters skipper Braith Anasta revealed he would quit the Bondi club to join the Tigers next season.

Asked if he thought his skipper would be distracted by coming up against his future club, Minichiello said: "I don't think so. He's totally thinking about the Roosters and moving on to them next year.

"He'll be good … hopefully he has a big game for us.

"I've never experienced it but people that go to other teams or guys that come from other teams, when they play that club again they always have a great game.

"We're looking for Braith to do that for us."

Despite going a month without a victory, Minichiello said the mood in the Roosters camp was still positive and they believe they aren't far off turning a string of losses into a few wins.

"The last four or five weeks we've been pretty consistent with our football, we've just had some lapses in defence and concentration throughout the match," the veteran no.1 said.

"So the feeling around the camp has been fantastic still, we just need to fix those areas up where we're lacking.

"It's quite easy to stay upbeat because we've got a lot of young guys in the team and they provide a lot of enthusiasm for us.

"Hopefully we can put in a good performance and try and get the two points we desperately need."

Do we want him to play or not? Personally, I feel that if he is ruled out we might take the Roosters on lightly and we could get done. Also, if we win and he didn't play, our win will be dampened because one of their key players were out. Could be better if he plays.

If Pearce doesn't play, we've had a fair amount of luck with playing weakened teams. Titans were without Prince. Storm were without their big 3\. Panthers were very understrength…

Not something i'd consider a good thing. I'm sure there'd be a lot of non-Tigers fans who would say we've had a soft run

Pearce's kicking game was apalling the other night -i prefer him to play

Couldn't give a stuff what they think. It won't be a soft run in the finals series and that's what separates the men from the boys.

At the moment we have the competition points which is what is important.

Appalling because qld enforced that, their pressure and positioning made it look bad, the tigers r not qld, ofcourse it's better if he is out, he's a quality player, we just need to win games, if his absence improves our chances then great! The win would not at all be dampened, not in the eyes of coach and players!

IMHO, this is very weak argument, as Tigers also missed players at crucial positions (Tedesco, Ellis, Galloway, Farah), if we accept this argument we can discount losses against Mainly, Dragons, Souths and Brisbane as we also missed a few players

The way we play shouldnt change one way or the other if MP plays or not….nothing will change for us that we cant control

Also, if we win and he didn't play, our win will be dampened because one of their key players were out. Could be better if he plays.

Injuries are a part of this game...Its ALWAYs a factor every team, every week, every year....from kids to NRL

I don't mind whether he plays or not. Like Farah, Pearce had a rugged encounter on Wednesday night and I'd imagine he'll be feeling the pinch in the second half. The Tigers have to play what's in front of them though, and the chooks won't go down quietly with or without him.

Pearce is like his dad used to be. A good player who always gives 100% but nothing special.

You have got to be kidding right?

Either that or you just don't watch rugby league or know the game. Wayne Pearce was a magnificent player at every level of the game, club, state of origins and playing for Australia.

Whoever wrote this knows crap all about rugby league. Wayne Pearce was a great player, strong in defence and great runner with the ball.

He was also a great leader and an inspiration to his team mates. He was always one of the first picked for both NSW and Australia for a reason.

You're the biggest troll on this forum.

To say Wayne Pearce was "nothing special" is ridiculous.

x2\. That's a contender for one of the most ridiculous comments this year.

Yeah nothing special players always represent NSW and Australia

Especially in an era when quality backrowers were floating around like Cleal ,Folkes ,Lindner ,Sironen ,Vautin ,Davidson etc etc etc

You're story isn't adding up Jackie. On one hand you say you're only 22 and say you didn't remember Elias as a player, then turn around and say Wayne Pearce was nothing special. How would you even know since you weren't even old enough to see him play? I'm 25 and I don't even remember him. I agree thats how i'd describe Mitchell though
