Player fire sale just weeks away

With Canterbury having to shed, I wonder if it would be worth us targeting a Morris or two. Or do you think they are both past their best now?

I think you will find that those power cubs that have overspent will force the hand of the NRL and they will make the cap whatever those clubs want it to be. If 10 clubs overspend, its easier to just put it up, and that's what will happen.

There will be no 'fire sale' or anything outside what is the usual offload of unwanted players. Clubs are only using that excuse now to shop around players.

Lets make the cap whatever each club wants it to be, but you are docked 2 points for every $100K you are over the official NRL cap. If you are over half a mill as some clubs will be, then docked 10 points. Then the NRL can say "We didn't force you to shed anyone, we gave you an option to honor contracts". It could really be that simple.

I suppose it depends if Greenberg has the balls to stand up to the likes of Dib, Nick and the other powerbrokers.

We're better off targeting young players like Twal on the cusp of NRL selection. The Morris brothers have a younger brother who I'm told is very good but both are now 32 and one has a bad knee. We can do better.

Pass too old neither would be an asset and they probably would want 3 year deals

I hope the Bulldogs struggle to off load players. Very few players that would be attractive to other clubs. Bulldogs fans are very mixed on whether they even want Woods as they see him as just another lumbering forward. Good times.

The Bulldogs are a bigger basket case then we were a few years ago, and it's not only Des that's the problem.

if the dogs are 800k over the cap as reported i would hate to be in their shoes.they will have to release at least 5 players to get under the cap.this is because clubs will expect the dogs to pay part of the contract and even if this happens those players will have to replaced with others.i think the minimum contract is around 120k…this is why we our team has struggled for the last couple of years.

As a club with cash to spend, we can only benefit from it.
Let's hope we scrape up some class with them paying some of their salary for once.
Just once it would be nice to be getting a good deal.

We might get some good back up players clubs aren't going to release Nathan Cleary type players.

Yeah I think players like Brenko Lee, Sam McKendry, Greg Eastwood, Jorge Taufua, Michael Lichaa, Lewis Brown, Jackson Hastings are the sort we are going to see clubs releasing or trying to move on. There might be the odd Peachey or Latu but for the most part it will be good depth options.

There are some slim picking there Nelson, we might be lucky and jag a half decent player.

If some clubs are way over the suggested cap, as reported, just getting rid of average players won't cut it.

One thing to consider. To move a player on the club in question has to find a club to take the player they want to move on and the player has to agree to it. If you can't unload Player A and you need to get cap compliant then you'll need to offload Player B or Player C or whoever can find a home somewhere else.

If the Tigers hold their nerve I think there could be some nice rewards….

Yes but you also need other clubs to do the same it is no use if we hold our nerve and Knights sign everything that moves.

The N R L wont be to hard on the top Teams who are over, But if it was the battling Teams they would screw them, Rules for some & not for others.

The NRL told the Roosters that they wouldn't register Teddy's contract unless they were salary cap compliant.

When you think about that how could they become compliant when they don't know what the cap is. The whole thing is a total farce.

Which begs the question, why hasn't Cam decided what it will be.

The Bulldogs signed woods and Foran after they were told by the nrl to aim for a 8.9 (I Think) million cap.
So no sympathy there.

Interesting article by Adrian Prozenko in the SMH, about some clubs hitting the phones to other clubs trying to garner support to stop the $9.2mill salary cap coming into effect next year.
So far they haven't got enough clubs on board, they need 5 clubs to stop the agreement going ahead.
Wonder who the clubs are trying to stop the cap agreement? Bulldogs, Roosters, Penrith & ?
Also story that the Dogs are shopping players around without any takers.

On Ch 9 just discussed the salary cap and Eastwood's case. He is on a heavily back payed deal and was told by the Bulldogs to leave or play reserve grade. Apparently he told whomever that he will stay and play reserve grade for three quarters of a million. This has got to blow up big time with Gallen being told by head of RLPA that all contracts will/must be honoured regardless of whether a club can fit them into their respective caps!
