Ex-mate of mine used to let his 5 or so year-old do whatever he wanted. 'Don't call me Dad, call me XXXX.'
They were around ours one day, the kid standing up on the top of the back of our sofa. A little dangerous considering it was in the middle of the loungeroom not against a wall, not to mention could have broken the back of the sofa.
I told him not to - ignored me so I went over picked him up and put him, on the floor. Mate says, ' Don't break his spirit.'
My answer - 'My house, my rules. He can do whatever you want at yours.'

Was a great mate at one stage. Very similar views and lifestyles but he had a penchance for picking on people he didn't like. Tried to rope me in on high school bullying type shit.
Told him I wouldn't do it, then one night he tried it on me. went off my nana at him and showed him the door. Met maybe once or twice after that. Later found out a lot of mutual friends had ditched him for the same reason.
