I'm Just loving this whole firesale incoming media storm.
Bulldogs, Penrith, Manly, Parra ect under the pump. Especially the Bulldogs
Don't really care I'f we end up with Woods or not. Just loving the current State of the Bulldogs.
I guess it says more about me than them. I know it's pretty petty, but I'm actually getting enjoyment out of this. :roll

Yes. After so long with a bargain basement side, watching the big spenders win, it's great to have the shoe on the other foot.

Matty Johns on MMM about the Bulldogs cap situation -
“It’s so messy with all these contracts being signed so early. The latest one was Aaron Woods saying that he wouldn’t mind staying at the Tigers,” Matty said.

“At the moment, the Dogs are trying to get rid of players so they can get Foran and Woods in the team and under the cap. There’s talk of the Dogs going to players and saying ‘hey listen, unless you move onto another club, you’re going to play reserve grade’.

"And the players are happy to play reserve grade and get the money. The Dogs have got a lot of back-ended contracts."

There are more Graham in on 1m and the Morris twins on 700k. I don't think Mbye is backended but he is on 700k.
There is no way should have been able to sign Foran and Woods. How they have escaped the media barrage WT have copped shoes the bias against our club.

Mybe is on $750K a season until 2020.

I wouldnt be surprised if the fire sale didnt happen due to the NRL backflipping in an attempt to show good faith to the RLPA, the power CEO's, elite players and coaches. The cap will be lifted.

There are huge challenges in moving on elite players over developing players. The elite players tend to decide there own futures.

The real winners from a fire sale could be players stuck in a rut or behind other players. Players like JJ Felise could end up in a swap deal and find himself at Melbourne, and we might end up with a Kenny Bromwich or Tim Glasby.

Win win really. JJ would go great in that type of structure and we could use the energy of a Glasby.

Make it happen Pascoe!

Can we get Jesse Bromwich and Dale Finucane or Felise Kafusi for JJ Instead..

Make it so Pascoe..

Doubt they'd ever let go of J Bromwich, but Finucane would be ace! Surely the Panthers are over too and need to shed a good young forward or two - I'd happily take Yeo and Fisher-Harris off their hands :smiling_imp:

Just don't go near Darcy Lussick. He is among the dumbest, least talented footballer I have ever seen

I have never seen a player give away so many dumb penalties.
Dumb is an understatement.

How would these threats to drop highly paid first graders to reserves affect their second tier salary cap? I know we did it with Robbie but that was only one player.

It wouldn't have any effect on it as he'd still be one of the 30 highest paid players wherever they play him.

I won't be surprised if this happens either. Once again the clubs who play by the rules and hold off will get stiffed.

A complete joke.

Roosters may need to lose another player to fit Tedesco in
Bulldogs need to shed 2 or 3 for Woods and Foran. Lichaa and Eastwood not likely to be there in 2018 will ease nearly all their cap pressures.

Broncos still have 9 million of their 9.2 million cap to spend….

Speaking to my mate at the Roosters apparently there are 3 clubs who are in big trouble if the cap comes in at 9.2M. (Bulldogs, Manly, Panthers). They have been doing the ring around to other clubs to get them on there side for at least a 9.6M cap. Something along the lines of if 5 or more clubs complain then the NRL will review it.

Apparently Roosters are right on there limit and its why Fergo has yet to be officially announced.

From what he has said but there won't be a fire sale like people are expecting. The clubs will only need to shed 1 or 2 players to make it work.

NRL are committed to paying clubs 130% of the cap. I don't think they want to part with the additional money.
Also causes problems for the lower spending clubs in that they need to spend 90 odd % of the agreed cap.
May see some serious dollar being thrown at super league players

The N R L wont be to hard on the top Teams who are over, But if it was the battling Teams they would screw them, Rules for some & not for others.

The NRL told the Roosters that they wouldn't register Teddy's contract unless they were salary cap compliant.

When you think about that how could they become compliant when they don't know what the cap is. The whole thing is a total farce.

Which begs the question, why hasn't Cam decided what it will be.

