Player Dramas in the NRL

Jeez I thought Sydney/NSW was supposed to be out of lockdown?

You guys posting non-stop all day should go outside and get some fresh air.

I post from the fresh air, though it has rained in Sydney all day so not the best day for fresh air.

There’s a real us vs them vibe going on atm. No wonder the forum is a mess.

Not from our end mate. We don't like getting accused of things we didn't do... none of us have the effort to write in like 100 threads at 3am ?

Idk. The fact there seemed to be a poll on there about who is the most hated poster on this forum tells me otherwise. There’s been a pretty unhealthy divide on the forum the last 4 or 5 months and it’s not hard to understand why. There’s a pretty direct correlation.

I don't think in the history of the internet there's been a site where people agreed on everything, if people are arguing on here over Brooks or something I wouldn't be be blaming that on some group on discord or whatever.

People disagreeing and not liking each other is the discord's fault, not like it's a natural human thing ? I'm sure everyone agrees and there was never any issues before the discord was made.

I’ve been on here 10 years mate. There’s always been disagreements. This is different. The fact some had to go away to another forum and make up polls about the most disliked poster on this forum shows the divisiveness.

James Tedesco will be investigated by the NRL's integrity unit after a woman claimed he made a racial slur against her in Sydney last week.

The NRL formally received a complaint from a woman on Sunday afternoon, after a social media post late last week.

In it, the woman's sister claimed the former Dally M medallist said "Squid Game" at the 20-year-old of Vietnamese descent when he walked past her in Bondi on Thursday.

Tedesco is expected to deny the claims, and has told the Sydney Roosters he was simply talking about Netflix's popular South Korean series when the woman overheard him.

"Last night you felt compelled to say "squid game" at my sister when you walked past her outside of Beach Road in Bondi," Katherine Trinh wrote on Instagram last week, tagging Tedesco in the post.

"This may seem like a joke to you, but these are the micro-aggressions that keep racism alive in Australia.

"My dad used to tell stories of the racism he faced when he first moved here 30 years ago, my sisters and I can all recount racism we suffered throughout school.

"And now one of them can remember when an entitled footy player was racist to her just last night."

Trinh claimed in the post that the NSW State of Origin captain had been called out on the comment when it occurred, to which Tedesco responded "do you know who I am?"

It adds to a long list of matters for the NRL's integrity unit to consider in their off-season.

Canberra winger Jordan Rapana pleaded guilty to low-range drink driving in Queensland from September on Monday, avoiding a conviction but copping a three-month suspension from driving and $500 fine.

Sam Burgess' situation is another matter to be resolved, with the NRL able to ramp up their investigation into claims last year that alleged drug use and domestic violence behaviour had been covered up by South Sydney.

The Rabbitohs strongly denied the claims by Burgess' ex-partner Phoebe, while the NRL can now speak to witnesses after a police investigation into Burgess was last week dropped.

An outcome is expected in the next few weeks on that matter, as well as a possible suspension for Burgess' brother George after he pleaded guilty to a road rage incident.

George's charge came just weeks after joining St George Illawarra.

The NRL's football department reviews are also ongoing this week, with no major alterations expected to on-field rules after two seasons of significant change.

Judiciary and off-field matters will also be considered, with clubs having submitted their ideas to changes to the system.

Again there is unlikely to be a major upheaval, but some clubs have suggested alterations to the loading system which came back to hurt the likes of Latrell Mitchell and Victor Radley in 2021.

The NRL made a point to defend the loading system during the year, pointing out that it follows a similar process to criminal courts.

Next season's draw is set to be released as soon as the end of next week.

Tedesco decision expected by end of next week - NRL News
What are even the potential consequences? Say he did and was caught lying, wouldn't it just be like a 10-20k fine? Uh no probs Uncle Nick has got it all covered. If he is found guilty then he will have to participate in the Squid games.

Sydney Roosters captain James Tedesco has been fined $10,000 by the NRL over a late-night incident at Bondi Beach.

A woman of Vietnamese descent brought a complaint to the NRL last month, alleging Tedesco made a reference to South Korean Netflix series Squid Game as he passed her sister on the street.

The NRL integrity unit subsequently announced plans to investigate Tedesco and handed down its findings on Friday, proposing the 28-year-old pay a $10,000 fine and undergo education and training programs.

The league’s breach notice did not mention the alleged racist remark, instead claiming Tedesco “behaved in a drunken and disorderly manner and also brought the game into disrepute”.

“The particulars of the breach notice are that Tedesco allegedly engaged in drunken and disorderly behaviour directed at members of the public which caused offence,” the NRL’s statement read.

Tedesco has five business days to respond to the breach notice.

Tedesco was named the NRL’s 2021 Dally M Captain of the Year, having taken the reins from Boyd Cordner this season.

He was a member of the Roosters’ 2018 and 2019 premiership-winning teams and is a recipient of the Dally M Medal.

The Sydney Roosters have not yet commented publicly about the fine.

he will do it again and the NRL can be blamed for this for taking or giving him just a slap on the wrist - I hope he doesn't do it again but I will not be surprised if he does - this is just complete NRL stupidity (include the white powder users too, for being fined next to nothing) - these guys wouldn't learn a thing

Greatest load of BS ever couldn't prove anything so they ping him for being drunk and disorderly how un Australian is that what other employer in Australia could fine a worker for being drunk and disorderly in his own time and out of season

You can't punish him for something that can't be proven. Unless he straight up confesses that he did that, he was never going to get any real punishment.
