Still working but I as I live on the North Coast have a Caravan and live on acreage I can keep on enjoying the best bits of all three at this stage. Shame part 4 seeing my team being consistent is not there yet though lol

What happened to people retiring and looking forward to spending their days walking around the TAB with a yellow formguide scrunched up in their back pocket breathing the rarefied air in those joints.

I think the prices of housing and cost of living in capital cities will dictate a lot of people's retirement plans.
Travelling whilst you are still young enough and fit enough is my goal and when too old to travel happy to downsize and live in a modern day retirement village near the coastline enjoying community living.

It would be good if we had more cheap Crown Land sales that would promote people to leave our cluttered cities to retire.

I like you thinking and it would go some way to solve the housing shortages for younger generation.
I read somewhere that governments can not afford for house prices to go down as it has so much impact on the economy.
It does lead to a two tiered system which then brings it's own problems.
I wish the Government had a scheme instead of Superannuation where you give them some of your weekly earnings to better Australia with better roads, schools, hospitals and in return you earn a guaranteed 10% pa.
If people could earned a guaranteed 10% secured by the government then no one would be investing in investment properties which would free up housing for other people.

If you haven't lived in the country before and your thinking about retiring there, I would like strongly advise that you try a rental/property exchange somewhere for 6mths.
You have to get a taste of what it's like before you put all your eggs in one basket.
I know some people, friends and relatives who missed the coast life and came back which cost them a lot of money.
I love the country, it's in my blood, but for the long term it doesn't always work out for a lot of people who leave the city.
Just some simple advice that's like buying a car....go for a test drive

Yeah once you cash out of the city it's hard to get back in, you've got to be certain you want out.

Great thread. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's plans.
I'm 41 and it blows my mind that I'm probably close to half way through my work life.
I'm hopeful that I'll still be healthy and active when I retire. My folks and in-laws all got crook after they stopped working and haven't made the most of it.
Some of my hopes are that I can get to the gym on a regular basis, do some courses / learning and continue to see more of the world.
I also figure that I might be a grandfather by that point, so I'd love some simple things like picking my grandchildren up from school and hanging out with them (I missed out on this due to my grandparents living overseas).

I have lived in the city or close to it my whole life, so can't imagine moving to a countryside or away from Sydney. I like nightlife, I enjoy being close to Asian/Indian/Mexican/Italian foods all close to me. Also job and business prospects are a lot brighter in Sydney.
I can see why everyone wants to move away though, it's got its challenges.
I think my good life has to involve work- absolutely love what I do. Having a business also allows you to have the type of work you want. The other part of my good life would involve new experiences- whether it be travelling, new foods, new activities, new people- just anything that's not monotonous.

Your right mate, people in them parts of NSW are a great bunch, we were bred there and in two cases died there.
You can take a bloke away from Cobar but you can't take Cobar out of a bloke.

I would suggest that anyone leaving the city see their GP and have every possible scan, test, colonoscopy etc . Nothing more depressing than seeing people have to travel hundreds kms for treatment or waiting to see a specialist who might visit a town once or twice a month. Access to a large regional centre at least is a fall back position.

But when you say you 'used to go up there a lot'.......it must be a looooooong time since you have been there, as getting across the bridge between Forster Tuncurry in any holiday time is a 🥵 nightmare now.
Just recently at the very ripe old age of 75, my marriage couldn't go down any further than it was, so I decided I just had to get out for good.
I had a comfortable caravan and a good tow vehicle but sold both about 12 months prev.
I had nowhere enough money to purchase even a very simple house on a rural property, and I wanted to travel around Aust. anyway.......so I went out and purchased a good quality air pole tent with all the bits and pieces to go with it and packed everything into my car.
Two days before I was ready to leave, there was a major and unexpected change for the better in my home life.
I have given up the 'travel around Oz' idea for good, as my wife and I have decided to move into a Over 55's Lifestyle Village on the Upper Central Coast of NSW.
And that's where we will be spending the remainder of 'Our Good Life Retirement'.
I had a comfortable caravan and a good tow vehicle but sold both about 12 months prev.
I had nowhere enough money to purchase even a very simple house on a rural property, and I wanted to travel around Aust. anyway.......so I went out and purchased a good quality air pole tent with all the bits and pieces to go with it and packed everything into my car.
Two days before I was ready to leave, there was a major and unexpected change for the better in my home life.
