Curtis Sironen re-signs with Wests Tigers

They’re flying high at the apex of the NRL premiership ladder and Wests Tigers have had another win with one of their band of young stars committing his future to the club.

It’s not James Tedesco, not yet anyway, with the injured fullback still to finalise a new contract, but there is no shortage of contentment at Concord at news that Curtis Sironen has agreed to a three-year deal that will keep him at the Tigers until the end of the 2017 season.

The Tigers will announce the re-signing of the 20-year-old City Origin representative on Thursday.

The Sironen name is synonomous at the Tigers thanks to the storied career of his father, the former Balmain, NSW and Test forward Paul, and the retenion of Curtis is the latest piece in the puzzle to come together for a club which is home to some of the game’s most promising young players.

Already NRL halfback Luke Brooks and their other richly talented teenage playmaker Mitchell Moses have been signed to long-term deals, and the Sironen development leaves the Tigers now just needing to persuade Tedesco he belongs there.

Exciting winger David Nofoaluma also extended his tenure with a three-year contract only a fortnight ago.

The Tigers are investing in their wonderful crop of youngsters after the departure last year of Benji Marshall and the performances of Brooks, Tedesco and Nofoaluma in their drive to a share of the competition lead after seven rounds is giving fans a tantalising glimpse of what they may be capable of.

Sironen was a year above Brooks and Moses as a schoolboy at Holy Cross Ryde and played most of the last season in the halves for the Tigers before being having his 2014 campaign interrupted by a foot injury which continues to sideline him.

He had been tipped as a future Australian five-eighth by Bob Fulton when he made his NRL debut in 2012 but at 195cm and 104kg there are plenty suggesting his future lies in the back-row. He is not due back from injury until midway during the season and could find himself there when he re-emerges on the first-grade scene.

Sironen’s younger brother Bayley is also on the books at the Tigers and is rated highly enough to have been included in Laurie Daley’s Emerging Blues camp for players between the ages of 16 and 18 held over the summer.

The Tigers are hoping to soon wrap up the re-signing of the in-demand 21-year-old Tedesco, whose bright start to the season made him one of the hottest properties on the open market.

The finalising of the deal has been delayed by Tedesco’s manager Sam Ayoub being overseas.

1\. Sirro 2\. Gavet 3\. Happy

But in the "of the 14 players off-contract who should we re-sign IRVINE wrote" thread you wrote this.

Curtis Sironen - No - Don't get all the love for Sironen. But no doubt will be resigned.

followed by this. Irvine wrote
Yeah Sorry Your right I should do more..I only attend every NRL game some NSW cup games and have played against Sirro since age 16.
In my opinion Sirro has achieved because of his name. Sitaleki only played one NRL game last year and then was dumped. We can't keep all the players and if I am rating players as to who we **should** keep then these two are down the bottom :wtf :wtf :wtf

So which one is it pal.Your views seem to have changed quickly in less than 24 hours.

This is a massive signing, come Round 20 people will be praising Mayer for his signing, Sirro will play Origin within 2 years in my opinion, providing injuries stay kind.

Great stuff. Love the Tigers signing up locals.
Teddy signing before Cambo will be a nice touch as well.

Woods - signed up local
Farrah - signed up local
Brooks - signed up local
Moses- signed up local
Sironen - signed up local
Lawrence - signed up local
Nofoaluma - signed up local
Tedesco - soon to be, signed up local

Any more?

& it's official

Wests Tigers have secured the ongoing services of yet another talented young player with Curtis Sironen agreeing to a new three-year-deal at the Club.

Sironen’s re-signing is a boost for Wests Tigers ahead of the blockbuster match against the Gold Coast Titans at Leichhardt Oval this Sunday, April 27 at 3:00pm AEST.

The 20-year-old has played a total of 25 NRL matches in his career so far and his new deal will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of the 2017 season.

“I’m extremely delighted to have extended my contract at the Wests Tigers,” Sironen said.

“Being a local junior, I have always wanted to play NRL for the Club.

“I’m looking forward to what the future holds and to be playing NRL alongside some of my best mates is really important to me.

“There is a really good feel around the Club and it’s an exciting place to be a part of.”

Always good news to secure a local jnr but I can think of 4 or 5 others ahead of him that I would of preferred and imo have a bigger influence on how we preform as a team. Where does Curtis play?
I can't find a position for him.

Seems like out of sight out of mind with Sirro.

The injuries are a concern but if he stays injury free he'll be a star. He was starting to look really good in the 2nd row late last year.

Agree. Good time to sign Sironen ., without all the attention focused on him. The Teddy situation sucked…being off contract and on fire.

I don't think Sironen would have got a media release about him. Either Tedesco or a group.

Sirro is definitely worth a press release. Even if you don't rate him (which certainly appears to be your position) he's the son of one of the legend players from the history of our club. Great press!

No, he is a so called legend from Balmain.

Not yet sold on young Curtis. Seems to have potential, but so do a lot of other young players. We will see.

:brick: both Wests and Balmain players are legends from the history of Wests Tigers. If it was the son of Keith Holman, Tommy Raudonikis, Noel Kelly, John Dorahy, Schubert, Taylor, John Donnelly etc. that we were talking about then the sentence would have been exactly the same.
Also, even though my background is as a Balmain fan, I wouldn;t have been rude and disrespectful about any of the Magpies legends by saying 'so called'.

I know Manly rate Sironen very highly. I live near Brookie and I'm surrounded by Sea Eagle fanatics. They see him as a future rep player.

Your use of the word no is completely inappropriate and inaccurate. Balmain are a part of the history of our club. You may not like it, but it is an indisputable fact.

If any former Magpie legends' son had signed with the club we would be signing the grandson of a legend from the history of our club. I can't fathom how you can disagree with this.

If you don't see the Wests Tigers as the successor of the Balmain Tigers and the successor of the Wests Magpies then I can't fathom why you support the team.

Honestly, even though you might not like the merger, your statement doesn't even make sense.

I may be hounded for saying this, but the club really doesn't need divisive individuals like you following the club. We should be proud of Balmain's history, of the Magpies' history, and of the Wests Tigers history which is at 14 seasons and counting.
