With Canterbury having to shed, I wonder if it would be worth us targeting a Morris or two. Or do you think they are both past their best now?

@ said:I think you will find that those power cubs that have overspent will force the hand of the NRL and they will make the cap whatever those clubs want it to be. If 10 clubs overspend, its easier to just put it up, and that's what will happen.
There will be no 'fire sale' or anything outside what is the usual offload of unwanted players. Clubs are only using that excuse now to shop around players.
Lets make the cap whatever each club wants it to be, but you are docked 2 points for every $100K you are over the official NRL cap. If you are over half a mill as some clubs will be, then docked 10 points. Then the NRL can say "We didn't force you to shed anyone, we gave you an option to honor contracts". It could really be that simple.

@ said:if the dogs are 800k over the cap as reported i would hate to be in their shoes.they will have to release at least 5 players to get under the cap.this is because clubs will expect the dogs to pay part of the contract and even if this happens those players will have to replaced with others.i think the minimum contract is around 120k…this is why we our team has struggled for the last couple of years.

Yeah I think players like Brenko Lee, Sam McKendry, Greg Eastwood, Jorge Taufua, Michael Lichaa, Lewis Brown, Jackson Hastings are the sort we are going to see clubs releasing or trying to move on. There might be the odd Peachey or Latu but for the most part it will be good depth options.

@ said:One thing to consider. To move a player on the club in question has to find a club to take the player they want to move on and the player has to agree to it. If you can't unload Player A and you need to get cap compliant then you'll need to offload Player B or Player C or whoever can find a home somewhere else.
If the Tigers hold their nerve I think there could be some nice rewards….

The NRL told the Roosters that they wouldn't register Teddy's contract unless they were salary cap compliant.

When you think about that how could they become compliant when they don't know what the cap is. The whole thing is a total farce.