Because he can't make up his mind at the moment.
Him and the Missus, are trying to decide if they want a new Lamborghini or , just a new Land Cruiser for the Christmas Hols this year.
Whichever he decides , will determine the new Cap( as it should do).
He has already though, told the NRL to ditch the brown paper bags .
The bags can't hold the new payments. And he now suggests that Goliath Ziplock Bags, with special reinforcing be used.
He's pissed though, because he's just heard that the Broncos have decided to cut out the middle man in the cash chain, and are going to use an actual Mayne Nicklaus Armoured car to call at all the players homes personally and just unload their shares on the front lawn.

The only way it would affect anything is if they decided that they wouldn't play reserve grade, and would leave instead, but then they have to find a new club for them and then make sure that they topped up his payment from the new club.
I doubt Eastwood would walk.

***Alert* James Hooper article**

WANT to know the real reason the Bulldogs have been so diabolical to watch for the past two months?

Because the club has been shopping the majority of its playing roster to rival clubs in a fire sale aimed at getting under the salary cap for next season.

Yep, essentially a large portion of the Bulldogs playing roster — even though they’re contracted for next season — are being offered up to rival clubs.

It’s all the big-name players, too. Captain James Graham, the Morris twins, Moses Mbye and Greg Eastwood have all been discussed for much of the season.

Bulldogs captain Graham, the heart and soul of Belmore for the past six seasons, is on the open market because the club chose to back-end his contract. Graham is on around $1 million for next season.

The Morris brothers aren’t on that much but their deals are also back-ended and upwards of $700,000 per season. Mbye is on close to $800,000 while Eastwood is the doozy of the lot.

The one-time Kiwi international is also on around the $800,000 mark next season.

We’re tipping playing NSW Cup for that sort of money won’t worry Eastwood.

Rival NRL clubs are well aware of the situation and are sitting back letting the Bulldogs sweat.

They figure they will only get increasingly desperate as they scramble to squeeze Kieran Foran and Aaron Woods in for next year.

And let’s not forget they’ve already let Josh Reynolds, Sam Kasiano and Michael Lichaa move on next season.

The Bulldogs have been busy telephoning rival clubs with the ‘For Sale’ sign well and truly in position at Belmore.

Trouble is, there aren’t really any takers. The Dogs risk being screwed to the wall because rival clubs are only going to be interested at the right price — for them.

And given the players are still contracted, meaning technically they don’t have to go anywhere, the whole scenario is a complete mess.

If any of this sounds familiar, simply rewind to the Manly Sea Eagles when Des Hasler won the second of his two NRL titles in 2011 and then walked out the door at Narrabeen.

Manly champion Geoff Toovey took over and it wasn’t long before the back-ended contracts of Anthony Watmough, Glenn Stewart, Brent Kite and the rest started to bite.

The Sea Eagles made the grand final in 2013 and the finals in 2014 before it all caught up with them in 2015\. They missed the finals for the first time since 2004 — ironically Hasler’s first year at the club — and Toovey was sacked.

So how has it come to this at Belmore? Ultimately, the buck has to stop with coach Hasler, chairman Ray Dib and CEO Raelene Castle.

Sure, their successes need to be recognised. Des went desperately close to winning grand finals in 2012 and 2014.

But where the club has failed abysmally is in recruitment and retention. Letting go players like Dale Finucane, Michael Ennis and Marty Taupau were clearly mistakes.

In February of 2015 the Bulldogs released a five-year strategic plan where the club went public about its desire to win two premierships by 2019.

It also suggested they would finish inside the top four every year.

In the background to all of this is a House of Cards-style powerplay for control of the club looming at the football club election next February.

There is growing unrest among a number of retired Bulldogs players about the direction the club has gone and there is expected to be a star-studded rival ticket challenging for control.

Will Hasler survive that long? Definitely not if the Bulldogs continue losing.

Given the backdrop of instability and uncertainty, is it any wonder the Bulldogs players have only managed to win one match out of their last seven.

Even that was a lucky, last-minute escape against the Knights.

The record shows the Bulldogs have won seven out of their last 24 matches.

One thing for certain, Hasler will need to call upon all his supercoach powers to conjure a win against the Rabbitohs on Thursday.

We’re not saying he can’t do it, but it will take one of his greatest pieces of coaching.
